Avoid A Void
Just thought i would add this poll and discussion. Out of the five series that have been on television over the past 40+ years; do you have a favorite and why is it your favorite.

I will not fault you for having more than one favorite as i do think this is the case with the majority of us and you may list them and the reasons that each is a favorite in its own respect.

I voted for TOS (The Original Series) but my second choice would have been for ENT (Enterprise). I grew up watching TOS on TV so it is the series that had the most impact on me and the choices I would later make in life.

BTW: You missed TAS (Star Trek: The Animated Series)! :P

From best to worst..............
---the Original Series
---Next Generation
---Enterprise
---Deep Space Nine
---Voyager

The original was the best of them(I remember seeing them late night in syndication....) but Next Generation & Enterprise were pretty good also. DS9 wasn't bad, but I honestly didn't care one whit for Voyager..........

Early days yet, but I think DS9 should come up top for its space opera qualities pretty much mirroring Babylon 5's success

Voyager.
It seemed to be the biggest thrill, since the crew was on their own, Starfleet couldn't help if they wanted , and let's not forget - the Captain and Chakotay.

I didn't vote, I couldn't decide on which I like better, STAR TREK or The NEXT GENERATION. Both series have great actors and well written stories. And I am taking into consideration that the other series do have some really good episodes and acting.

I'm patiently waiting for the next Star Trek film.

Best to worst...

TNG...Just enjoyed more episodes overall and Counsellor Troi!
TOS...
Voyager...Better chars than DS(, too moralising and goody goody.
DS9...Did not really like the chars, but it had the best potential plot lines that were ruined with mindless nonsense about ferengi and way too much moralising (even for Star Trek)
ENT... Utter trash. Poor characters, poor story lines, inconsistent with previous histories. Just garbage....

Best..

1. VOY ---> Janeway, exploration, they were completely isolated as they were the only Starship, The Borg!!!!

2. TNG ---> Patrick Stewart! rebelling of characters and rules, cast dynamic and tension with Romulans and Klingons.

3. ENT ---> Humour, can identify with characters, the cranial ridges of Klingons were explained, TRIP!!!

Worst...

4. TOS ---> No one wants to see Shatner running around topless and the acting was so wooden.

5. DS9 ---> It took over five seasons to get really gritty. Only good thing was 'Trials and Tribble-ations'

OK, first it isn't really fair to put TOS in the same category as the other series, as good as some of them may be none of them would have produced the legacy TOS has if they were the first 'Trek' on TV... that aside I voted for Deep Space 9, IMO by far the best of the children Treks... TNG was good as was Enterprise for its short run... Voyager was/is the biggest disappointment to the franchise IMO... Nelix was the Jar-Jar Binx of Star Trek before Jar Jar Binx was ever made.
DS9 dealt with REAL problems/issues not made up 'geothermal imbalances' or mutated water molecules that make people act drunk. Voyager just whored out the Borg, quite literally. Enterprise had promise but they clearly went to the 'dark side' (IMO taking the easy way out) by making it a war-time series against an enemy we'd never ever heard of... though I like their explanation for TOS Klingons vs. later Klingons... Speaking of which Klingons kick ass, and Worf kicks ass, that's why DS9 was so good... I still get shivers seeing that Klingon Fleet de-cloke around DS9- I'm serious my hair is standing on end just thinking about it again.. QAPLA'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DS9's biggest fault IMO was bringing in a new Dax in the last season... sure I realize actors leave in real life but with just 1 season left don't waste precious episode time developing new characters, I think we could have done without Esrie Dax altogether... Hell they spent time developing Vic Fontain and he was a Hologram.

4. TOS ---> No one wants to see Shatner running around topless and the acting was so wooden.
But wasn't the acting, especially the core crew, part of what helped it find a new audience in the 70's? Sure, it may be a punch line to imitate the way Shatner delivered his lines but that that fun is part of the appeal to it.

... DS9 dealt with REAL problems/issues not made up 'geothermal imbalances' or mutated water molecules that make people act drunk.
Well, real problems except for that whole "Sisko is a Prophet!" mumbo-jumo, and the good Doctor being genetically enhanced.

What? Worm hole aliens with no concept of time made him their chosen one and the ancient Bajorans knew this was going to happen... :D

Ya gotta give credit to the original series where it's due since it WAS a pioneer for everything science fiction. But respect aside, the quality just doesn't match up.

I voted Next Generation. It had a few quirks, but Picard's character just blows me away every time I see it. With actors of that calibur, you just can't take your eyes off the screen! (not that Shatner isn't great now, but back then? Eh...)

In order:

1) Original
2) Next Generation
3= DS9
3= Enterprise
5) Voyager

Couldn't decide which one I prefer over DS9 and Enterprise so had to put them joint third. The only series I didn't really get in to was Voyager, I just didn't particularly like any of the characters.

Original series beats Next Generation purely because it was the Original Series that really got me interested in to science fiction in the first place (along with the first Star Wars film).

Only one massive essay stands between me and my winter break. I think I will definitely have to investigate Voyager and all the other treks in this time. ha ha ha

I voted for voyager but found it hard too choose - guess I liked the 'lost in space' premise. I also like Enterprise to start with but then found the later plotlines a bit tedious.
You should do a poll for the best ST film.
