An Old Friend
Behavior is defined as the manner in which people, animals and even plants act in various situations, as well as how they respond to different stimuli. Scientists and behaviorists are able to predict behavior through making observations, performing experiments and then drawing conclusions.

Chemistry is a branch of Physical Science concerned with how various materials combine to form new compounds, as well as the reactions involved in reducing compounds to their elements. It is how atoms interact to form molecules and how molecules interact with each other. It also looks into the composition of substances and their properties.

Effective Communication is important in interpersonal relations, business, and politics. In fact, it is important in every facet of life. Communication consists of receiving information from others, interpreting and processing that information, and then speaking, writing, or using some other method to express your thoughts and feelings.

Being Knowledgeable is the first step in becoming skilled and then confident. It means you are aware of your surroundings, you remember and understand things you learn and you know how to perform various related tasks. But achieving that goal can be a challenge due to outside forces and your own destructive attitude.
You benefit from gaining knowledge and applying that knowledge as a skill. You become confident or sure of yourself when confronted with problems. Being treated by others as a knowledgeable or skilled person is a great reward and motivator. The thirst for knowledge is a driving force among all great men and women.

Mental Health includes emotional and psychological health. Ailments are often caused by toxic or destructive mental input from others, from your environment, or from yourself. Staying mentally and emotionally healthy means that you are protecting yourself from these causes of psychological disease.

Good Nutrition is important to all of us.
Do you want the best that life has to offer? …the best body and mind possible, enough energy to work hard at the things that are most important to you, the ability to grow old gracefully and avoid chronic, degenerative disease… This is success — being the best that you can possibly be.
The underpinning of success is our health — a healthy body and a healthy mind. Isn’t it easier to concentrate on things you’re pursuing when your body is at optimal level and you’re not stalled by dealing with physical ailments? Isn’t a sound body, energized to do your life work, more powerful than one that is droopy, tired and lackluster, perhaps suffering with some type of disease?
Success in life is caused by many factors and our health is one of them. Nutrition is a large contributor to health and fortunately, it is one thing that we have some control over. Nature designed us to be disease-resistant. Food provides the fuel that makes up our cells, organs, and brains. Let’s work in concert with nature by achieving the best nutritional status we can.

Physics is a branch of Physical Science that is concerned with the study of the properties of matter, its motion, and the concepts of energy and force. The subject can be divided into three main areas: Classical Physics, Relativity, and Quantum Mechanics.

Religion - Most people believe that humans possess a spirit or soul and that there exists a God or Supreme Force. Many believe there are moral rules that people should follow in their lives and that there is some sort of life after death. Some believe their religion can affect their fate and can assist in physical and mental healing. They practice their beliefs through their various religions.
Clarifying your views and religious beliefs can give you greater peace of mind and focus on your direction in life. One way to do this is to look at some fundamental religious questions and to compare possible answers with your own beliefs. It is also useful to see what other religions have to say on various issues.

Your Senses are the important gateway for receiving information about the world around you and what is being communicated to you. By processing the information you receive through your senses, you gain knowledge, allowing you to respond by talking, writing or using some other means of communication.

Being Valuable or important to others means that you provide others with what they want or need. It results in gaining rewards, becoming desired or in demand, and being highly regarded and confident. But achieving that goal can be a challenge due to outside forces and your own destructive attitudes.
Offering something of value or interest is essential in having good relationships, social interactions and business dealings. It also enhances your personal motivation. You benefit by gaining the rewards you seek, being regarded and feeling good about yourself.

Having Vitality means that you are in good physical and mental condition, which results in having the energy, strength and stamina needed to take on various tasks and activities, as well as to handle problems.
Many people want to have vitality and vigor, but achieving that goal can be a challenge due to outside forces and their own destructive attitudes. For one thing, being in condition not only requires being in good physical, mental and emotional health, but it also means to move your body and mind to a state of excellence, as opposed to the average. Having vitality allows you to perform at your best. But also in interpersonal activities, your vitality is important to the other person. Your vitality makes you essential to their goals.

So... what is it that you would like to discuss?

We communicate with different senses all at the same time in person.
When we talk we are communicating with sound.
When we posture we are communicating with sight.
We also communicate by touch and smell.
All related to the moment of situational awareness.

When we communicate and all of our senses are in alignment it is easier for others to understand us.
However, this depends on two factors at play.
1. We can effectively communicate using all our abilities in conjunction
2. The person we are communicating with are perceptive to those displays.

Conflicting displays garner conflicting perception.

You say one thing but your body language says something different.
Your body language says one thing but your pheromones say something different.

Their perception is determined by the display to which they are tuned.
If you say one thing and display body language which they don't understand, they will understand only what you say.

