Sci-Fi The Expanse

I'm way behind on a few shows. I have all the seasons to the current one of the Walking Dead but stopped watching it at the end of season 2.
Criminal Minds is a hefty season to binge. So was Buffy and X-Files.
The last season I have of Supernatural is Season 6. Someday I'll get caught up...

Just got the last season of American Horror Story, Mrs J is working down south next week so I'll be binging it over the first couple of nights :wideeyed:

Has anyone seen anything more than "returns in 2018" for when we're going to see S3 episodes?
At least I haven't. I know filming of S3 is still underway & should be ending soon and likely a couple of months of FX work will be needed.

When the last episode of S3 of The Expanse airs this July it may be the end of the series as well. :(

SyFy has decided to not renew the series for a fourth season based on it's ratings. Apparently the agreement SyFy has with the show creators is that SyFy only has exclusive rights to the show for live viewing, meaning when it's broadcast. With shows like Expanse these days being viewed a lot more often on DVR playback or streaming services SyFy ends up not reaping the ratings for those viewings while the ratings for live viewing is low compared to other SyFy shows like The Magicians.

Alcon Entertainment, which produces & finances the show, has said that they will shop the series to other networks.

Would imagine Netflix will have no problems picking this one up guys.
Looks like Amazon might be the show's reprieve. Amazon has the show's streaming rights in the US (Netflix outside of the US) and Amazon Jeff Bezoss, purported to be a fan of the book series that the show is based on, was not happy that SyFy got the show instead of Amazon video.

It's way early in the talks but it looks like we might get at least a 4th season.

This may just be the reason I finally break down and pick up the Amazon service...

Great series, and of course the books are better. I didn't start reading them until after I had started the series, and I'm actually glad about that. VERY glad it's been picked up by Amazon. I imagine they will do a better job, especially since Jeff Bezos really loves the books and is very passionate about it.

When I read books, and I'm sure many others do this, but I tend to assign faces to the characters of actors, actresses, or other people that I know. Not always the most famous ones. At times I will assign the likeness of an actor whose name I don't even know, or I can't remember what series/movie I've even seen them in.

So for these books, I already had the faces ready to assign. I think Syfy did a great job of casting, and honestly I think it's enhanced the reading of the novels.

I'm already past where the series is, so for newer characters I've had to come up with my own faces, and perhaps I may not like the choices when they are eventually cast.

I was happy to find out that Iain M. Banks' Culture novels are going to be serialized on Amazon as well, and they are starting with Consider Phlebas. I'm very curious to see the casting. When I first read that book, I had just seen Casino Royale, so in my mind Horvit looked like Daniel Craig. In fact, for every following Culture novel, when there has been a male protagonist of indeterminate age, I picture him as Daniel Craig so I don't have to come up with someone new, lol.

The cast from Expanse has release a bit of teaser trailer for the upcoming S4 on Amazon. No release date has been released yet but it is expected to be likely mid-year 2019. The new season takes a time-jump forward and deals with the ramification of new worlds now accessible by humans.

On a tangent subject, I'm surprised that Amazon has not tried doing their own video hosting service yet instead of using YouTube which is owned by their now rival, Google. Then again, if Amazon did do something like that they'd try to figure out how to charge everybody.

If you haven't seen it yet, S3 will be available on Amazon starting Feb 8 while the Amazon produced S4 is still expected in 2019.

Great news! I'm also eagerly awaiting the release of the next book in a couple months. It's #8 of a planned 10, so it's getting to the end, and making me sad...
