Steven Spielberg is taking his fixation with aliens and ghosts to a whole new level of mania. The mega-director is creating a new social networking site called "The Rising." The site will be dedicated to those who have had paranormal experiences, and users will be encouraged to share their own extraterrestrial encounters. According to Tech Crunch, Spielberg has already bought the domain names relating to "The Rising" and "Rising," and we should see this site up and running this summer. The Rising will also have it's own original video content that will investigate ghost and alien sightings. There will be a permanent host on hand, no word yet who. See The Rising's logo after the jump.

Spielberg and UFO Abductees [The Rising]

I think Steven has some underlying reason for this, I think he's trying to drum up some ideas for a new movie project. I just hope he won't bore us by putting his own family problems in the movie like he has done in the past. I really disliked his versoin of WAR OF THE WORLDS, he changed it too much. There is a low-budget tv British version of H.G.Wells classic that is about 3 hours long, and I found it quite exciting and cool because it was really close to the original book. I found it on DVD and I've seen it twice.

Hey Steven, what are you really up to? I hope you're not doing this to profit off of people who are seeking help. Hmm.

Good point; it may turn out to be a giant viral project to promote a future film.

Do you happen to know the publisher of the DVD British version of War of the Worlds you found? Sounds like something I'd be interested in watching.

I hope you find it Kevin, I came across it at a convenient store called CVS, about three years ago.

Thanks for the info! I enjoy watching sci-fi films from around the world and, in this case, seeing how the same story is often interpreted differently.

I was going to say...that's pretty smart of him. A) He'll have an audience to promote whatever he wants, and B) he has a pool of ideas/stories to pull from.

Too bad whatever he makes won't be that good.

*ducks* :P