Saying "I Love You" while slapping their face is an extreme example of conflicting display.

Since we all live individual lives with individual notions of communication, not everyone will understand you as well as you understand yourself. They can 'learn' to understand you but since you don't determine their level of understanding you can never be sure.

The only person you can hope to ever fully understand is yourself.
Thus, any conflict in communication rests with your inability to display the required actions so the other can understand you.
If you are aware of this, you can arrest confusion by merely stating
"I don't think you understand what I am trying to say, let me rephrase it for you"
One way to establish effective communication with another is to actually ask "Do you know what I mean" or Do you understand" during the communication. Know what I mean?

I've stood quietly in a group of 3, while one talked on & on, and the third showed the obvious and correct signs of "I don't want to listen to you any longer". Eyes averted, shoulders slowly turned to face a different direction, fingers tapping. I read it.
But the talker couldn't or wouldn't.

I think, a lot of times, people don't say what they mean or say nothing hoping someone else garners the same from some sort of empathy.
Personally, in that situation I would just say, "Okay, got it, stop talking for a while okay?" and end the issue right there.
Implied only works if someone else is tuned to the same implication.

Spotlight hogging is an indication that there are issues with that person's self-esteem.
You can tell if it is merely self-esteem or not by walking away.
If they follow you and continue talking it is an indication of a self-esteem issue.
If they get irate, it could indicate narcissism.
At any rate, you are dealing with a broken human and you can either pity and console or isolate and ignore.
Unless you are a psychologist, then you just hand them your card and tell them to come see you.

Now, on the other side of the coin, there is something to be said about the person that stays in a situation like that and endures it. That also points to self-esteem and confidence issues. Many time they will justify it by saying they were being courteous or respectful but that is a self actualizing delusion. For whatever reason you tolerate discomfort, doing so is an indication of self-dishonesty and delusion.

Its amazing how many people don't say what they mean and mean what they say.
Or they say nothing and tolerate discomfort by remaining.
Flat out, if I don't want to hear you I will say "Be Quiet Now" or, just walk away.

But the talker couldn't or wouldn't.
That is called the walking and chewing bubblegum condition.

When a person is talking and relating something to others they are concentrating on what they are saying and what they will say next.
When we access our brains for information or inspiration our eyes move up and to the side depending upon whether we are accessing fact or imagination.
Most people in a tirade are not looking at body language.
They look to the eyes to see if their audience is comprehending what they are saying.
The attention hog is even further self absorbed, probably never even noticing who is there let alone specific body language.
"Where's Bob? When did Bob leave?"

#3 for me, in your other thread Tom was "blunt"
I have zero problem telling people "you're monopolizing the conversation" or "wrap it up" while looking at my watch.
But long ago, a friend & I once thought that "body language" classes should be taught in school. Maybe we should all have an emoji-necklace? Or bracelet? (y)

My next question for Tom-
Is the tribalism in our current political atmosphere ever going to disappear? If I'm blindly dedicated to one political group-think, do the benefits outweigh the damage? Is it all about winning at any cost ?

LOL, you know they used to sell "Mood Rings".
The issue with comprehension is an old issue and you would think, people would by now, have figured it out.
Thing is body language is as specific as cultural differences and accents.
Not all displays indicate the same language.

My next question for Tom-
Is the tribalism in our current political atmosphere ever going to disappear? If I'm blindly dedicated to one political group-think, do the benefits outweigh the damage? Is it all about winning at any cost ?
Think about what a society is.
A society is a group of two or more people with agreement. Many societies have societies within societies within societies. A family is a society, parents are a society, siblings are a society.
Tribalism is common ideals of a specific society.
Being blindly dedicated to anything risks delusion at some point.
Truth can be a delusion. Truth can be fact based on limited points of reality.
Reality will always be reality whether anyone believes it or not.
Winning is subject to the terms of the game. If the game is a delusion, winning is as well.

In reality you exist as the one looking out thru your eyes.
Everything is as you experience it, that is your very own reality of life.
Politics is the delusion that a few other people control many other people by manipulating other people to do as they say. They create conditions you are expected to follow as part of a society. They enforce those conditions upon you by creating laws and employing a regulatory force to police those laws.
What is most important to understand is that you, in the reality of the life that you experience first hand, are expected to comply with it all based on the delusion of belief that non-compliance will cause adverse conditions for you.

If delusion of belief is ended, government has no power.
Their power is given to them by you by your own choice.

