William Shatner has responded to J.J. Abrams's comments regarding his axed cameo in the upcoming Star Trek film.

Abrams recently admitted that he had devised a way to bring Shatner back to the franchise as Captain James T. Kirk, but ditched the flashback scene because "it didn't quite feel right".

Shatner has since posted a video message to Abrams on YouTube, claiming that he hadn't been informed about the cameo role.

"Nobody ever came to me and said, 'we have a cameo,'" he stated. "The truth is, I wouldn't have wanted to do a cameo because you were having trouble fitting it in.

"Nobody ever asked me and I'm just sorry that I'm not in your wonderful movie. I would've loved to have been in it. If you make another one, maybe you could think of ways of bringing Captain Kirk back to life."

Wait, what?

Abrams says the idea was ditched so why would anybody have approached him about the idea then?

Well, Shatner got his part in the 'movie' didn't he?

I wonder if this is all part of an 'unofficial' viral campaign to drum up interest/excitement for the movie? Eveyone doing their bit, everyone from the franchise even if they aren't in this particular movie?

A stamp of approval by ex stars is one thing. Little viral videos and comments work just as well on the fans I feel. Where no news is considered bad news and any news is of a benefit then the numbers of nay sayers will be small and even then, they'll end up watching the film anyhow.

We're talking about it here as a result aren't we? Ensuring no one is in the dark about the film, stirring conversation outside of the forums, by word of mouth, etc.

lol

Tim, I doubt that anyone in the world of sci-fi fandom is "in the dark" about this movie.

I just think that this is Bill being Bill. Kind of reminds me of when Adam West got all uppity because he wasn't asked to star in the newest Batman movies...

Seeing as how by time time we got to Batman & Robin in 1997, the movie franchise had become even more cheesy then the old series with West, so giving him at least a cameo in one of the movies would've seemed perfectly normal.
