Battleship (2012)

There's a small blog with some filming pics and back ground on this board game to movie conversion of sorts. It includes an alien invasion, so slightly off the storyboard! But it's right up our street.

Battleship Trailer

The trailer was supposed to have already been out, and the film release may have been put back 3/4 of a year. We'll just have to wait and see what it comes out like.

Battleship (2012) - IMDb

The director, Peter Berg, is working on this film and a second and then will be remaking Dune.

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

after watching Taken and recently Unkown Liam Neeson can do no wrong realy. Peter Berg is good aswell; might be good

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

Looks cool. I'm excited to hear they are remaking Dune! I wonder who would be a good actor to play Paul Arteides?

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

I still can't fathom why the heck this movie was licensed from the classic board game. Unless there was a hidden part of the game that I never found, I sure don't remember any alien battles in UFOs from the game when I was a kid.

The trailer is out finally. Release date in the UK is 20th April 2012.

Hasbro Toy Company strikes again! They've already made Transformer movies and the G.I.Joe film.

I'm not impressed by the trailer for Battleship, I think it's another flick for the kiddies, like the Transformers films (which I couldn't stand). Too bad, I like Liam Neeson, and playing the electronic Battleship game years ago.

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

New trailer released... the more I see of it, the more it looks like it is a very high priced B-movie.

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

I just noticed the second trailer myself and was about to post it. I saw a comment from viewers of the trailer suggesting, "scathing" responses were the norm. I'll watch the trailer shortly........

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

If only one character in the movie utters the line "You sunk my battleship," it'd be worth paying to see. Almost.

And it COULD happen. The GI Joe movie had someone mutter a line about one of the characters having "realistic hair" and a "kung fu grip".

No shame you see. That's Hollywood's secret.

Re: Battleship (2012 Liam Neeson, Rihanna)

I haven't seen this movie but I probably will. I will no doubt consider myself 'fleeced' for the ticket price but what the hell. The effects look ok.

Is the plot-line, an alien spacecraft capable of traversing inter-stellar distances, of generating the enormous energy levels that this travel would require, and of moving in three dimensions, is defeated by a lumbering old battleship that can only move sluggishly through seawater in two dimensions? Maybe I will save my money.

Yeah, that is pretty much it. It is going to make a ton of money though because it is shiny, makes a lot of noise, stars the singer Rihanna, and will be promoted endlessly until we are all sick of it before even seeing the movie.

I scoffed at the idea of a "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie and look what happened with that. All it takes is one good actor to make it all worthwhile. Reserving judgement. Did anyone else notice the torpedos are pegs from the game.

The preview trailers looked awful to me, plus I knew it was based off the game "Battleship", I'm just going to just forget this movie.

Maricem, I noticed, and I rolled my eyes then shook my head.

So Battleship, a movie about aliens attacking ships is really a Naval film?
"I've been trying to do a movie set in the water for a long time. My dad was a naval historian, he used to drag me to every Navy museum in the world, anywhere we could go," Berg told MTV News at Toy Fair. "I've always wanted to do a movie about the Navy."

I think not.

Not sure how much I am looking forward this but I will put it on my list to see.

Carl Weathers and Mario Van Peebles, just how bad can it be?
Well, if it is really bad then Asylum can claim it is a parody and, at least in the US, have legal leg to stand on. :D

I was a bit surprised to see the lawsuit though because it is pretty common to see B-movie versions released around the same time as the big-budget versions; it has been going on for years.

Asylum doesn't seem too concerned. :D

The Global Asylum said:
The Global Asylum has promoted the feature film American Battleship for nearly a year while Universal raised no concerns.

The timing of Universal’s recently filed lawsuit coincides with mixed reviews of its big-budget film, Battleship — the first movie based on a board game since Clue. Looking for a scapegoat, or more publicity, for its pending box-office disaster, the executives at Universal filed this lawsuit in fear of a repeat of the box office flop, John Carter of Mars.

The Universal action is wholly without merit and we will vigorously defend their claims in Court. Nonetheless, we appreciate the publicity.
