Runaway

DUDE :woot: First I'm waaaaaaaayyyyy to excited about that update... just because I saw there was an update... and now still no baby :( I seriously was about to pout

Ok but this time you saved yourself with Vaughn's last sentence

Jeebus... I think Syd's gonna crush his finger bones after that :P :angelic:

Please hurry with the next update....

“Now we call him,” Jack answered and grabbed his phone, dialing a number.
 Who is he calling??? Who's 'him'??? It better not be someone bad....

Michael took a deep breath and then said, “Marry me.”
What?!? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Sydney/Michael relatioinship.. but ... I don't see how this is going to help the situation right now. Are they going to pull a "Marshall wedding"?? Yeah.. getting married might help Sydney keep the baby.. but I really don't think Sydney's in the right mind to make that decision right now...

Great chapter. Thanks for the pm. I can't wait to see what happens next.

oh, i do love you now.

oh look, a Yaris. cool lookin car. *sorry, just had to comment on the cool banner down here*

she better say yes or i'll slap that little... *beep*.

Michael has come up with a plan and normally, it would work. But I don't trust Jack and Irina. They want to take that baby away from Sydney and I don't think Michael's plan will stop them. My hope is that Jack's contact has a change of heart and decides to help Sydney.

Thanks for the PM.

Chris

Chapter 40

Michael took a deep breath and then said, “Marry me.”

“Excuse me?” Sydney looked at him shocked, not sure if she had heard right.

“Marry me, Syd.” Michael repeated and took her hand, waiting for an answer.

“I didn’t have that much painkiller so I can’t be hallucinating.” Sydney muttered, pulling her hand away and looked at him like he was crazy.

“I’m serious, Sydney.” Michael said certainly.

“One question.” Sydney paused for a moment, before continuing, “Have you lost your mind? Did they give you my medication?”

She still couldn’t believe he just had asked her to marry him and she honestly wondered if he was feeling okay. How on earth had he come up with that idea? They hadn’t even started dating yet so what was he thinking? When she had agreed to try and have a relationship with him, she certainly hadn’t thought of marriage. At least not before the first date.

“Just think about it for a minute.” Michael asked. Sure, it was a probably insane idea but it could solve so many problems and she meant so much to him. It could go wrong, Michael was very aware of this, but for now it could help her and he was willing to try for her. And he loved her though he hadn’t told her yet.

“What’s there to think about?” Sydney looked at him irritated.

Outside the room, Irina and Jack were talking with the social worker Jack had called.

“What can you do?” Jack looked at him questioning.

“I’m not sure.” He replied, a bit nervous and intimidated by Jack’s appearance. “Taking away a child is not that easy and I know nothing about her situation.”

“She’s 18, ran away from home and is having a baby. What else is there to know?” Irina asked impatiently, wanting this to be taken care of soon so that they could fly back. With Sydney and the baby.

“Well, is there a father who looks after the child too, does she have an income and a place to live?” The social worker looked at them, waiting for answers.

“No, the father’s probably in Washington and doesn’t even know about the baby. She also doesn’t have an income, how should she with a baby and well, at the moment she has a place to stay.” Jack answered and explained a bit more about the living conditions, “So can you do something?”

“I think I can since there’s no father, no income and the living conditions aren’t the best either.” He told them and both looked very pleased by that, assuming to have reached their aim.

***

After Sydney had asked him that question, Michael had taken some minutes to think about it. How could he explain it to her?

“It could help you to keep the baby. If we’re married they definitely can’t take it away from you.” Michael answered, wanting to tell her so many more reasons but he wasn’t sure it was the right moment to admit his feelings for her.

“I… I really want to keep my baby… but you…” Sydney stuttered, not sure what to say, “You can’t marry me just that I can keep my child. That’s not fair to you and it’s not right.”

“It’s not the only reason I want to marry you.” Michael carefully said. Maybe now was the right moment after all.

“What else is there?” Sydney didn’t know what he was implying.

“I know we haven’t even dated yet but you mean so much to me.” Michael said. So okay, that was almost the truth but he didn’t want to scare her away.

“But marrying?” Sydney looked at him incredulously, “We hardly know each other.”

“I know. And I also know that it will be hard to make it work but I’m willing to try.” Michael answered and gently took her hand to squeeze it lightly.

“Why?” Sydney asked, her voice shaky.

It touched her that he would do something like that for her and the little voice in the back of her head told her to say yes, telling her that this was what she wanted. But she needed to understand it, needed to know his reasons first. She didn’t want him to marry her just because he wanted to help her. That would be wrong and she didn’t want him to ruin his life.

“Because…” Michael took a deep breath. It was now or never, he had to tell her. “Because I love you.”

“You… do?” Sydney looked at him stunned. If someone had asked her about his reasons, that would have been the last that she would have named.

“Yes,” Michael nodded and gave her a warm smile, “And I want to be together with you and I want to be there for you and the baby.”

Sydney closed her eyes for a moment, trying to process all of this. The situation was so messed up. Here she was having a baby from someone she wouldn’t care one bit. And then there was Michael, asking her to marry him and wanting to be a father for her child. He loved her. And that probably was the hardest part.

She never really had thought about her feelings for him, always pushing that question away as far as possible. Her situation was complicated enough and having feelings for someone who probably wouldn’t have the same, would have made it worse. After all she was having a baby from someone else. That wasn’t the best place to start a relationship.

Or so she had though. Now she was here and Michael had feelings for her. Did she have the same? To answer that question she didn’t have to think long. But was marrying now really the right decision?

“Do you really want this?” Sydney asked, still undecided of what to do. And it wasn’t as if this was an easy decision.

“Absolutely. And I believe we can make it work.” Michael said certainly, “And you wouldn’t have to be afraid of your parents anymore. They couldn’t do a thing then.”

“Yeah, but that’s not what I mean.” Sydney replied. It was important to her if he was sure about his feelings and his reasons for marrying her.

“I love you.” Michael repeated what he was feeling again. “And I want to marry you.”

Sydney looked at him for a few moments not saying a word, thinking this over and over again. What was she going to do now? Following her heart or reason?

“So, what do you say?” Michael looked her, waiting for an answer.
