Random thoughts.... post yours!

the 'Holmes and Watson' movie is getting horrific reviews. multiple accounts of people walking out on it.

Will Ferrell movies are poster children for Hollywood today; stupid, foul, mean-spirited, uninspired, poor quality. Hollywood is great at the technical side of things--sfx, costumres--but horrible at the creative part.

I admit I've only seen bits and pieces of Ferrells movies but I think I got the gist of them.

I just spent about 3hrs earlier posting links to the Terminator Film Franchise.

I can see the appeal to being emotionless.
You can never get your 'feelings' hurt if you possess no emotions.

There's a difference between being 'emotionless' and being in 'control' of your emotions.

With emotional maturity, you still feel the emotions but you have control over what they do to your contentment.

While I may not react as most people do, I still feel the emotions.
The difference is, I have control over how I react to them.

An Android might be completely emotionless. The problem with that is there is no passion in them. Nothing affects them. The implications of nothing has no impact on how they conduct themselves.

Being 'Human' means we react to implications. Emotions are there for a reason. Its called expression.
To stifle our expression causes a buildup of stress.
We naturally express ourselves, we have been expressing ourselves all our lives.
When we feel hurt, we don't want thos feelings. They cause us pain. We want to feel happy and care-free. Who doesn't.
If we stifle those feelings and try to bury them we still have them and they tend to rear up when we don't want them to.
If we deal with them, we can let that feeling out and build our tomorrows from the ashes of the past. They still rear their ugly heads if we are feeling vulerable unless we have emotional maturity and accept that we have dealt with that pain as best we can.

Its a personal delusion they tell themselves to make themselves feel better but it really doesn't work.
The only way to gain the upper hand is to find your own emotional security.
When I talk with someone that is hurting I tel them to remember when they were young. Before all that pain happened. Sometimes that helps them.
See, when you're a kid, you have more imes of contentment than depression.
Its because you haven't had the things that brought you down happen to you yet.
Its a 'pristine' you.
If you can find that again, focus on that sense of being, you can get a handle on it all.

Nearly EVERYTHING that gives us emotional distress is because something did not work out the way you expected it to.
Life is only life.
A duration of time while you exist.
That duration will be filled with things which you have no control over.
The delusion is that you might think you control everything that happens to you.
Emotional Maturity allows you to realize that you don't.

I still like Marcus's comment from Babylon5, Imagine if the bad things that happen to us, did happen only because we deserve them. So I take immense pleasure at the hostility of the universe.

Aliens have superior technology and knowledge, if they discovered Earth as we have discovered many distant places within Earth and consider them exotic and worth keeping, wouldn't it be cool if maybe one or two Aliens decided to drop advanced technology to help conservation of the planet?

What concerns me is if they decide humans are too much of a bother- they've messed up the planet, so why not just get rid of them.
On the thought of aliens coming here, it seems to me that they would be interested in commercial use of the resources, so helping the humans to advance technologically wouldn't be in their best interests.
edited to add: I remember reading a sci fi story where the aliens did give the humans bits of technology, in order to bring the humans up to a level where they would be worth killing.

IIRC there was a discussion about this on Doctor Who, I think the Peter Davison episode with the Cybermen.
Cybermen suggested emotions made one weak.
Doctor said emotions enrich life.
Cyberman puts a blaster to head of companion (Tegan?) and Doctor says 'don't shoot' and Cyberman says 'see? weakness. emotions.'
that's what makes us better than the bots (no offense Tom, Crow and Gypsy, you guys are pretty human)

But... What about the humans who attempt to keep it? Their knowledge and expertise is invaluable, achieving the dexterity and talent for understanding and keeping this world species might be annoying and distract them for more important things like... Like watching stars! :3

It is, from video games point of view, much more better to fight a worthy opponent...
But also from video games point of view, sometimes your best party member, is in the enemy base...

something called DC Universe Channel apparently exists. among their shows is a new 'Swamp Thing' which has already been canceled after one episode.

What's surprising is that they did a full season of it and then immediately killed it. I haven't watched it, as at this point I refuse to pay for any more streaming services, but from what I'm reading it was more horror themed than perhaps it should've been for a comic adaption.

We need to go back in time and bring the PB Max back, I feel that it could lead us to world peace... unless you have a peanut allergy, then you're out of luck.

I'm new and here with a question (yes I love sci-fi, have shelves of books). I am trying to recall a TV episode of some show where a Shakesperean scholar went back in time only to discover that Shakespeare was a hack and ended up writing all the plays himself (logic loop) . It is driving me mad that I can't find it.

Can anyone help me?

BTW, didn't know the site existed; I'll be back... Favorite authors are Chalker and Niven. But I really need to figure out the source of my recollection...
