ABC to End 'Alias' Run in May 2006

as sad as i am to hear this, i knew that it was coming. i just really, really hope that it is the best series finale ever and they better tie up all loose ends. and they need to get MV, Irina, and Weiss back for the finale or i will be an extremely angry fan. i just hope that alias gets the end that it deserves

I concur with all that's already been said.

While I'm going to miss the show sincerely, I've known in my heart that there wasn't really any way it could make it past 5 seasons. After the letdown of season 4, I'm glad they've chosen to make the last season as good as the first. Hopefully they keep it up and end in a way as spectacular as it began... :'(

Im gutted its ending but its not really a surprise what with JG having a baby and everything. I want to thank Alias for the hours of entertainment its given me and the many more hours, in fact years that ive talked non stop about it. Im looking forward to the final episode though. It should be amazing.

S/V FOREVER.

RIP Alias

Knew this was coming, but its been an awesome five years and Im glad I became a fan of such an awesome show, Ive been with it from the beginning and will be there when it ends (-:

it's about time. the third season seemed to go downhill, i mean, come on, how could you top season 2? the first third of the fourth season was abysmal but i heard it got better. i didnt get into the fifth season cuz i stopped watching after several episodes of the fourth season.

JJ Abrams himself said he made a big mistake with Alias in revealing the secret too early. that's why Lost is so good, because he said he is not revealing the secret as quickly. Lost can easily do 8 seasons.

I am boycotting ABC after this! It is great how ABC went about this!
They officially released the news to Cast and Crew tuesday. Then the obscure papers got wind.Wed..the day before thanksgiving is known as "take out the trash day" within the industry...So Alias is trash to go out.
Yes it is figuritive, but the meaning holds just the same!

I am pissed....ABC has not been behind Alias since "Lost" and "Desperate Whores" became the only shows on ABC that matter to the swarmy fat bastards that run ABC.

I am pissed at the legions of fans that ditched when Michael Vartan left!
These two aspects contributed to the demise! And they are both directly responsible!

Yes,we all knew it was going to happen....but only when ABC put ALias in thursday nights in that timeslot which has been the suicide timeslot since the 80's.ABC knew what it was doing!
And When Micheal Vartan CHOSE to leave....that just pushed it further over the edge!
So yes,we were all resigned to the idea that this was inevitable!

But it is still a bitter pill to swallow!

I hope that those that intended for this to happen are happy now!

As much as I'd like to believe whole heartedly that MV's departure is the sole reason for the cancellation - it really isn't. Yes much of the internet fandom boycotted but honestly how many us have nielson boxes where we actually impact the ratings? It was many factors that contributed and not the least of which is JG's beach ball bump. If MV had left and JG wasn't pregnant the show would have taken a hit due to the loss of the SVR and The Vaughn, but it could have recovered, it was that good a show.

But mistakes ABC made along the way made recovery impossible:

1)Killing off Francie in season 2, Ditching Bradley Cooper..
2)Not paying Lena Olin whatever she wanted to remain with the show.
3)The constant season to season retooling of the show because ABC got greedy. Why couldn't they just be happy with what they had in season 2 and continue on from there ?
4)The convaluted conspiracy which often times made no sense.
5)Not forcing JJ to stay heavily involved in the show.
6)Lying to the fandom about MV's departure.
7)Introducing a whole bunch of new characters in season 5 when they should have just put the show on hiatus until JG was bumpless. Either that or focus on already established characters instead of introducing so many new one's. Why couldn't we just have Elodie and that's it ?

OMG OMG OMG-I have jst this minute found out about Alias ending and I can't believe it. in reply to all of you who saw it coming I can explain that I live in England and have only seen season 1-3 so far as have jst ordered Season 4 DVDs.My only consilation is that I will have to wait ages till the Season 5 dvds are out so the dream can be kept alive for a little longer.

Mixed feelings about this news.

So sad to hear that there will be no more Alias after May 06. I LOVE this show, and Jen Garner - she is my dream girl :D . The espionage stories were kinda fake (but what do I know how the real CIA missions are), but the stories are VERY entertaining, and I didn't miss a single episode.

But this is the RIGHT time for the show to go. End on a high note, go out with a bang. End the show while it is still in demand. I think 5 years is about the time frame for any show to reach its peak. Afterwards, "fan-fatigue" will set in. JJ Abram doing LOST and MI3, and Jen Garner being a new mom, I think they will be fatigue with Alias season 6/7 as well. "Alias" will not be their top priority anymore.

Since this is a "fantasy" show (and not about "real" CIA agents/missions). I do wish / HOPE for a happy ending. Vaugh come back and marry Sydney and raise the family together. Jack and Irina re-united. Nadia recovered, and have Rice come back to marry Nadia. Sloan find his peace in a remote place, he should not be in mainstream society for his past crimes.

Please, one amazing final mission. And then a happy ending.

I agree that this is probably the best time to end, since I think Alias is doing a fantastic job now, the kind of feeling I had in S2.

