US Vet drives across America

Daniel McConnell was a US Army Apache helicopter pilot and, after spending nearly 12 years in the service including the loss of his right arm in battle, he decided that when he came home he was going to see America.

With that goal in mind he started out in May of 2008 in an old 84' Chevy Suburban that will be both his transportation and living quarters as he circles the entire continental United States.

A $1,000.00 beat up truck, a dog for company, and the open road... (y)

Daniel's Big Trip

I'm only going as far as camping with a band of hippies for a couple of weeks this summer. This is taking enough risks (especially with the state of his vehicle) to wonder if he'll reach the end of the trip! Guess it's one to occassionally look in on.

I am not the camping type at all but I think every Code Monkey (aka: IT programmer/developer/whatever) dreams of being able to just get in a car and drive across America without any worries.

On his blog it turns out that he was in my part of the world recently. The "Reading Pagoda" has been an attraction for longer than I've been around and still draws some tourists.

I wish him & Rockstar luck on their journey.