Okay Tom, about effective communication, I tend to suck at. I'm sure I am not the only one. Seems the trouble/problem is with writing & replying to posts. Being it a right or wrong answer, feeling being judged. Having written a post or several posts and then swiftly deleting or after awhile re reading them & deleting them. Having someone either read and try and reply to what is no longer there. Finding myself having to apologize for it.Then the chat rooms rarely go in & then for only like seconds or a minute. 1 on 1 conversations be it face to face or by phone, trying either to start conversation and or keep it going. Doubting this post right now.

~Confidence~
The thing you might remember is that there is only ONE you.
Any opinion you might have on any given subject is neither right or wrong, it is an opinion of one of the billions of unique humans on this planet.

People that put other people down are shallow and personality/identity limited.
See, nobody is better or worse that you are.
We all bleed, age and die.

You have seen things that I couldn't possibly imagine and vice versa.

Seems to me that others have convinced you that you are somehow not worthy.
Its a self-esteem thing that can be fixed.

Ask yourself, “What is it that I value?” Another way to phrase this may be, “What qualities do I admire in others.” Even if we may envy someone’s swanky pad or trim thighs, chances are, what we respect about them has a lot more to do with how they conduct themselves, what’s important to them, and how we feel when we are with them. Is this person charitable? Kind? Loving? Helpful? These qualities are likely the ones we, too, possess, or would like to further develop in ourselves.

2. Once you have answered the above, ask yourself, “What do I need to do to live in accordance with what I value?” For example, if you value charity, find ways in which you can be charitable. This could be through formal volunteer work or by helping out a friend or loved one. There is a good reason that people all over the world know who Mother Teresa was, and why no one ever mentions her thighs or hairdo. Her charity and service to others were legendary.

3. Practice (self) forgiveness. Often it feels safer to consciously focus on something external or material that seems “not good enough,” and not on the things we wish we’d done differently. I emphasize to patients that making mistakes is a normal part of learning. No one walks right out of the womb – we first learn to sit up, and crawl, and toddle - falling innumerable times – before we can walk, and run, and play! Acknowledge what you’d like to do differently now – the only time period in which we can act to make things better.

4. Set goals that are discreet, measurable, and in accordance with what you value. Leave room for goals that are fun when possible. Realizing you can accomplish the things you set out to do – even mundane things – is part of how we build self-esteem.

5. Ask yourself each day, “For what am I grateful?” Everyone – and I do mean everyone -- if they are willing -- can find at least one small thing each day for which they can be thankful. Even when things seem bad, we can be grateful for someone’s kindness, for some part of our body that works (even if we are ill), for the sun shining, for the lessons we can learn even from the difficult people in our lives, etc.

6. Visualize yourself shedding the harsh, outdated ideas about yourself that you (really!) no longer need. They actually don’t do any good. See yourself feeling as you’d like to feel, doing the things that are most meaningful to you. Imagery and self-hypnosis can be very powerful tools to this end. My self-hypnosis programs, “Healthy Self-Esteem” and “Self-Esteem During Sleep” can help change the negative “trance” of feeling “not good enough” and help you move forward, creating more of the life you really want.

7. If you find yourself needing additional help with the above, it’s worth consulting with a mental health professional.

Doing the above can help us to put things in perspective, create evidence of success, and notice some of the positive things we may have overlooked in our lives.

Be well!

I'm working on a strange observation/question for Tom, I should perhaps be hesitant, but nope...full steam ahead.
It's a strange one, and may be dull to some.
Don't care, it interests me. I'm off to work, back here later!

LOL, When I started this topic I figured we could discuss different things not just ask me questions?
Don't get me wrong, I have my own opinions on nearly anything and don't mind giving them.
Thing is, any opinion I might write is how I see things and may or may not apply to your lives.

See, silly ole me thought this might lead to properties of tortional forces on space launches, all the cool dinosaurs or sub-atomic particles. Hahaha, silly me...

Well I don't know about space launches, & sub- atomic particles. Cool dinosaurs for sure. But I did see on the Discovery channel? History Channel? About alien DNA and how we supposedly came from or were created by them? Now I did kind of roll my eyes and glaze over, partly because some of it went over my head & I am a Catholic so.... I believe God created man & woman. I do believe that we are not alone in the universe and that there are higher forms of life. But this theory and story I can't buy & it doesn't fly with me.

I don't put much into any TV documentary. They are all geared to sensationalize to gather viewers.
I have read into evolution a bit and while humans and dinos share common ancestors we are from different branches of taxonomy.

Archosauria (in some systems, Reptilia)

The first mammals evolved from a population of vertebrates called therapsids ("mammal-like reptiles") at the end of the Triassic period and coexisted with dinosaurs throughout the Mesozoic Era.
The Permian-Triassic extinction killed off almost everything, and mammal-like animals practically vanished. Therapsids came from synapsids, which first appeared during the late Carboniferous. Diapsids, from which archosaurs and then dinosaurs/birds evolved, also appeared in the late carboniferous.

