Overview: The first Cylon war has been raging for 10 years and a young Ensign William Adama joins the fleet. He's disappointed not to be assigned to a fighter but to a freighter. His co-pilot, Lt. Coker Fasjovic, isn't too keen on having a rookie flying his aircraft as he has only a short time before he again becomes a civilian. Their cargo is a civilian scientist, Dr. Becca Kelly, but they no sooner leave than she has new orders for them and a new destination. She is less than forthcoming about just what her secret mission is but Adama is keen, particularly as it involves going into Cylon controlled space. Nothing is as it seems however.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012) [BSG prequel]

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be another BSG spinoff series. BSG:B&C will focus on a young William "Husker" Adama, a Viper pilot in his 20's during the 10th year of the war against the Cylons. Adama, fresh out of the Colonial military academy, has been assigned to the newest Colonial Battlestar, the Galactica. While taking part in a secret mission it is Adama who might be crucial to give the humans an advantage in the war that they have been losing.

BSG:B&C will, of course then, take place in the timeline after the current spinoff series, Caprica, and before the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series. William Adama, as BSG fans know, will ultimately rise through the ranks of the military to become Adminral Adama who will once again lead humanity's fight against the Cylons in BSG. Roughly it is 20 years after Caprica and 40 years before BSG. As it deals with Cylon war the pilot will be more action oriented versus Caprica.

David Eick will be the producer at the helm of the 2-hour pilot that will rely upon green sets & CGI rather than traditional sets. The pilot is expected to air in either late 2011 or early 2012 with a possible series to follow.

The green set filming will be a style similar to SyFy's other green set show, Sanctuary. BSB:B&C will also share another trait with Sanctuary, in that following the origins of Sanctuary being a webisode series, BSG:B&C was also originally planned as an online webisode series. After early positive response to the Michael Taylor the decision was made to instead go straight to a network pilot.

i realy hope this is good, i saw a few caprica's and it was very good, i just didn't get into it. more action for me is a good thing

A good show with lots of space combat, posturing and catchy battle cries is called for! Now we just need a time machine to skip forwards to when it airs

I'm with you guys! Caprica is mildly entertaining but it is too 'TV soap opera' like for me to really get into it.

I'm wondering why syfy is so locked into the BSG universe?

With AMC's Walking Dead and TnT's Falling Skies you would think they would be all for doing something NEW?

BTW:

Can TNT find the same success with Falling Skies as AMC did with Walking Dead? Aliens always carry more budget needs than zombies which could be detrimental to the series, but if what I'm seeing here is any indication of the tone of the show it could be a step above most small screen forays into the genre.

Synopsis:
About a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force. Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. The series also stars Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights) as Hal and Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s two sons; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps run the group’s commissary. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT’s Into the West) will play a recurring role as a fierce resistance fighter.

TNT has also launched a new, four page web comic that will continue until the show airs in June 2011.

Yup - The WebComic is there too

FALLING SKIES opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

At the center of the series is Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), a Boston history professor whose family has been torn apart. His wife was killed in the initial attack, and one of his three sons has been captured. Determined to get his son back and to ensure the safety of his other two sons, Tom must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as one of the leaders of the resistance movement known as the 2nd Mass, because of their location in Boston, Mass. They are constantly trying to gain intelligence about the aliens in order to one day outsmart and overtake them and hopefully rebuild their lives.

Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) co-stars as Anne Glass, a pediatrician who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic upheaval in their lives. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT's Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance, Weaver. The series also stars Drew Roy (Secretariat) as Hal, Tom's oldest son and a growing fighter in the resistance movement; Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom's youngest son; Connor Jessup (The Saddle Club) as Ben, Tom's son who was captured by aliens; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps Anne in the group's makeshift medical clinic. Colin Cunningham (Living in Your Car) is John Pope, the leader of an outlaw motorcycle gang and Sarah Carter (Shark) is Margaret, a wary survivor of Pope's gang.

FALLING SKIES focuses on the resilience of the survivors and their determination to maintain their humanity when all else has been destroyed. It is a tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which everyday people are called upon to become heroes. They may be outmatched, outnumbered and outgunned, but nothing can beat the human spirit. Most of all, the series is about the ties that bind people together in the most difficult of circumstances.

The aliens in the series are mighty, mysterious and merciless. They are highly intelligent and use military-like tactics, which makes them an overwhelming force against the 2nd Mass. There are two types of aliens that the human survivors have named Skitters and Mechs. Combining live action and special visual effects, the Skitters have spider-like bodies and incredible strength and agility. The deadly, robotic Mechs stand upright and can shoot bullets from their arms. The aliens control captured children, like Tom's son Ben, through bio-mechanical harnesses but have yet to reveal their ultimate plan for them.

FALLING SKIES is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, along with DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, Graham Yost (Justified, The Pacific) and screenwriter Robert Rodat. Rodat, who earned an Oscar® nomination for his screenplay for Saving Private Ryan, wrote the pilot from an idea he co-conceived with Spielberg. Mark Verheiden (Heroes, Battlestar Galactica) and Greg Beeman (Heroes, Smallville) are co-executive producers. The pilot was directed by Carl Franklin (One False Move, Out of Time).

Interesting that the art work is with a classic Cylon Raider instead of the re-imagined version from the newer series.

Easy... instant viewer base. A show set in a new environment is going to have to find a fan base while BSG already has a big following. The Walking Dead is one of those rare new shows that found a fan base pretty quickly.

This doesn't surprise me too much. Caprica brought back the original Cylon look. This also makes sense to have classic Raiders since it is from the past and they want to give it that feel.

The over-all appearance is similar but still different enough from the original to stand out. Plus the final episode of Caprica showed about a dozen deviations of the form, each more suited for the purpose the Cyclon was being used for.

[img2=left]http://www.coolscifi.com/forums/images/smilies/sci-fi/battlestar_galactica/cylon.gif[/img2]Going off on a tangent for a sec... speaking of Caprica's finale, I was not expecting the 'skin jobs' to co-exist along with the original Cylon models. Based upon the re-imagined BSG I had always thought that they were several generations down the line, along with the way the basic warrior was evolved between the original Cylon (shown in the BSG museum during the premiere) and the models that were then being used as the grunts.

Back to the Raider... the Raider from the re-imagined BSG was an organic hybrid with no pilot (because the ship itself was the pilot) while the classic Raider was just a standard ship flown by the crew of 3 Warriors. If Blood & Chrome starts out the war with the more classic Raider, I hope the cover that part of it.

Of course, for all we know, Blood & Chrome might take the universe away from the re-imagined universe and more down the path of the war as shown in the video games & comics in which case we'd be looking are more of a classic influence.

I haven't finished the series yet. I plan on buying the whole shebang pretty soon, since I have every BSG (remake) box set and movie.

Ron Moore's plans for the BSG remake leak online. This is an interesting read. In it you read how he wanted to change the Space Opera format from Star Trek style to something completely different. I personally think he accomplished this pretty well with BSG.

Now onto some Blood and Chrome news I have finally seen a picture of the younger William Adama.

SyFy is reconsidering BSG: Blood & Chrome and it might get up chopped into a web series instead of a network series.

Initially support was strong for BSG: B&C but the failure of Caprica is fresh enough that some at SyFy are doubting the viability of a new BSG spinoff.
