Season 5 Doubling...

Vent.... Rant.... Rave.... Whatever your poison.... I for one, was incredibly disappointed. I can't believe it's being revisited. I didn't see it coming -- but I guess in the Alias world I should have expected it....

What's everybody's opinions? (If I probably haven't guessed already...)

I could see it coming for a long time, but I was rather happy on how they did it. I just kept saying to myself "As long as they don't use Helix, I don't care how they do it!" I think it was necessary because of the prophecy and it makes sense, so I can't really complain if its going to clear Page 47 up.

doubling was kinda interesting the first time around and even semi creepy cool when francie was doubled
it was old at th eend of last season when irina was doubled
and now it's just plain LAME!!!
jeez - can't they come up with new storylines
and you know something entire f-ed up is going to happen wtih anna!syd - like her messing with vaughn (although i pray he'd be able to tell the difference) or her stealing isabelle (the most likely scenario as i view it) or real!syd getting killed and anna!syd surviving but they think shes the real deal

I understood that Anna was doubled as Syd... but... er... why ?

I agree. But maybe if they hadn't over-used Helix so much, it wouldn't seem like such an annoyance this time.

I personally would prefer any other way of doubling...but dunking Anna into a Sydney-DNA kool-aid bath? Come on! Its so unbelieveable I can't deal with it. But that's Alias....

As for plot predictions....I think they made a Sydney double to rob the baby, whom they think is part of the Rambaldi prophecy. Remember, (although it seems no one on the show does), the prophecy said that the person would have never seen the top of some mountain that Jack and Vaughn took Syd to to save her from government holding. Therefore, I think the woman in the painting could be Syd's baby-- as do Peyton and Phophet 5. However, what if the picture drawn depicts someone that looks like Sydney, but isnt....like Anna..........

A weird idea occured to me. What if it has always been Anna in the prophecy. Now she looks like Syd. So maybe the prophet 5 don't try to "cheat" the prophecy but actualy fulfill it? Like it was never about Syd, but about Anna? Personally think ti would be a great story.

So Helix is OK if they don't call it Helix? A rose by any other name . . . or, rather, BS by any other name would stink just as much. I figured that this was just the Helix process only they needed to figure out something to get around that pesky incompatibility business that kept them from doubling Sydney in the first place! (And wasn't the "incompatibility" thing just a story excuse as to why they had to double Francie instead of Sydney? Now they want Sydney to be doubled, so that little problem goes away.) I still don't like this for the very same reasons that I didn't like Helix . . .

How do they get around developmental differences? Twins don't have duplicate fingerprints.
How do they duplicate environmental factors like scars, grafts, implants, etc? Even radiation exposure?
What about mitochondrial DNA and non-nuclear (cytological) factors? Not everything is determined by your chromosomes.
How could they duplicate brainwaves & brain morphology to the cellular/molecular level without erasing your memory or changing your personality?

Yeah, yeah, I know we're in sci fi territory here, but I want something that I can sorta kinda buy just a little tiny bit. This is just "Swallow this crock for the sake of the story or forget it." Eh, can't you meet me halfway? This is just ridiculous.

ETA: and there's nothing weird about your weird idea, Spy Dude. They needed a way to resolve the whole prophecy thing, so hey-presto, doubling to the rescue. The sister thing really didn't work out, so maybe doubling is better. It seems to be the cure-all for any story problem, doesn't it? :lol:

I think you guys are kind of losing faith in the writers. I mean they're not going to double Sydney just for fun; they're not stupid. There is probably some bigger picture that we can't see. I think this was a lot better done then when Irina was doubled bceause that was just an excuse to bring her back (not that I'm complaining), but at least this time it's not just to bring a character back.

I also doubt that they will kill the real Sydney and keep the double, because the whole entire Alias community would go completely insane knowing that Sydney is dead, but everyone thinks she alive...I mean come on!

Have faith, people. Alias is going out with a bang, and I think they're just beginning to set up for it

This episode had Sydney suggest to her father that since Irina double-crossed Prophet-5 by stealing The Horizon, they must be regrouping to come up with a new plan.

So the idea of turning Anna into AnnaSyd must have been a recent plan, made in reaction to Irina's treachery. Perhaps P-5 knew that Sydney couldn't be the Chosen One, so they assumed that Isabelle was. So they wanted to ensure that she was born in good condition out on the freighter. I can't figure out how the Horizon and the Chosen One are supposed to interact. Make Isabelle accelerate into an adult?

So when Irina stole the Horizon, P-5 couldn't wait to use Isabelle in their plans. They came up with an idea of making their own Chosen One through Dr. Desantis doubling process. Anna being in a CIA secret prison made it convenient to offer her a deal to get out to fulfil the prophesy, and she would get punish Sydney in return.

I have been thinking that that is how we are going to see the series end ... you know ... having Sydspinosa kill Sydney ... and she takes her place and loving mother and CIA operative ... and no one really knows ... you know ...

and Carl, having Sydspinosa fulfill the propechy is not a bad idea ... but could she literally do it ... if Rambaldi knew what they could do to get access to Sydney ...

yeah those were my thoughts exactly! I don't think the writers would just revisit the clone story again, its been done like, 3 times already? i was pretty pissed off when i saw what they were doing, but as long as its not just anna!syd goes around fooling everyone and real!syd dies and blabla like evil!francie and fake irina, it should be a pretty good story.

Right, because they've never disappointed me before--oh, except for those two times. :lol: This was the only way they could think of to work out the prophecy problem. OK, maybe it will be more satisfying than the last time they doubled someone (how can it not!), but meanwhile I have to put up with yet ... another ... double! And, like I said, I hated the whole idea of it the first time around, and yet here we go again! Oh well, at least this should be the last time. I guess doubling is the Alias equivalent to the Star Trek time travel storyline (as in, "again?! ) . . .

Really, people are saying that? That's just silly. :lol: Aren't they still talking about an Alias movie? How would they do that without a Sydney Bristow?

I just assumed this doubling of Sydney was going to take place. I think it is going to be like the dream sequence in season four, where Sydney is fighing Lauren, but it turns out she ends up fighting herself? And this all took place in room 47...does anyone remember that?
