What has been your worst ever trip to or experience at a cinema? And why?

Mine would have to be watching The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It was January and the heating had broken. Despite making numerous jokes about how ‘Narnia had spilled out into the cinema,’ it didn’t alter the fact that the audience had to wear scarves and gloves while we ate our popcorn.

Mine would have to be "Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets". I made the mistake of going to an early showing on a weekend. The cinema was packed, and there were people talking most of the way through as well as children screaming.

Was it that scary? Or were the kids just generally screaming at each other?

Went to watch an adult themed film at a multiplex. 10 screens. screens 9 and 10 were half sized theatres and I walked in through the wrong side apparently. Sat down, film 20mins late, a father and two young girls were the only other patrons sat about 6 rows in front of me. Thought it was unusual. Film started with a cartoon, led into Honey I Blew up the Kids, I sank down in my seat and sat the whole film out. On leaving the staff were smirking at me. Last laugh was on them! I thought the film was passable and turned out better than the film I original went to see (that I caught next visit)

Groke, I think the kids were just screaming, the film wasn't scary, but I suppose the spider could have scared younger children.

My wife and I along with a couple of friends were at a multiplex and we're just getting set to watch "Anger Management" with Adam Sandler. We were unaware of it at the time, but somebody in the audience mentioned, during the previews, that our area had been designated as being in a tornado watch. Upon hearing that tidbit, I got up from my chair and went to the lobby to look out the front windows. Yes, it indeed was dark outside, from when we first arrived at the theater, when it had just appeared overcast. I asked one of the ushers about it and they said the weather would be monitored and if it was upgraded to a tornado warning, then action would be taken to get movie patrons into the halls for safety and that kind of thing. Went back to my seat and figured there was no need to make a big deal about it unless conditions worsened, however, several idiots in the theater kept communicating on their cell phones during the movie (mostly texting, but the glow from the cell screens were kind of annoying) and talking amongst themselves. Don't you hate it when people do this at a movie? And then when you give them the stink eye.....they treat you like the bad guy! Anyway, don't remember much about the movie.

I'm glad our local theater management has adopted a no cell-phone policy...anyone caught using their phone at all (texting or calling) during the movie will be ejected from the theater, without a refund, and will be banned from returning...

As for myself, I've never really had too much of an issue at the movies themselves...only issue I had was at the concession stand of a theater here in town that no longer exists. Was off work on a holiday once, went to go see a movie that I can't even remember, and lots of other folks had the same plan. This place had probably 20-30 folks all entering the place when it opened, and they had ONE person manning the entire concession stand. Barely made it to my seat for the show, even though I'd arrived in plenty of time...very annoying.

(and one of the many reasons this place is no longer in business)

I haven't really had bad experiences at the cinema but if i was to choose one I think it would be when I went to see Lord of the Rings 3 where there was only one interval to go to the toilet. I had drunk a few beers before so halfway through the 1st half my bladder was full and as I didn't want to miss the film I had to hold it, uncomfortable.

Reply to Ashton West: And that is the way it should be! Cell phones should be banned from movie theaters! Good for your local theater. It should be common sense on the part of every person to enter the theater. Don't be rude and stupid by talking or texting on your cell phone when other people are attempting to enjoy the movie. But any more, people act like their cell phones are a matter of life and death, that is if the cell phone is set to vibrate and is not used for an extended period of time, say the length of a movie or the drive to work and back, that the world will cease to exist!! Cell phones: small blessing and an even bigger curse. Anyway, sorry I went off a personal rant.

Even with the policy, people all over the theater are using their phones up until the point the main feature starts (when the policy bans them)...I don't know how they can work their phones, since I'm spending that time shoving popcorn into my face and getting butter all over my fingers.

I went to see a matinee of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn recently and had to leave the theater perhaps a half hour in. Aside from myself, there was only one small group of people in the theater, among them was a fellow who clearly had some mental and/or physical issues and loudly groaned with every single exhalation. Clearly, it wasn't something that a simple "Shh..." could remedy and I felt badly for the folks that brought him. I'm sure they thought that a matinee would be the best way to minimize the effect he might have on other theater-goers. Luckily, the manager of theater had no problem letting me see the next showing at no charge and I had plenty of reading material with me at the time to while away the hour and a half wait.

i cant remembe the movie but i was sick and i had to pee all the time.
Went at half time to go pee and couldn't pee. was in amongst about 30 people queieng at the urinals. nice...

A friend and I went to see Pearl Harbour when it came out and one of us (can't remember who) had the brilliant idea of buying a mince pie each to eat during the movie. Both pies fell apart on us, as they often do, and I could feel hot mince oozing down my hand in the dark. It was a disgusting experience. The movie was felgercarb too.

I'd rather forget the many bad experiances with drunks, obnoxous people, wild children, a rude person next to me and almost getting into a fight a few times.

These sorts of things turned me away from movie theaters, and ruined my enjoyment. I'd rather watch a movie at home or at a family or friends house. Refreshments are next to nothing in cost when I buy them and the price of the movie is only two to three bucks. for a new release rental.

However it has been only recently in the last few years where I returned to the theater a watched a flick I really wanted to see on the big screen.
