Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Over the past few days, photos from the set of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot have surfaced, revealing Megan Fox's April O'Neil, but now we have our first look at the turtles themselves. Only they don't look that much like turtles.

What you're looking at is the leads of the Michael Bay-produced reboot in their motion capture outfits, complete with shell inner-tube. You'll also be able to see what might just be the revamped Foot Clan.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" opens on June 6, 2014.

I still can't get my head around Michael Bay doing a TMNT movie. Considering what he has done to the Transformers franchise, I am not expecting big things out this reboot.

I'm not expecting much, particularly from Michael bay. I MIGHT hire it on dvd when it comes out. But really, I'm hugely sentimental about TNMT, it was a very enjoyable part of my childhood, but I think that's where it belongs. Also these enemies... they're obviously not ninjas, they're black wearing army guys. So looks like Bay's going to do exactly what he did with transformers. That being, make a movie that's not about the title characters.

... and besides the turtle faces looking totally different from the prior movies & comics, shouldn't April O'Neil have red hair? Is Michael Bay at the point where just sticking somebody like Megan Fox in front of the camera, regardless of the character being played, is all he cares about?

Honestly I don't think MB actually cares about these 80s properties he's making films of. I thought Megan Fox was an interesting casting choice after MB said she was extremely difficult to work with and MF said that MB was like Hitler.
That said though, he makes money with these movies. I don't know how, but he does it. So he's going to keep getting paid to make these movies. Masters of the Universe next, and then Voltron. I guarantee. Actually, if he had a go of making a Robotech film he could probably pull that off. Drama, military stuff and action I think he can manage.

Is anyone going to watch this movie? I don't know and not real sure yet, I have only seen a few scenes and not really the whole theatrical trailer. These turtles look a little creepy looking to me. I love Michael Bay's work but this movie? I loved the previous Ninja Turtle movies, they might have looked a little silly or maybe cute to some people but those turtles were awesome possum and rocked with me. I have all 3 movies and enjoy watch them so much, fun, popcorn fun movies.

I'm on the fence about going to this, the turtles look bizarre and the Shredder armour is just way OTT and he looks awful. The reason Shredder always looked so menacing was that you knew it was a guy within the armour but yet he looked like a proper villain. In this it looks like Optimus Prime had a baby.

The original movie was great, sure its aged but it had a lot of charm and was pretty dark in places for a kids movie. The turtle suits looked better than the CGI in the new one too. In fact their appearance has gotten worse with each film or show over the years. I'm not really a fan of Michael Bay tbh but maybe it will surprise me.

A sequel was announced this morning. Bay will be back with the same writers. A release date of June 3, 2016 is planned. Yay?

Oh, my, this was bad. How Megan Fox got the role would likely make for an interesting story I suspect if it was revealed. I mean, after all, she publicly trashed Michael Bay which led to her leaving the Transformers series but she ends up in another of his movies with so much plastic surgery that her face looks very little like she used to. Then her acting is so bad it is almost like when a really good actor is supposed to be playing a bad actor in a 'movie in a movie' type situation. And, of course, she looks nothing like the April O'Neil character.

Getting past Megan Fox, the turtles themselves are creepier looking than the pictures suggest. Bay seems obsessed with anthropomorphizing and it just isn't working. Giving Transformers mouths was bad enough but putting human lips and human teeth to 6-foot tall turtles is just creepy.

For those that haven't seen it yet don't read click this button....
Why is Shredder's armor now a powered suit instead of the traditional Samurai suit of armor? It added nothing to the film. If anything it just looked silly because Shredder is now so huge that there is no way he'd be able to get around wearing the suit.

And trying to tie the origins of the TMNT and Splinter to a child April O'Neil?! Again, it didn't add anything to the film other than act as a painfully forced emotional bond between the characters.

Bah!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) movie has hit the internet. It is a cam copy and not a very good one at that. I drove by the local theater last night and saw that it is playing there now too. Not sure if this is a theater type movie for me. Perhaps with the grandkids?

Did you end up taking the kids? Based on the first 2014 movie I'm not sure I would've spent the money on watching the sequel, if even for kids.