But it does make me incredibly sad (I had to play Fix You by Coldplay right after I read the news, it just felt right  ) All I can say is I better see the best series finale I've ever seen, because the cast and crew of Alias really deserve it. I wanna see Merrin Dungey (as the real Francie, maybe in a dream), Bradley Cooper, Lena Olin, Quentin Tarantino, Melissa George (yes, we have to see Lauren again, I'm saying it)....just all the people we've been missing in our hearts. That would be great to see all our faves back in the series finale, and if they can pull that off, they probably will. This show deserves the best send-off ABC can give it.

RIP Alias, you will go on in the spirit of your fans. Thanks for five incredibly mind-blowing years.

its been a great ride (y)

"Alias" is the show I have spend my time around ... and I am not sure what I will do without my weekly Alias-fix ... but guess I will survive, and the DVD's will make up for when I need those fixes ... :(

Thanks ABC for 5 great years, thanks JJ for creating the BEST show on TV ... ("Lost" is second Best) ... and thanks to Jen, Michael, Victor, Ron, Lena, David, Melissa, Merrin, Bradley, Carl, Mia, Greg, Balthazar, Rachel, Kevin and Elodie ... you have all been great ... (y) (y)

Well...It's been a great ride these past 5 years...and it's still not over! I will truly miss this show that captivated me from the beginning and has never let me down! Here's to the cast and crew who made Alias what it was...a truly wonderful hour of television with just the right amount of action and drama to satisfy anyone! I'm holding my breath to see how it all ends!

Alias is an great show and I'm really going to miss it. I hope the finale is awesome and blows us all away alias style. Thanks to everyone who made this show possible. RIP alias its been a great ride. :(

I feel extremely awkward posting this, but I'm actually happy that Alias is being cancelled.

:run: 🍅

I actually had an Alias marathon before I heard this news. I (with my friend that recently got into Alias) watched mostly season 1 and 2 episodes. Then, I popped in season four. My friend said, "Is this Alias?" Alias declined after season two's finale. It had potential, but unfortunately the writers couldn't embrace it. Now with season five, it's hard to watch. I still do, unlike some, but I mainly do so because I want to see what other crazy things will make the show even worse. So now, maybe the writers can finally write a good series finale and we can be at peace with a show that brought such joy to millions of lives. If the ABC people had renewed Alias for season six, I would have been sad; it would have showed the stupidity of American executives. Its cancellation is a good thing.

The only bad thing about it, however, is the effect it will have on AllAlias.com. I have a feeling it will slow down (it has a bit anyways lately) and I think maybe people will drift away. :( That's the truly sad thing about this event.

i can't believe that they are ending alias
its so sad...what im i going to do now?????
as long as vaughn comes back...its all good!!!!!
but i guess all good things must come to an end...i just want to live in denial for the next couple of months

Well I think we all new this was coming even though its very sad
Its just such a shame that no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't
seem to get things going again after season 3.
I think that gradually they started steering away from the original concept
of the show once SD-6 was gone and Syd no longer had to live a secret life.

Anyway, its been a great 5 seasons even with the ups and downs.
I just hope Alias goes out with a bang like it deserves.
It would be great for them to bring back some of the old characters like they
did at the end of last season..maybe Will, Irina, Weiss and of course Vaughn
As they say...all good things must come to an end...Thanks Alias for a great ride!!!!

It was so tragic the way I found out about this. I have Kakan on my MSN and her screen name was saying something about RIP to the best show ever. I guessed Alias, of course. Then I got here, and I was correct. I am rather sad about it, since this is the one show that I have probably obsessed the most about (although Lost is getting up there too) and I still love it. I'm just happy with Alias the way it is, even when almost the entire Alias community is pissed off. I loved Lauren, S3 and 4 were pretty good in my opinion, and S5 isn't that bad. Hopefully, for the finale, they bring back all of the great characters of Irina, Vaughn, Nadia, Weiss, Sark, Will, and maybe even Lauren (I'm not going to say it that loud 'cuz I don't want to be hurt ;)...I do want her back!).

Does anyoen else think Alias could have continued even if JG left? I was thinking about that last week and I really think there's really great potential to center it around the 2 new agents....I guess its too late now, though :(.

I'm still in shock. I really am. Alias deserves sooooooo much better then this. If it goes up against Survivor that’s going to happen with the ratings but come on. It needed to stay on after Lost!!!

There is no other show like Alias out there. I wanted a 6th and 7th season and a few movies.

To wrap everything up like that is almost impossible. There's just so much.

All I can say is if ABC doesn’t want the show then lead the way to cable (come on JJ fight for the show!)!!

All I know is I NEED a address a petition or something (Ok I need a save my show campaign). I need to let ABC know how I feel. ( I'm really ticked off) I wanted a Season 6 to have Michael, Nadia, Irina and everyone else back!!!!!

I just love Alias so much.
