Chapter 10
Sydney was asleep on the couch. Because of the girls’ irregular sleeping patterns, she was up most of the night. Vaughn walked over to her stroked her hair and covered her with a blanket. Weiss came up behind Vaughn,”In the kitchen. Now.”
Vaughn was surprised, but followed Weiss into the kitchen anyways. Weiss was clearly mad. “I want to know everything. Why did Sloane capture you? I waited until Sydney was asleep during the day, because I don’t want her to get hurt again. Where the hell were you? Why did you not stay with Sydney when you were on bail? Over the last nine months, she was so depressed, Nadia said that she cried herself to sleep almost ever night. These past nine months have been the hardest for Sydney. She was pregnant with twins and you refused to see her. When she found out she was pregnant, you weren’t there. When she saw her children’s hearts beating for the first time, she was alone. She went to almost all of her doctor appointments alone. And the ones that she was with someone? It was me and Nadia. You weren’t there when she had to go to the hospital. And you weren’t there every morning when she was crying, because she was so sick. I love Sydney, and I don’t want you to hurt her again.”
Vaughn listened to Weiss’s little speech. When he finished he said slowly, “I love Sydney,”
Weiss cut him off, “Then where the hell were you?” he yelled.
“Damn it,” he muttered, seeing Nadia walk in and Sydney lift her head up.
“Was that really necessary?” they said at the same time. “I’m sorry Sydney, we’ll shut up.”
Sydney was fully awake now. “No point, I’m up.” She got up, she was wearing an old tank top, and it stretched across her stomach which was nowhere near taut.
Nadia and Sydney walked out of the kitchen and into the bathroom. Weiss and Vaughn looked at each other, “What do you think is going on in there?”
Weiss asked, “Let’s go find out.”
They walked into the bathroom and found Sydney sitting on the floor and Nadia on the edge of the bathtub. Both women were laughing, “What are you talking about?” Nadia replied, “Our child’s grand parents, your parents are teachers, and mine are criminal masterminds. She will like my parents better.”
Weiss was surprised, “She?” Nadia looked at Sydney, “Well of course it is a girl,” Sydney said, “We are Derevko’s, Weiss.” Weiss didn’t understand. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“We have daughter’s Weiss; it has been like that for the longest time, no boys.” Weiss had really been hoping for a daughter, even though he didn’t believe just because they are Derevko’s, he was going to have a daughter. Sydney laughed, “We were also discussing names”
Weiss and Vaughn didn’t talk much the rest of the day and Sydney filled in Nadia on pregnancy. At eight Sydney was in bed. Everyone else followed suit in preparation of the long night of babies crying ahead. Fortunately, Brooke and Isabelle slept through the night, but at three in the morning, Weiss was woken up by a rhythmic pounding. He went into the living room and saw Sydney running on the treadmill. The doctor ordered her to be minimally active, so Weiss was concerned. He ran over to the treadmill and unplugged it.
“Sydney, you just had a baby, what are you thinking.”
“Two babies, I had two, which means I have to lose twice the weight I normally would. I have to go back to APO, and to it with this,” motioning to her stomach. Weiss sighed, “You have a four month maternity leave, Sydney, take it easy.”
Sydney was upset,” I don’t want to take it easy, Weiss. Sloane is out there. I have to get Sloane!” Weiss sighed, “Sydney, APO and the CIA are pouring all of there resources into finding Sloane. No matter how fast you run, it won’t matter. They are looking.” Sydney was in pain she clutched her stomach and fell into the couch. “
“Syd, are okay?” Weiss asked frantically. “I’m fine, I think I should stop.” Weiss rolled his eyes, “Ya think?”
Sydney glared at him then walked away. Weiss walked back into his room and fell asleep. An hour later, both Weiss’s and Vaughn’s cell phones rang. When they hung up, they were about to wake their wife/fiancée, they realized they weren’t there. They walked into the hall simultaneously and looked at each other,
“Did you get-“”Yeah,” They walked into the bathroom where Sydney was quietly talking to Nadia, “It’s okay, it’s almost over,”
Sydney was on the floor, and Nadia was bent over the toilet seat, clearly sick. Weiss rushed over, “Nadia, why didn’t you tell me? I could have done this!” Nadia shook her head, “You wouldn’t have understood, but Sydney does.”
Hearing this she stuck out her tongue at Weiss. Sydney and Weiss had been very sarcastic with each other recently. Vaughn was also concerned about Nadia, “Are you alright?” Nadia wiped her eyes and nodded.
“Why are you in here is something wrong?” Vaughn and Weiss started at the same time,
“No,” Vaughn continued, “We found Sloane, APO wants to send in a tactical team to get him. It is a very dangerous mission, so APO wants you two to stay here.” Both women opened their mouths to protest. Weiss knew that neither Sydney nor Nadia was capable of focusing on the mission. Sydney wanted revenge, and had twins a week ago. Nadia was sick and Sloane was her father. When he pointed this out, both went silent.
Later that day, Sydney was playing with Isabelle and Nadia was playing with Brooke. They were talking about Nadia’s pregnancy.
“Damn it Nadia, get an epidural.” The phone rang, and Nadia went over to answer it. As the person on the other end talked, Nadia grew pale. She hung up the phone and turned to Sydney,
“They got away,” Sydney muttered something unintelligible and stalked off towards the nursery.
“Sydney, I’m just as mad as you are.”
Nadia called after her but Sydney ignored it, she was beyond mad. The doorbell rang, which was a surprise, the doorbell almost never rang. Nadia went over to answer it, and when she did, there was Danny. He was holding a bouquet of roses,
Nadia just looked at him. “What,” she demanded, for she wasn’t in the best mood. He was startled; he wanted to apologize to Sydney.
“I think…I might have the wrong apartment,” he stuttered, Nadia had made him really nervous, she looked so intimidating. Sydney came into the hall,
“Oh, Nadia, this is Danny, Danny, this is my sister Nadia.” Danny stared at Sydney,
“We met.”
I just realized, the only characters in my fic that are on the show are Sydney and Sloane, sad.
