Constantine

Another comic to TV/movie adaption is in the works, this time DC Comics' Constantine.
Neil Marshall (The Descent) is set to direct NBC’s drama pilot Constantine, from Warner Bros TV. Based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond. The project was written by Daniel Cerone from a story by him and David S. Goyer. In TV, Marshall recently helmed the opening as well as the third episode of Michael Bay’s Starz pirate drama Black Sails and an episode from the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones.
The character started off in the mid-1980's in Swamp Thing and was later given his own title, Hellblazer, by Vertigo Comics, a specialty printing house of DC Comics.

In 2005 a Constantine movie adaption was released starring Keanu Reeves (Matrix) and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy).

OK, I'm still trying to get my hand around the "urban fantasy" sub-genre.

Hey, @Azhria Lilu, so would Constantine fall under that category? The movie with Reeves would seem to apply if I understand it right... set in a urban environment where supernatural forces take place all around but only seen/understood by some.

Yep, that's about the size of it. If it's present day (or a recognisable city-themed show) with paranormal aspects then it's Urban Fantasy. You also have the subgenres of steampunk and dystopia :D

Anyone actually seen this one?

Got through the season, a couple of decent episodes and a lot of not so good.

The show has been cancelled and no one has picked it up. Just when you thought horror was owning television there's still shows that don't work.

Well, this is a bit surprising. The character of Constantine as played in the NBC series will be making appearances on the Arrow series on CW by the same actor, Matt Ryan. :o_O:

It seems that after Constantine was cancelled the title actor from Arrow, Stephen Amell, offered to appear in episodes of the show if anybody were to pick it up for a second season. But a funny thing did happen... Warner Bros. produces both Arrow and Constantine and put the pieces in place to have Constantine appear in the Arrow universe starting with the upcoming fourth season's fifth episode titled "Haunted".

The description by The CW is that Constantine will assist when arrows & traditional weapons won't work, aka: the supernatural.

... and the first Arrow episode with Constantine will be airing next week, November 4th.
