Save Me from the Nothing I've Become

Poor Sydney. Her parents shouldn't neglect them like that. It's horrible!

Hopefully she will see Michael again and he can turn things around for her. Right now her life kind of sucks, and he can make it better! :D Right? Of course he can! :P

Thanks for the PM! I'm really excited about this story; I want to see where you go with it!

i do feel really sorry for syd! i mean its not her fault that she is that way, i mean she was brought up into that envioromentand as a result she doesnt no any better. i just hope that she is able to find herself and stop whats shes doing before its too late!
thanks for the PM
update soon :D

great update

I totally understans why Sydney acts this way, though she really should watch out that she doesn't get into that mess further, that could be dangerous
hopefully Vaughn can help her out, which i'm sure he will, right :P ?

thanks for the pm and update soon

You can't really blame Sydney for her behaviour, however she also knows it's wrong and she uses her parents as an excuse. She's a thirteen year old though, it's only normal given her background.
She needs Michael Vaughn. :P

Great chapter!

Okay... I was about to post on Saturday to tell you how much I liked this story, but...
AA IS EVIL. It kicked me off and wouldn't let me back on... *squints eyes angrily at it*
Soooo... anywho, I'm here now, saying that I really like this story and would like to see more...
Please PM me when you update next (which could be now, as I saw your name on the site thingy... :D )
Anyway, great idea... and I'll be waiting...

Okay, Vaughn's back in this chapter. Enjoy!

Chapter 3:

Mike’s POV
I can’t believe that girl would throw her life away like that. She’s so beautiful,” he thought, walking quickly through the cold night to get back home. He stopped in front of a pile of snow, reached down to grab some snow and formed a perfect snowball. Then he hurled it as hard as he could at a tree and yelled while doing it.
“I hate kids who mess themselves up!”
After demolishing the snowball, Mike continued home. He entered his house five minutes later with a bang.
“Mike? Is that you?”
“Yeah Mom.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Ugh. While I was walking home I came across some like, 13 year old girl who was smoking cigarettes and then this high school guy came up to her to tell her he got their pot. It makes me so mad, Mom. Why do these kids do this? She was so beautiful too. She had on really nice clothes so something tells me she doesn’t run with a bad crowd. But she is ruining her life!”
Amy Vaughn sighed and put her hand on Mike’s arm. “Did you tell her about the Y?”
“Yeah. And she practically laughed at me. ‘I don’t need HELP,’” he mocked in a high pitched voice.
“Well, she obviously goes to one of the schools here so check around for her and keep trying if you think it is worth it. Maybe your sister knows her or knows someone who knows her. Did you get her name?”
“No.”
“Know where she lives?”
“Probably around here. Or at least I am assuming.”
“Well, you can always try, honey.” Amy rubbed Mike’s arm.
“Yeah, whatever. I’m going to bed.” Mike stormed out of the kitchen. Amy sighed as she watched her son go. He was such an angel. Mike had taken it really hard when his cousin David died two years ago because he got high and crashed his car. That’s when Mike started to volunteer at programs like the Y. The bad thing was that he felt like it was his responsibility to save everyone and that was a tough burden for a 16 year old boy.

*************************************

The next day Amy Vaughn walked into her classroom at the private school on the border of Maryland and DC. She watched as the girls in her eighth grade homeroom all crowded around Sydney Bristow, the most popular girl in the grade, and probably the most beautiful.
“Syd, what are you doing on Saturday?” a girl named Cari asked me.
“I have to take my sister to get ice cream because she covered for me again. But I don’t know what’s going on at night. Why?”
“I can’t believe you trained your six year old sister to lie for you. That’s f*cking awesome,” another girl named Jill said, laughing.
“Jill Kline. Watch your language.”
“Sorry Mrs. Vaughn!” Jill said with a sweet smile. Then she turned back to me. “Well, my parents are going out for the night so I was thinking small get together, my place… the usual people and you know… the usual stuff.”
“Sweet. That sounds great. I’ll definitely be there. And no worries, I can get stuff from my house without anyone knowing.” I said, winking.
“I’ll make sure the guys are there.” A third girl named Lindsay chimed in. We continued to chatter about boys and Saturday plans until the bell rang. Most of the kids filtered out of the room to their first class but a few, including me, stayed because we were in Mrs. Vaughn’s English class first period. Mrs. Vaughn was having us read “Go Ask Alice,” some book written by a teenager who messed their life up with drugs. Ironic, right?
Here goes another fun-filled school day.” I thought. “Too bad I didn’t get the pot from Max last night so I could smoke up at lunch today.” With a sigh I pulled my notebook onto my desk and tried to focus on the lesson.