Which came first, The Chicken or the Egg?
The Egg came first.
The chicken is a mutation of its predecessor.

Science
Science is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. A systematically organized body of knowledge on a particular subject.

Science Theory
A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world.

Speculation
Speculation is the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence.

Reality
Reality is the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. The state or quality of having existence or substance.

Delusion
Delusion is an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument.

In the most basic sense, a Scientific Fact is an objective and verifiable observation, in contrast with a hypothesis or theory, which is intended to explain or interpret facts.

Scientific Evidence is evidence which serves to either support or counter a scientific theory or hypothesis. Such evidence is expected to be empirical evidence and interpretation in accordance with scientific method.

Scientific Method is a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry is commonly based on empirical or measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning.

Scientific Inquiry refers to the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on the evidence derived from their work.

Scientific Application refers to the act of putting something to a special use or purpose: an application of a new method; A specific use to which something is put.

Scientific Model is a systematic description of an object or phenomenon that shares important characteristics with the object or phenomenon.

Effectuation is a way of thinking that serves entrepreneurs in the processes of opportunity identification and new venture creation. Effectuation includes a set of decision-making principles expert entrepreneurs are observed to employ in situations of uncertainty. Situations of uncertainty are situations in which the future is unpredictable, goals are not clearly known and there is no independent environment that serves as the ultimate selection mechanism.

Anticipation is an emotion involving pleasure, excitement, or anxiety in considering an expected event.

Rejection in psychology is an interpersonal situation that occurs when a person or group of people exclude an individual from a social relationship.

Self-esteem reflects a person's overall subjective emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs about oneself, as well as emotional states, such as triumph, despair, pride, and shame.

Acceptance in human psychology is a person's assent to the reality of a situation, recognizing a process or condition (often a negative or uncomfortable situation) without attempting to change it or protest it.

Acquiescence occurs when a person knowingly stands by without raising any objection to the infringement of his or her rights, while someone else unknowingly and without malice aforethought acts in a manner inconsistent with their rights.

Opinion is a judgment, viewpoint, or statement that is not conclusive. It may deal with subjective matters in which there is no conclusive finding, or it may deal with facts which are sought to be disputed by the logical fallacy that one is entitled to their opinions. What distinguishes fact from opinion is that facts are more likely to be verifiable.

Id, ego, and super-ego are the three parts of the psychic apparatus defined in Sigmund Freud's structural model of the psyche.
Psyche is the totality of the human mind, conscious and unconscious. Psychology is the scientific or objective study of the psyche. The word has a long history of use in psychology and philosophy, dating back to ancient times, and represents one of the fundamental concepts for understanding human nature from a scientific point of view.

Communication is the act of conveying intended meanings from one entity or group to another through the use of mutually understood signs and semiotic rules.

The 10 Commandments of Effective Communication

I. Thou shalt listen first.
To communicate in a way that others understand, you have to learn what's on their minds, first. That's why listening is so important.
Active listening involves asking questions, along with concentrated effort to understand your partner's answers--all while resisting the urge to judge. When you regularly and skillfully listen to others, you stay in touch with their reality. You become quickly aware of the other person's highs and lows, and how they are dealing with them. Further, you send the message that what's important to them is important to you. Your opinion then carries more weight, because it's based on reality--your partner's reality.

II. Thou shalt show empathy.
When others tell you their story, endeavor to understand their thought process and see the world from their perspective. (This is called cognitive empathy.)

III. Thou shalt focus on the positive.
Dwelling on the negative in others is a surefire way to breed contempt and close someone's ears to your own message. Therefore, focus on the positive in others by;Telling them what you appreciate about them,Finding common ground, even if you disagree
Laying this foundation first makes your partners more willing to hear dissenting or (constructively) critical opinions later.

IV. Thou shalt be sincere.
When praising, don't flatter or praise superficial qualities. Be genuine regarding what you appreciate about others. When sharing negative feedback, don't beat around the bush or water it down. Rather, communicate out of a desire to help--and that motive will become obvious to your partner.
In addition, be willing to sincerely apologize. As the saying goes:
Apologizing doesn't always mean you're wrong and the other person is right. It just means that you value your relationship more than your ego.

V. Thou shalt be specific.
People aren't mind-readers. Therefore, don't just tell others you appreciate them or that something bothers you; tell them specifically what you appreciate, or what needs to change--and why. (Of course, if it's negative, communicating with tact and grace will make your message easier to accept.)

