Remember how SyFy tried doing a Battlestar Galactica prequel series named Caprica? Don't feel bad if you don't, the series didn't go over well with fans and it barely lasted a season.

Well, SyFy is doing the prequel series thing again; this time with Superman by doing a prequel series named Krypton.

Krypton is set about two generations before the destruction of the planet which ended up with Superman being sent to Earth. The focus of the show will be Superman's grandfather and the House of El. The House of El, once a prominent family on Krypton, fell out of grace and Superman's grandfather works on both restoring the family honor and saving his world. Unfortunately we all know how well that all worked out.

We'll be seeing some of the conflict between the El and Zod families as well as actress Georgina Campbell has been cast as Lyta Zod. Lyta Zod belongs to Krypton’s military caste system and is the daughter of a general, Alura Zod. Lyta Zod is a cadet and has also been having a clandestine, forbidden romance with Seg-El (not cast yet).

A pilot has been ordered and Damian Kindler brought on board as producer. Kindler's last project was Sleepy Hollow. He also created the series Sanctuary and worked on Stargate: Atlantis & Stargate: SG1. The show was pitched by David Goyer who will also be on board as a producer and writer. Goyer has been involved with recent DC works like the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

This show will fail if anyone exhibits Superman-like powers.
Superman's powers come from our Sun.

Might be interesting if they focus on Kryptonian advanced sciences?

What will likely happen is it will turn into more of the same. A sickening love-drama with the "effect of the week" added in.

You just know that at some point there'll be an episode or two dealing with a Kryptonian on Earth long before Superman arrived. It's almost a given. :banghead:

Now that I'd find interesting but because of budget concerns with special effects (heck the entire show is supposed to be taking place on a different planet) you know it'll end up being....

So... Superman's grandfather is out to save his world. Yeah, it's just a shame we already know how that turns out. :o_O:

Oh, FFS, time travel now to tie Krypton into current day Earth?!
io9: The series shows the planet of Krypton, which is a place most people haven’t seen. In the movies and other TV shows, all we ever get is a brief glimpse before it explodes. Here, we’re getting to see a living, breathing, operational Krypton. What are the challenges of bringing it to life?

Cameron Welsh: Part of the challenge is for people to accept the idea that it’s not a one-off. It’s not just a prequel. This isn’t just kind of like, treading water until the planet explodes. That’s what the time travel element gives us. Once we introduce that, we can lean into the idea that the timeline can change. History changes. So now, the stakes of the show have been packed, for present-day Earth as well as ancient Krypton. Hopefully, that addresses that challenge in terms of making the audience invest in what’s happening.

And...

io9: You guys are doing the Romeo and Juliet thing with the Zods and the Els. What are we going to learn about the Zods that we didn’t know before?
... I'm out. :flee:

Cool, since every thing has been over done on all of these super dudes, I would like to see a new series called "Clark Kent" the life and times of a news reporter. None of his powers used. Just him getting the scoops on daily news. Heck catching a burger and fries and a Pepsi on his lunch break, hold the onions, there are purty fillys in the office!:P

There are a few things frustrating to me about this show so far...
  • No matter how much they talk about trying to save Kandor from Brainiac I find it hard to believe that they would do anything on a SyFy show that would drastically alter the Superman verse history for the past 60 years. So that means that, no, they won't stop Brainiac from taking Kandor and they won't stop Krypton from cracking like an egg in 200 years.
  • They keep using the same scene sets over & over & over again. Yes, obviously most shows only have a limited number of scene sets that most of the action takes place in but on this show all of the sets, about four or five, are so sparsely decorated and dimly lit that any bit of color or brightness would be welcome. Instead of feeling like a vibrant city that is the supposed to the capital of the entire planet of Krypton it feels more like a show set in a prison environment.
  • Ah, good ol' time travel. First Adam Strange and now General Zod but, wait, this time Zod is supposed to be a good guy because he is there to try & stop Brainiac also. Now we all know General Zod is the big bad guy of present Superman so it's just a matter of time before his true self is revealed.

lol, Christopher Reeve was the best superman of all time, cant re-write a classic series with new ideas, it don't work. Its like putting a square peg in a round hole. doh!

Krypton is one of SyFy's better performing shows, ratings wise, and has been picked up for a second season.

Krypton is to me, more like an alternate universe version of Super dude, the one featured in the super man film from the 70's will always be my favorite. Same as the Abrams star trek, its more of a alternate universe version of the original, and deffo' the new lost n space, a total alternate universe version of the real deal. That's cool for the new generation, don't want to be like pops n' ma, lol!;):D:cool: But to me its like putting big wheels on a classic Jag or Ferrari, one shouldn't mess with the real thing. lol!