*************************************

Finally school was out and as everyone was heading off school property they were shouting reminders to each other about the weekend that was now officially starting.
“Seven, my house. See ya Syd!” Jill said as her older brother waited impatiently in his car for her.
“Get in sh*thead. I gotta drop you off so I can go to Mylie’s house.”
“You’re such an ass Tim. All you want to do is make out with MYYYYLLIIEEE.”
I couldn’t help but laugh as the Kline siblings drove away. I’m so glad my sister is seven years younger and thankfully not too annoying.
When I arrived home, mom was waiting for me. “Syd, your father has an office event tonight…”
“What a friggin surprise,” I interrupted. “Don’t even continue, Mom. I’ll watch Nadia. But I have plans tomorrow night okay?”
Irina looked annoyed at my sassy attitude at first but then said it was fine. “Nadia mentioned you were taking her out tomorrow for ice cream?”
“Yeah, I still am. In the afternoon. I have plans at seven. Just going to Jill’s with the girls.”
Irina nodded in approval. Then she leaned over and briefly kissed my head. “Thank you Sydney. Why don’t you order a pizza for dinner or something. Whatever you want.”
“Great. Whatever. I’m going to go do my homework now and get it over with.” Sydney said, trudging upstairs.
Before I started my homework I took out my cell phone and dialed a number.
“Max, hey. It’s Syd. Yeah, yeah, I’m sorry about the other night. Some stupid guy came up and started preaching to me about smoking. I have the money though. Can we meet later? I have to do it fast though. I’m on Nadia duty, AGAIN. Great, see ya later.”
Satisfied with my plan of action, I sat down and actually did my homework. Just because I am a “bad girl” doesn’t mean I want to flunk out of school.
“SYDDIEEEE,” Nadia called. “Can we order dinner yet?”
I looked at my clock and saw it was already 5:30. “Yeah. I’ll be down in a minute Naddy.”
I finished up my homework and went downstairs to pick out pizza toppings with Nadia. After I called in our order, I called Max and told him to wait by the door for the pizza guy. The plan was for Max to pay him and then ring my doorbell so I could open it and take the pizza, pay Max back for the pizza and also give him the money for the pot, which he will have slipped into the box. Perfect plan, right? And I wouldn’t have to leave Nadia alone.
Well, the plan went off without a hitch, and the next few hours passed peacefully since Nadia was being good. I promised her we’d leave to get ice cream around 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, right after lunch. All in all, the night wasn’t so bad.

Michael’s POV
“Yo, Vaughn. This pizza needs to get delivered to this address. It’s your run.”
“Got it, Joey. Be back soon.” Mike took the pizza and headed out to a pretty nice area of Northwest DC.
As he walked up to the address, he noticed the guy who was trying to give pot to the beautiful girl sitting on the steps leading to the front door.
“Is that the pizza for Bristow?” the kid asked.
“Uhh, yeah,” Mike said as he checked the receipt.
“Sweet. Here is the money.” The kid shoved some money toward Mike and tried to grab the pizza.
“Umm, do you live here?” Mike asked.
“No, but my, uh, girlfriend does and I was planning on surprising her by putting M&M’s on the pizza that say I love her. I’m the one who called in the order.”
Mike suppressed a laugh at how cheesy that was but mumbled whatever and handed over the pizza. At least he was given a decent tip.
Mike went back to Joey’s Pizza and continued his shift. Finally the night was over and he went home.
The next morning, well, late morning, Mike’s best friend Eric dropped by to see if Mike had any left over pizza from the night before, which of course he did. They raided the fridge and sat down to watch some sports.
“Mike, what’s with you, man? For the past few days you’ve been like, moping.”
“What? Oh, sorry. I’ve just been thinking about this girl I ran into the other night.”
“Duude. Is she hot?” Eric asked.
“No, not in that way. She was like, 13, and smoking and standing alone in the cold really late on a school night to get pot.”
Eric was silent. He knew how touchy Mike was about this subject. Finally he asked him if he mentioned the Y to her.
“Yeah, but she totally didn’t care, of course. I just don’t understand why she is like that.”
“I dunno man. Hey – wanna get some ice cream later?”
“Do you only think about food, Weiss?”
“And girls.” Eric said with a grin.

