Scott picks to do Brave New World

Seems a bit strange the earlier report where Ridley Scott stated he had been waiting for the 'book' to come along that he would decide to use for his first scifi film in so long. Especially when that book is a classic, not a modern story.

Ridley Scott's first science fiction movie since 1982's Blade Runner will be an adaptation of Brave New World, reports say.

Scott had earlier discussed making a sci-fi film after he completes work on Robin Hood movie Nottingham.

He said at the time: "I am going to do [another sci-fi film]. I waited for a book for 20 years and I have got the book."

According to the Los Angeles Times, Scott's project will be an adaptation of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

Leonardo DiCaprio, star of the director's A House Of Lies, will play lead character Bernard Max. DiCaprio's father George will produce with Andrew Nicholls writing the screenplay.

Brave New World focuses on an idealised society where members are passive and easily controlled due to genetic engineering, brainwashing and readily-available recreational drugs.

Perhaps his backlog of books to read is even longer than any of ours! :D
