Sci-Fi Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012) [BSG prequel]

2013? That seems like a long time to sit on something that's finished.

Yeah Markean, this is because the postproduction is huge.

As all the sets of BSG have been destoyed, now they have all those sets digitalized, they took a lot of pictures of all the old sets of BSG and Blood and Chrome has been done on green screen, so they is a lot of 3D stuff to make the get the pilot ended. The work is done with the actors, but not completed with the computer engineers...

The good point is that this manner of work seems to be cheaper than to maintain big producion studios like in BSG, so they if they spend less money for the new BSG BandC, then there is more chances to see it on the air.

They are using digitized sets? That's so sad. Those sets were awesome. I don't have any problem with (well done) CGI. but a whole set?

Most of Sanctuary is filmed on a green screen set and for that most part it isn't evident. Thanks to digital affects, and computer processing power only dreamed of 20 years ago, green scene shooting is becoming more common.

and you must consider too they took a bunch of photos of every part of the BSG Universal studio that were in Vancouver before they destroyed it.

So all the Galactica sets of the Reimagined series are digitezed and with CGI effects we can see part of the ship that It was impossible to see.

Hearing reports that it isn't looking good for BSG: Blood & Chrome. Due to costs of producing the show, which was originally intended to be a web series, SyFy is now looking at airing the 90-minute pilot on SyFy as a movie and then turn it into a digital series.

What is a "digital series" you ask? As of now it means that it wouldn't be a regular series shown on TV nor would it be a regular series shown on the web, instead you would end up seeing sporadic episodes being made available through various means such as streaming and DVD sales. So... a web series was switched to a TV series was switched to a digital series? Yeah, I'm a little confused on that one too and is the first case I've come across of "digital series" in this context.

But, if the show ever does get seen, what can you expect? Based upon a leaked trailer that was recently shown at WonderCon by Kevin Grazier, the "scientific adviser" to the series, you can expect a fast paced action show with plenty of space battles. In other words... everything Caprica wasn't. Unfortunately Grazier used a cover of The Immigrant Song by Trent Reznor that he wasn't authorized to do so the trailer is being taken down from most site.

( ... but you could try clicking here. )

That was a cool trailer. Which sucks because now I want to see the show and it might never appear.

On the plus side, "Digital series" could mean something awesome. It could mean it's a show that's produced and then sold directly through digital channels, skipping main cable television. I've believed things would start to go this way, it just needs someone to try it first. Something like BSG is the thing to do it. Done that way, a show will live and breath based on actual fans watching it (paying for it) rather than some mystical "ratings". Imagine how many good shows would still be around if that were the case?

It'd be cool of somebody like Netflix picked it up as a series. They were in talks about picking up Terra Nova from Fox after it was cancelled but I think a show like BSG:B&C, with its built-in audience and equity of the BSG franchise, would do quite well in attracting new subscribers.

Does anyone have any idea if anything is happening with the BSG Blood and Chrome. Google of course says all kinds of things but nothing conclusive....

Unfortunately after the last flurry of activity that SyFy was going to show the pilot as a movie & then a possible digital series there has been no further updates.

The trailer garnered a lot of interest from fans who were seeking something a bit more action oriented than Caprica so it is really disheartening to see the project going stagnant.

first two parts when very good. looking forward to every friday on Machinima Prime [youtube channel]

Amazon have the DVD listed, which is nice
