Having done that, though, I hope they don't try to weasel back out of it.  I don't want Nadia's birth to turn out to be the result of a rape, or the like.

That would rather undermine what we know of Irina Derevko, wouldn't it? Can you picture her as a rape victim? Besides, her references to their "arrangement" didn't contain the venomous overtones that I would expect from such a bitter history.

Can I picture Irina as a rape victim? Certainly, for all her abilities she's still only human, and in fact, if she's telling the truth about being a prisoner at the KGB prison in Kashmir, there's a fair chance it happened to her there, and that was probably far from the worst thing that they did to her.

Do I think Sloane forced her? No. As you said, their dynamic is all wrong for that. She seems more contemptuous of him, than angry, and she seemed genuinely surprised and maybe even a little touched when he was prepared to drop the entire Rambaldi hunt for the sake of Emily (and by all evidence, he was sincere about that). After all, that 's more than she's been prepared to do for Jack and Sydney.

I said Jack and Irina cause they just fit. I don't know they just both have issues that only the two of them could understand and tolerate.

But that would ruin Vaughn's relationship with Sydney forever!

"Next on Jerry Springer: My ex-boyfriend is dating my mother!"

I hated it too, for various reasons.

Actually, I've always thought it was actually pretty likely that 'Laura' was unfaithful to Jack, probably with more than one man, if only in the 'line of duty'.  That wouldn't necessarily mean she didn't love Jack, or at least it isn't any more evidence than steailing from him, murdering his friends, etc was.  Just one more fun thought for Jack Bristow to chew on late at night in later years.

But there was a Greek tragedy element to Arvin Sloane, as Jack's best friend and a former good man turned evil.  Having it turn out that he was a rat even back then messes with that tragic element, IMO.  I would have preferred it had Arvin actually been a good, decent man in those days, leaving the question open of how he went from that to what he was as top rat in SD-6.

Having done that, though, I hope they don't try to weasel back out of it.  I don't want Nadia's birth to turn out to be the result of a rape, or the like.

J.Drake as in John Drake in Danger Man? I'm old enough to know that Patrick McGoohan played him prior to his more famous, The Prisoner aka No.6 :D

So why do you think Jack was so hesitant in making contact with the Russian contact? It turns out that Alexei knew about Irina. He said that her affection for Jack was problematic with her superiors. Interesting!

Alexei: 'She always spoke quite favorably of you. Her attachment made her work problematic at times.'

So the Russians think that Irina is still alive and Jack didn't tell about his involvement in killing her. Well, he wouldn't want to admit if it were true. And perhaps the Russians are correct.

*cough*

Ah yeah, good one. She's way out of his league, I think.

Anyway, while I think it was *possible* that Irina might have been raped in Kashmir (I'm sure she was all kinds of tortured), I can't even begin to digest the idea of her being raped by Arvin. She must have either been passed out, or chained by the arms and legs twice ;)

My convinction is that if she slept with him, she did it under orders. But for him to rape her? Just no.

Jack and Irina belong together. They still love each other. That's obvious. They both have a devotion to Sydney (and at times, questionable ethics). They are perfect for each other. And yes, I use present tense because Irina lives!! No way is she dead.

Yes, that's where my name comes from. I had wondered if anyone would recognize the reference, in terms of spies on TV. It's been a long time ago (before my own time, really, but there are always reruns). BTW, I'm one of the people who think that #6 was Drake.

Hmmm...Drake and Irina? He's in her league, no question, but I don't think he'd be as tolerant of her foibles as Jack. :D

What strikes me as interesting is that he was expecting to hear from Irina, and he apparently still works for the Russian government in some way. I'm beginning to wonder if Irina isn't still a Russian agent, too. Maybe the 'freelance' business was a cover, or a distraction, or maybe she just still works closely with them.
