There are a lot options out there these days for people when it comes to phones. What is your phone of choice & why?

Nokia E63, on the 3 network here in the UK. £13 a month for internet (1 gig a month?) and 300 minutes or calls within a month (swappable) facebook, twitter, msn and skype. I don't like touchscreens so the keypad is great for me.

I used to have a Palm PPC and that was great for playing Bejewelled and reading ebooks on, even used it with an infra red keyboard at college to type notes up.

But in exchange for cheap monthly rates you guys end up paying full cost for the phone though, right? If I recall it is the opposite of the US market... we get the phone at a cheap subsidized rate but end up paying a fortune for the monthly plan, especially data rates.

I'm not sure I could get used to using a virtual keyboard like that.... I tend to be a keyboard smasher! :D Goes back to the days of using the old IBM & UniSys keyboards back in the day that were actually made out of metal and could take a beating.

The phone is free, tied into a 2 year contract! so, in the end, £13 x 24 and the phone is mine to own. It's technically a £150 phone so paying £312 over 2 years isn't that bad really. 3 network only just recently put that 1 gig allowance on the internet data after they took on so many people they realised their network would struggle.

The E63 is a bit slower over the 3G network than the E71, but it's not disastrous. The E71 is thinner and a nice metal casing, but the E63 fits my hand and has a more mature keypad that doesn't bug me as much. And for BBC iplayer users, there is a way to clone certificates for the E63 (why has the BBC not whitelisted the E63 is a large debate amongst users) although I've not personally tried that yet. Oh, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the E63 whereas the E71 is 2.5mm.....

I had the official £50 keyboard for the PPC. It was slightly smaller than a full size keyboard, your fingers would brush up against each other and accurate typing speeds were down, but the keys pressed down pretty well and it didn't break in several years of using it. I managed to get another plugged-in, transformer like collapsing metal keyboard for my dads more modern PPC. They are not as bad as you think  Just expensive, compared to the cheap ones I use for PC's that I hammer away on.

I like plain and simple, nothing fancy. I use a "switch-blade" type of cell phone.
I was a Motorola RAZR user for a number of years before my current BlackBerry. The next phone will be a Droid 2.

The BlackBerry is not a bad phone but everybody else, even the new WinMo7, is passing it by.

I did indeed end up going with a Droid 2. I sure miss the contact management features of my BlackBerry, in particular the sync between the BB & Outlook, but so far I am really liking the Droid.

Even though BlackBerry is on the verge of dying with consumers there are still a good number of phone platforms out there.

You've got the plethora of Android phones, Apple's iOS iPhone, Windows Phone, Symbian which powers millions of devices yet around the world, and new comers like Tizen and FireFox OS.

Over the years my wife & I have gone from 'dumb' phones to flip phones with basic features to BlackBerry devices and currently to Android devices. My experience with a first generation BlackBerry Torch was so bad that it resulted in me buying new Android devices for both of us at the same time just to get away from BlackBerry. Currently I'm on a few years old Motorola Razr Maxx HD while my wife using a Motorola Razr M.

So what are you using? Anybody still using a BlackBerry classic device? How about something new like Tizen?

{Holy thread bump, Batman!}

Looks like BlackBerry is starting to get desperate. Their input in the US 'net neutrality' debate is that companies should be forced to make apps for the BlackBerry platform! :o_O: The mess that would be created by forcing companies to create apps for specific mobile device platforms would be staggering.

Smartphones, Meh.
I went out yesterday to put a new plan on my new android AT&T phone I got for Christmas. C-Spire told me I need a new phone and tried to sell me something I didn't want or need. I refuse to let AT&T steal my money again. Went to walmart. Bought a Straight Talk and guess what - I have phone service again. $30 a month.
Now if I just had someone I want to call?

How do you get all wrapped up in fads and gimmicks over a simple device?

Modern "smart phones" are essentially small compact form computers. Heck, some of them are more powerful than laptops from just a few years ago.

Modern "smart phones" are essentially small compact form computers.
Which begs the question; How much computering does someone need everyday? Its comical to see people shackled to their devices and stressing over them. I'm glad we don't have armed conflict in the states. Being oblivious to your surroundings makes you a great target. Perhaps that is what the powers that be want? Is there a population culling being prepared, Hahaha.

What gets me is that (from my experience with AT&T) the phone companies don't have to be nice to people. They are making so much money every minute that they don't have to concern themselves with customer satisfaction unless they are trying to push a new product on you. They stole my $50 and I know there is nothing that can be done about it because nothing can hurt them. For every 1 person that boycots them, they get 100 new customers to take their place. We are supporting our own demise. What will happen if all service is killed for 1 week? What kind of rage would that generate? People are batshiat crazy.
Did the phone companies pay for it? No, the citizens that pay taxes paid for it. Money that could have went into a community garden or funding for a free clinic. I call it all a misdirection to take people's focus away from life and things that are supposed to matter. Placate instant gratification and people won't look at how messed up are world actually is. If they don't look, why fix it?

Have a Samsung S6, can't justify upgrading to the latest version. Mainly used for phone calls, texts, photos, music, and that stupid 4 pictures game.

Flash forward to 2017 and BlackBerry OS, Windows OS, and Palm OS based smart phones are now a thing of the past. In the interim Mozila OS came & went and Samsung was never able to get its Tizen OS to gain mass traction in the phone market (they are still using it but it's not powering any major phones).
