Movies Where You 'Root For' the Bad Guy

Tom

An Old Friend
What are some of the movies where you find yourself rooting for the bad guy or the monster?
Why?

I always root for Godzilla!
I just love all the stomping action, fire and destruction.

During Jeepers Creepers 2, I was rooting for the creeper all the way.
I think it has to do with indestructibility?

Sometimes it seems like they have to dumb down a villain so the good guys can win.
Like Magneto in X-Men movies. So many times he could have 'owned' the others with his abilities but doesn't do what it takes, even tho he had the power to.

Favorite movie villans:

The Man In Black, The Princess Bride

"You seem like a decent fellow, I hate to kill you."

"You seem like a decent fellow, I hate to die."

Jeremy Irons in Die Hard W/ a Vengeance

(Eatting a hard boiled egg, and explains to Samuel L Jackson why the MP5 didn't fire) "You forgot to undo the safety catch." *Casually shoots SLJ in the leg*

Sir Toney in Hannible, the justaposisition between Ray Liota's despicable lawman vs Hopkins' charming killer really stole the show.

Rutger Hower's heartbreakingly self aware android in Blade Runner

Heath Ledger's deranged but straight forward agent of chaos that is the ying to the dark Knight's yang.

The Master from Doctor Who. His backstory in the 'new Who' series kind of makes you feel bad for him/her.

Not a SciFi but - Tony Montana - Al Pacino (Scarface) - Was pretty cool
I like alway's want to see Freddy Kruegar or Jason get more kills. They are such nice guys. LOL.

Something I've noticed that always gets me is that the villains (bad guys) are always really bad. Sometimes they look like good guys just so when they are bad they are that much worse. Betrayal usually works best for that.
Their betrayal establishes them as bad guys.

There are too few films where the bad guy wins in the end. Bad guys always losing, being defeated, stopped or punished is not how reality works. In reality bad guys do win, survive and conquer.

Bad guys always losing kills the film for me because I already know how it will end. That's the problem with watching as many movies as I do. No surprises anymore. All the formulas seem to be established and constantly repeated.

When I root for the bad guys, I am more hoping for something different than expressing my own hidden propensity for evil. When it happens, the surprise is delightful.

Great thread!
I root for-
Candyman- they had it coming
The Creeper- no rage or vengeance, it's just time to eat (scariest imo, can't reason with Creeper)
Freddy- teens are obnoxious, I was

I like Feast 1. The monsters really took a toll on the people and they may have escaped but at least the monsters survived to do two more films.

That's easy for me anyways, Star Wars, and Battle Star Galactica, why, the bad dudes are cool and their equipment rocks!
