Sci-Fi Doctor Who (2005-2021) [NuWho]

If you've watched the latest episode on BBC America, Let's Kill Hitler, then you'll know what I mean about it being an episode that you want to make sure you don't miss! That is especially true if you are a River Song fan.

For those that did watch it... is the Justice Department operating the Teselecta a new Whovian universe creation or have they appeared before? I don't recall any prior references to them.

The new trailer for Doctor Who series 7 is out. What do you think?

My favorite line is “Anachronistic electricity, keep-out signs, aggressive stares – has someone been peeking at my Christmas list?!”

Im debating on the whole Statue of Liberty school of thought which sees it as one huge Weeping Angel and therefore cannot get you because there is always someone watching it at all times....possible link to Amy's departure?

I definitley saw signs of a possible Egyptian theme what with that woman dressed as an ancient egyptian in the trailer. Weird symbols painted on the Doctor's face and what looks like a Dalek's eye piece poking out of the snow!

Cant wait!

With a history dating back nearly 50 years, not too many sci-fi fans who outright don't like it. Some of our UK friends see it more as a children's show (since that is how the BBC originally presented it) and so it might not be seen in the same light as other markets.

The Statue of Liberty isnt referenced in the actual clip but is a well known fact that Stephen Moffat announced that the Ponds will leave in episode 5 which will feature the Weeping Angels and seeing as theyve been shooting in New York, people have been putting two and two together.

Theres more about the new season here in this report otherwise, if you dont want to read spoilers, avoid like the plague!

Fears Doctor Who actor Matt Smith will be regenerated

BBC One for UK viewers

BBC America for US/Canadian viewers.

Australians shouldn't miss out, if you have access to the right service

More than eight million viewers expected to tune in for tonight's episode as, for the first time, it will be launched in three continents simultaneously.
The first episode, Asylum of the Daleks, airs tonight on BBC One and in the United States and Canada on BBC America.
For the first time, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation will premiere the episode using iview, an online resource, on Sunday morning local time, immediately after the UK premiere.

Just watched The Angels Take Manhattan which is the last episode with Amy Pond & Rory; not the way I think any fans would have liked for those characters to leave the series. :(

Not revealing much (yet) in case you haven't seen it, but will say that the last few episodes where we got to know Rory's Dad makes it even sadder.

Each Doctor has his own flavor and the series goes through many incarnations betwen a childrens show and an adult show. My personal favorites are burried in the jon pertwe and Tom Baker years. Decades ago. The new series I could take or leave.....

So what are the thoughts on the last episode of Doctor Who, "Hide"?

Personally I liked the episode since it was a return to some of the older style Who shows of there only being a few characters and locations. If you count just the humans then there were only five people in the entire episode. Combining a haunted story about a ghost, appearing over the the years on the grounds of an expansive English manor, with some sci-fi toys it was a good reminder that sometimes the best stories are the simple ones.

The characters of Professor Palmer and the empath Emma Grayling were so well played out that the episode could have served as a backdoor pilot for a show featuring the two of them investigating paranormal activities in the 70s'.

I did find one thing though that kept nagging me.

Upon arriving the Doctor already knew who the professor was, who the empath was, and it was stated that the year was 1974. No problems there and the year would go along with the style of clothing and the electronics used. What bugged me was the background of the professor.

In the conversations between the professor and the Doctor the background of professor was that he was a military leader during 'the War' and that he had lost too many good men who were following him. With it being 1974, and the age of the professor being perhaps his late 30's to mid-40's, I was trying to figure out if they meant the Vietnam war, the Korean war or something else. Then I remembered that the Doctor said the professor was a member of the "Baker Street Irregulars". First thought might be a reference to the Sherlock Holmes group of trusted associated but the name was also used during a British war for a group of special operations soldiers and operatives. That war? World War II and the group that the "Baker Street Irregulars" belonged to was disbanded in 1945.

Either the professor was doing a bit of time traveling himself or the timelines did not quite add up.
That aside we got also got a little bit more added to the season story arc of who or what exactly is Clara Oswin.

Hmm ... you pose a good question. I also had that prof pegged around the 30-45 mark. My own father was 51 in 1974 and he clocked up 5 years service in the Royal Navy '41-'46 (he volunteered at 18 to guarantee his choice of service before he was conscripted).

He was a young-looking man -- we're all young looking in my family. So I more or less happily accepted that the prof must be in his early fifties. I'm 60 in a few weeks and I'm glad to say I don't look it ... although I'm not so happy that I too often feel it. (Yep! I am that grumpy old fart!)

Stephen Dougray Scott is in real life 47 years old. Adding another 3-5 years on him as the character isn't 'that' far off. He's blessed with youthful looks I guess

I gave thought also to the professor being perhaps in his 50's also but then it introduces a wide age gap between him and Emma who could easily pass for late 20's to early 30's. Just saying....

On a different note, who else would like to see more of those characters? A 1970's based team of paranormal investigators, who happen to live in a manor with its own mysteries and have connections to the Doctor, is something I'd watch.