*************************************

A little while later, Mike and Eric walked into Cold Stone Creamery and rolled their eyes at the long line that was in front of them. They joined the back and stared at the board with all the flavor combinations you could mix. When Mike decided what he wanted, he just started watching all the people in line. Then he saw her. The 13 year old “bad girl.” She was at the front of the line, lifting a giggling little girl up so she could watch the ice cream and toppings get mixed together. Bad Girl, as he decided to call her since he didn’t know her name, was laughing too and hugging the smaller girl.
That can’t be her kid, right? She’s too young to have had a child that old…” Mike mused to himself. “Wait. What am I doing? Stop it. You don’t know if this girl is a slut. You know that she smokes pot. That doesn’t just make her a slut.
“Earth to Michael Vaughn,” Eric was saying as he punched Mike in the shoulder. “Dude, I’ve been saying your name for like two minutes.”
Mike jolted with surprise when he realized Eric was talking to him. “Oh, sorry.”
“What have you been staring at?” Eric turned to look in Mike’s direction.
“Ooohh” Eric said, seeing Bad Girl. “Damn, she’s hoooot.”
“Shhh. That’s the girl.”
“What girl?”
“The messed up girl…”
“Shut up man. Forreal? She looks really clean cut.”
“I know. That’s the sad part. Obviously she has a good home because she looks well taken care of but she’s throwing her life away on drugs.”
“Dude, you can’t save everyone. If she didn’t want your help, leave it be.”
Mike was silent. This girl seemed special to him. He didn’t want to leave it be.
Suddenly the little girl that Bad Girl was with turned and looked in his direction. She noticed both Eric and Mike staring in her direction. Mike saw her turn back to Bad Girl, tug on her sleeve and whisper something to her.
Bad Girl then looked in his direction as well. First a look of complete surprise came over her face as she recognized Mike but it was quickly replaced with one of annoyance and she turned back to the ice cream counter and quickly paid for her ice cream.
She took the little girl by the hand to lead her toward the tables. As she passed by Mike she paused briefly. “You stalking me now or something? Don’t try preaching to me again,” she said in a snobby tone and continued to pull the little girl toward the tables. The little girl looked back at Mike and smiled before sitting down to eat her ice cream.

*************************************

As I sat down with Nadia I couldn’t believe I saw that hot guy again. It really is a shame that he is all about being good because he is just so hot. I tried to stare at him without making it obvious.
Suddenly I realized Nadia was talking to me. “I’m sorry, what did you say?” I said to her.
Nadia sighed. “Syddie, I asked who that boy was that keeps staring at you.”
“No one important. Just some guy that is really annoying.”
“Why?”
“He just tried to tell me not to do something when he has no right telling me what to do.”
“Does he want you to stop smoking?”
I stared at my sister. “Excuse me?”
“I want you to stop smoking. My teacher says smoking is bad and can kill you. I don’t want you to die Syddie.” My sister looked at me with her big brown eyes and I immediately felt a little sad. I hated hurting her but smoking kept me sane. Maybe I should try cutting the cigarettes out for her though and just smoke pot with my friends.
I put a fake smile on my face. “I’m not going anywhere Nad. I’m here for you.”
Nadia smiled and turned around quickly. “He’s still staring at you.”
“Stop that. Don’t look at him.”
“He thinks you are pretty. He wants to marry you.”
“Nadia shut up. He doesn’t even know me and I am not going to marry him. Now eat your ice cream or we are going home.”
Nadia stuck her tongue out at me and giggled. I rolled my eyes. Sisters. But I casually glanced back to the line to see the hot guy.