VI. Thou shalt be respectful.
You earn respect when you show it to others, first.
Acknowledge others when you see them by giving a smile and nod of the head, or a simple hello. When speaking, avoid sarcasm and cutting remarks, which beg for negative emotional reactions. Instead, speak to others the way you want them to speak to you.

VII. Thou shalt pause.
"The pause" is as simple as taking a moment to stop and think before you speak, especially if you're in a highly emotional state. It may sound simple, but while easy in theory, it's highly difficult to practice consistently. But if you learn from mistakes and continue to improve, the pause will help you avoid embarrassment, prevent regrets, and save countless relationships.

VIII. Thou shalt be transparent.
There's nothing worse than the feeling that someone is keeping a secret from you.
Transparency doesn't mean sharing everything about yourself, to everyone, all of the time.
But it does mean saying what you mean, meaning what you say, and sticking to your values and principles above all else.

IX. Thou shalt know when to yield.
Resist the urge to attack every opinion or statement you don't agree with.
Remember that people are emotionally attached to their beliefs. If you mercilessly expose every flaw in your partner's reasoning, even if you're right, he will feel attacked and close his mind to whatever you have to say. This doesn't mean agreeing with views you're opposed to. Rather, it's about learning to choose which battles are worth fighting.

X. Thou shalt be consistent.
To be effective, communication must continue to flow. Make time for your partners by communicating in various forms, such as in person, telephone, or through written messages (electronic and traditional).
Everyone's busy, so make sure you schedule time to simply talk and catch up with others. The more important the relationship, the more often you should be having those one-on-one conversations.

We live in a complex world of people that are all unique personally but being social animals we adopt social concepts as we are exposed to them. Not all those social concepts are positive.
If you are surrounded by negativity, you tend to adopt a sense of negativity.
NEWS has the most attention when it is negative. Media has the most attention when it is extreme.
People are bombarded with negativity. I noticed a marked move to a positive outlook on life by merely not watching television.
Freed from the constant bombardment of negativity and manipulation my mind focused on real life stuff that was positive. I started seeing old things in my life with a different viewpoint and realized that I was making things out to be negative because I was expecting them to be.
I noticed that the people around me perpetuate and distribute negative views often because they were told to see it that way. Not directly, subliminally. They 'expect' others to agree with their negativity as if negative things are somehow more important than positive things. When you don't comply, some will get hurt or irate that you are not in agreement with their negative views.
To me, it is a delusional state of mind to promote negativity. Is it not better to assess and then assign negative or positive as it is?
How often do you find yourself being absorbed by negative news?

Natural Science: the study of the regular behavior of nature.
Tom, I live in a state with the fourth highest population of deer.
Food for thought- :bag:
Since the introduction of faster cars & highways, deer have been struck/killed thousands of times.
Wouldn't it be amazing if we could have studied the genes of generations of deer in oh, western Pennsylvania for the last 80 years? And continue studying & testing?
Lol. I know, it's impossible! $$$.
I would think natural/vehicular selection would have favored the deer that's naturally terrified of the sounds of engines, the stench of exhaust.
And perhaps, in a century or 3, we would rarely see the deer corpse at the side of the road.
And that my abducted friends, is the stuff that lingers in my noggin. Be afraid. :chicken:

I'm not sure of the correlation?

I recently read an article at a science site that says they have determined that birdsong is getting louder. Their blaming it on the increased ambient noise levels of humans.
The key insight is that nature directly evolves to cope with human interference.

Perhaps deer will evolve a change in behavior due to civilization expansion?

Hunting season is a method of culling the deer population so it does not interfere with civilization expansion. An aspect of culling that I have not read anything about is...
What is the result of culling to natural breeding cycles in wildlife?
Is culling actually initiating higher populations?
In order to determine this, a study would need to be done over time to determine if culled populations return at a greater rate than in the past.

One of the dangers of electric cars is that they are silent.
The only way to remove the likelihood of deer imacts is to isolate the highway from the deer's natural progression.
This has been done in some areas which also include migration passages for the wildlife (a tunnel or bridge for the wildlife to cross).

The problem with isolated highways is that in the north eastern United States significant costs and designs will be needed and in such confined areas, wildlife populations continue to rise significantly. The wildlife that is displaced by the crossings may end up invading other areas of civilization where preventive steps have not been taken.

The deer have evolved beyond natural predators ability to keep their populations in check. To get the populations back to a natural number, we need to stop hunting them so their natural reproduction cycle can return. We could reintroduce natural predators to the habitat but then we would be in danger as well.
Our only solution, at this time and technology, is to isolate the danger of collisions by modifying our transportation corridors.
