What have you seen recently?

I'd give a thumbs up to Reign of Fire as well. It is one of those rare movies that successfully combines several movie cliches that normally shouldn't go together. In this case it'd be an apocalyptic event, the US military, and... dragons. Throw into the mix the fact that the gung-ho larger-than-life US soldier doesn't survive and it made for a decent movie.

I agree. Vermithrax Rex is still the reigning king (queen?) of onscreen dragons.

Correction: Vermithrax Pejorative

Finally got around to see the remake of Race to Witch Mountain. Surprisingly, I watched the whole thing and didn't think it was that bad. I was expecting it to be more 'kid like' but it was actually enjoyable as a time passer.

I saw the new Star Trek movie.
I must say, it was much better than I had expected it to be.

Just in case thou were wondering,
I viewed said movie in a theatre a while ago, back when it came out. I don't watch movies very often, and when I do, it takes me a while before I post about them; my schedule being crammed in all.

Watched it tonight for about the............hundredth' time or so since it was released back in the mid-90's.......
Still got a VHS copy of the film from back then and one of the movie poster that came out when the movie did.

The soundtrack's pretty good also.................

I tried to make it through the first episode of the new Spartacus series from Showtime and I have to say that it was pretty mediocre which is too bad.

I caught part of the premiere also and... didn't watch the whole thing. It has been getting a lot of hype but I didn't find it that compelling.

Pandorum
Sort of a re take of Sunshine/Event Horizon but good enough. All too possible with the flaws & subliminal desires inside human beings that rise to the top, when the self/faith/society imposed barriers are down.
Avatar
Never have I seen a "Merc" Army so well equipped, yet so tactically inept. The message is cheesy because of the willful & violent greed never & nowhere exhibited by evil corporations. Dances with Wolves/Last of the Mohicans in the future, except the natives win.
Surrogates
Fun. A glimpse at addiction/dependency and how fast it becomes a pandemic. Second thoughts about a first impression. Favorite line ... you can't undo what's been done. A warning that doing is a whole lot easier than undoing.
Terminator Salvation
The hydrobots were tough to believe, and the resistance tactics were scooped from "Westerns", dependent on lone heroes and Calvary charges. The struggle to survive was the disturbing part, but all too possible. Maybe even close.

I did enjoy them all. It was a good term for SciFi.
(I own all but Avatar, and will as soon as available)

Finally caught The Hangover. Had it's moments but overall I though it was pretty overrated. I've seen much funnier movies that didn't get anywhere near the hype.

Oh Mother Earth, THANK you SO much for saying that!

My ENTIRE FAMILY (aside from myself, of course), has been raving on and on about that movie for days on end. Heck, even my GRANDMA is obsessed with it, which, quite frankly, is somewhat disturbing.

I'm NEVER going to watch that movie, not EVAH. :banghead:

Comedic sci-fi. :P

Funniest part wasn't so much seeing the weird alien creatures evolve through the film, it was seeing how they killed the alien creatures in the end. I kept thinking as I saw the end of the film, so that's why Head & Shoulders is so expensive nowadays.............:D

My buddy and I were just talking about Evolution last night. They hyped it up too much when it first came out so it was a bit of a letdown but it's still a fun little movie. Whatever happened to Orlando Jones career anyway?

Great movie. Enough said there.

IMO, the film might be 3+ decades old, but its' still way better than the POS mini-series that came out a few years ago.

Totally agree about Andromeda Strain, I actually watched the original at the beginning of last year and liked it so much that I sought out the mini-series. Boy, was that a big mistake!

Hurt Locker: Decent enough but didn't really leave me with anything and I honestly didn't much care for the characters.

Just watched Rambo last night. Not entirely what I was expecting when taking the earlier movies into account. The immediate striking thing is the level of 'gore' shown. OK, they are trying to drive home the point of the brutal killings taking place and start the movie right into it... OK, fine, I get it, I know what message you're trying to send so there is no reason to keep up the gore level the entire movie. Is that really want today's audiences want? I was thinking he was going to 'get the girl' in this movie so it interesting to see that, while she does have an impact on him (the final scene of the movie), he is still alone. The voice over from the Rambo character also touches on the subject of whether he kills because he has or if he has gotten to the point where he enjoys it. I find myself surprised by this one but I was really interested to see what happens after he gets to the house (again, reference to the final scene); after all, he has spent 40~ years as an isolated killing machine, his entire adult life, so what happens when he has vanquished his demons and wants to return home?

From the commercials I couldn't help but think of Event Horizon also. Is Pandorum worth putting in the NetFlix queue or just write it off as a clone?

I loved Evolution; it was just such a light-hearted movie versus the usual genre creature films that it was a welcome change of pace.

He went to do The Replacements football movie with Keanu Reeves and some 7-Up commercials. After that... uhm....
