Season 3 Are Vaughn and Syd really in love?

I thought that Vaughn and Syd were soul mates, but now I'm not so sure. First of all, Vaughn is getting married...in only two years! I think it's not time enough for real love. Maybe never is not time enough for real love. You're in love, desperately in love with someone and in only two years you move on all your life and you're in love with another. In my opinion that's not true love. And now, Syd have sex with Will. Oh my God. This couple (Vaughn and Syd) are broken, completely broken. She said that she still love Vaughn and two minutes later she was having sex with Will. Ok, J.J.Abrams doesn't know a thing about true love or I'm out of this world?

What? syd and will??? oh my god...!
I haven´t seen ep 9 - 10 yet... but i hope i do that soon!
But syd and will? he is back? this sounds weird to me..

Sex does not have to be within the context of "true love," whether you like that or not. She and Will had comfort sex, basically. She still loves Vaughn, but she can't have him at the moment, and she needed someone. I'm glad that someone was Will, whom she loves (in a different way) and trusts.

Are you serious? Did you see ep. 3.07 and 3.08? The airport scene? The kiss when she thought she was dreaming? His relentless concern for her this entire season. Risking his job and marriage to save her? One doesn't just do that for anyone! She admitted she was in love with Vaughn right before her and Will had sex!!!! It was comfort sex between two people who mean the world to each other. Love each other, not in love with each other kind of thing...

I will never give up on Syd and Vaughn... they are soulmates, they have been from the beginning!!!!

I think this Will thing is the writers way of putting the Sydney and Vaughn thing to rest for a while so they can concentrate on the rest of the show. A way of sort of moving on if you will.

I totally agree with you babe! Syd and Vaughn forever!!!

Love ya,

I don't understand why people freak out about Vaughn moving on.

HE THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD. WHICH MEANS GONE FOREVER.

He needed to move on. I don't blame him one bit and I think Sydney was in the wrong for being angry with him. Hurt, abandoned, yes. But he did what any of us would do.

True love is not seeing someone for over two years, and while you're married to someone else, STILL thinking of that person and wanting to be with them. Which he does.

Just because you're in love with someone doesn't mean that you don't have needs. Sex isn't just about love, little ones. And with the sucky situation of Vaughn being married, Sydney certainly isn't about to go to Vaughn to answer her physical needs--it wouldn't be right. But she still needs comfort. She still wants to be held and have the feeling of someone close by who cares about her. And with Will, she has someone who loves her--someone she can trust. Someone who will give her what she needs and not ask more of her in return than she can give.

Does being denied your true love mean that you have to turn yourself into an empty shell? That's what's happening to Sydney. She can't attempt to tear Vaughn from Lauren without destroying herself--all that she stands for. So she must learn to carry on with what she has.

I don't know if Vaughn is Sydney's soul mate or not, but I'd like to see him become "more worthy" before they get back together--but, hey, if Jack actually smiled at him he must see potential in him and that's good enough for me.
;)

Sorry, but I still think the same. I hoped that you could convince me that I was wrong but I still think I'm right. Ok, I said it before. Maybe I'm out of this world. But for me true love is something bigger. Vaughn thought that Sydney was dead and it nearly kill him, I know, I saw that episode. But there's something here. You move on only when you've got someone new in your life? Sorry, but I can face the worst circumstances and I don't need to be envolved with someone else. I think they were cowards. Vaughn can't be alone so he's married with someone he won't ever love so much than Sydney. And Sydney can't be alone so she had sex with her best friend to face the fact that her true love is married with another. I think life is simpler. Vaughn thought that Syd was dead, I know that means that she never be back again. I know what 'dead' means. But, two years? When did he meet her? When did he decide she was good for him? When did he think that she was the woman to spend the rest of his life with? And after all this questions I repeat: TWO YEARS?

Let me put this in perspective for you.

My friend Rosie was dating John from her freshman year of high school on. They were engaged to be married last year (after 8 years of dating). The engagement was called off due to some serious family issues. Rosie met Keith, instantly fell in love and now they are engaged.

Mourning periods/breakup recovery periods are different for each individual. Remember that.

Rosie does not deny that John and her were madly, madly, madly in love and were meant for eachother, but as she says, it just wasn't meant to work that way.

Also, a point to keep in mind is that Vaughn (correct me if I'm wrong) started drinking heavily, went into a serious depression, and quit the job he had for years because he was so devastated by her loss. It seems to me that Lauren most likely came along as his "savior." In situations like that, when someone "saves" you, you're more likely to delude yourself about past feelings in those type of situations. I know because I lived it myself.

I completly agree there is no way that they aren't in love they are and will always be in love even if he is married there is no doubt in my mind that he still loves her.

Personally I'm over Vaughn and I'd like to see Syd get over him too. He fell in love and married someone else, a choice he doesn't regret. Maybe they'll find their way back to each other but at this point I want to see Syd happy (i.e. her smile at the end of ep 10) so it's time for her to move on.

Vaughn went to a dark place, he was emotianally ripped up and Lauren helped him through that. Was that wrong? Should he have remained wallowing in his own sorrow until Syd rose from the dead? Think how stupid that would sound if we didn't know that Syd DID come back from the dead. He moved on, it didn't mean he didn't love her, or that he doesn't love her now. It means he didn't give up on life because his girlfriend has lost hers.

Syd and Will slept together. Big deal. They have a connection, they're friends, they comforted one another. They did it because they loved each other, not because they were IN love with each other. It doesn't mean she doesn't love Vaughn, it means she loves him so much she was hurting.

Ok, you know what? I needed all this, all your answers. I needed to believe that Vaughn and Syd are soulmates. I love them, when Vaughn looked Syd, the way it was, the way it is. But with all those circumstances, all that bad circumstances, I felt really sad. The first time I saw 'Almost Thirty Years' I cried, (I even wanted to dinner that night). I felt like Syd, I felt betrayed, brokenhearted. I hated Lauren, I hated Vaughn. And now, after this episode, after Syd and Will had sex, I was completely dissapointed. I lost faith in them (Vaughn and Syd). Thank to all of you now I have a little faith again. I need Vaughn and Syd together again, really, I need it. Well, anyway, thanks for your answers.

i agree :D

they are so in love.. whether or not he wants to admit it. he will always love her and i think he only married lauren so he could fill that blank in his life and maybe he loves lauren, but not as much as syd.

ems

what i think is vaughn was so depressed and he met lauren. someone who didnt know his past or hadnt known him, they became friends, lauren helped vaughn begin to get over syd i mean comeon she was dead, vaughn thought he had moved on and asked lauren out or something.. one thing led to another, and lauren proposed to vaughn.. they were happy but vaughn never completely loved her, and when syd came back he realized it was all a mistake

Wasn't Vaughn just doing what Jack said. "If you really love her...push her away..." am I rite about that b/c I missed 1/2 of that episode :brokenheart:
