Seriously. . .I promise.

Sydney ran down the long darkened corridor, her heart pounding.
She could hear him behind her. . .
No way was she going to let him catch up with her. .
Just ten metres ahead would be Micheal. . .
The man she loved and nothing was going to stop her from being with him.
"Sydney!" Jack called out from behind her.
Almost against her will, Sydney paused.
Slowly she turned around and faced her father.
He was holding a gun gripped tightly in his palm and his eyes were full of pain.
"So is this what it has come to. . Huh dad?" she asked bitterly.
Jack's eyes narrowed.
"That is your own fault Sydney. . ." then his expression softened.
"Its not too late Sydney. . .Just come with me and i will help you. . .And this whole nightmare will be over. . " Jack pleaded with her.
Sydney shook her head stubbornly.
"No dad. . .You dont understand. I cant leave him. . .I love him. ." her voice broke and Jack drew in a sharp breath.
"You cant mean that Sydney." he said refusing to accept her answer.
Sydney shook her head again Sadly.
"This is it dad. I've made my decision. Im leaving." she began to walk away.
Jack, his fingers trembling, lifted up his tranq gun.
He couldnt let her go. . .

Six Months Earlier . . .

He was quiet natured.
That was the first thing Sydney noticed about him.
And of course he was very handsome.
She chided herself for thinking this.
It was simply too wrong.
Sydney leaned against the wall watching as Micheal Vaughn Stood chatting to a group of people.
Kathryn Turnwall flanked him on one side with Julian Sark on the other.
She knew Sark was trouble without even reading the reports on him.
His very cunning smile was enough to label him a criminal to Sydney.
Kathryn. . .Well she looked like she had seen so much of pain and misery in her life, that something had died in her.
And finally Micheal. . .
He never seem to show much emotion.
He just smiled politely as he thanked The owner of the extravagant fancy house who had hosted this elaborate banquet function bowing his head almost shyly.
Sydney touched her comm and spoke into it.
"So tell me again Kevin. Why are we doing this?" Sydney whispered to her CIA Handler.
Kevin sighed heavily.
"Personally Sydney. . I have no idea. . .Or rather i have no idea why someone as talented as you would be hired to do such a mundane task." he completed.
Sydney found his last words rather callous. . Almost creul.
But right now there was something else on her mind that she needed to ask. . .
"Is Mr Vaughn romantically linked with Kathryn Turnwall?" Sydney regretted asking this question immediately.
It was no secret that Kevin harboured feelings for her. . .
"No he's not. . .However i must say this man has not been romantically involved with a woman for the last four years." Kevin replied his tone almost chilly.
Sydney nodded as she quickly left the building and headed for the abandoned block of flats across the road.
"Four years?" she wondered out loud.
Life must be Really lonely for him.
She slowly mounted the steps and walked into a flat situated directly across from the place where she had been just minutes earlier.
She pulled out her snipers rifle and felt a sick knot of fear develop in her belly.
They were all ruthless killers. . Yet . . .
She slowly got onto her stomach and realised Kathrny and Micheal had already stepped out of the house where the party had been.
Taking a deep breath Sydney took aim.
She pulled the trigger. . .And missed terribly.
Sickened Sydney knew why she had missed.
She couldnt just kill any of them in cold blood.
Not even Sark.
Micheal however heard the bullet and he whipped around looking to see where it had come from.
Sydney held her breath as he glanced at the building where she was situated.
He paused. . .His green eyes staring intently at the window and Sydney felt her heart begin to pound.
There was no way he could know she was up here. . .
Yet. . .
Sydney reached down and began to pack away her rifle.
She touched her comm and spoke hurriedly into it.
"Mission failed. Permission to abort?" she hissed.
Kevin was silent for a moment then.
"Permission granted." he snapped sounding disappointed and Sydney rolled her eyes wondering if he was simply still ticked off from her obvious intrest in Micheal Vaughn.
She turned around to glance out the window one last time. . .
When the door behind her was kicked open.
With a small involuntary scream Sydney spun around. . .
To face a confused looking Micheal Vaughn.
"How. . .How did you guess i was here?" she gasped.
He smiled slowly.
"Telepathy. . ." he murmured his voice low and bearing a stong french accent that would make most woman. . Including Sydney, Swoon.
Did you just try to kill me?" Micheal asked in casually as he advanced on her.
"So what if i did?" she asked challengingly.
She noticed how he stared down. . .Refusing to make eye contact.
She wondered if somehow that made it easier to commit all those crimes.
He stepped forward and she immediately took the defense by bringing her foot up in a sharp kick.
He groaned and doubled over his eyes darting upwards to see what she was doing.
Meanwhile Sydney triumphantly had produced a set of nasty hand restraints. . .
When the door burst open for a second time.
Sydney froze as she heard the sound of two guns being cocked, and she slowly raised her arms.
Sark and Kathryn had arrived.
Sydney inwardly winced, expecting a bullet to any second pierce her when suddenly Micheal yelled out.
"Hold you Fire!!"
ever trigger happy Sark flexed his fingers on the trigger and Sydney stiffened.
"For Gods sake i SAID hold you god damn fire!" Micheal snapped irritably.
Sydney glanced at him, surprised and wondering why he was trying to save her?
"I want her alive. . .Take her back to the manor. . .And dont hurt her." he ordered Sark as he was still crouched in a fetal position from Sydney Rather well aimed kick.
Kathryn grabbed Sydney's arm, not unkindly and began to lead her out.
A whirl of questions spun in Sydney's mind.
Why had Micheal saved her?
And more importantly? What did he want her for?
