Plot: The persons and events in this film are fictitious - fortunately! A masterpiece of off-the-wall comedy, Airplane! features Robert Hays as an ex-fighter pilot forced to take over the controls of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning; Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend/stewardess/co-pilot; and a cast of all-stars including Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar... and more. Their hilarious high jinks spoof airplane disaster flicks, religious zealots, television commercials, romantic love... the list whirls by in rapid succession. And the story races from one moment of zany fun to the next.
Airplane! (1980)

I'm pretty sure no one has a thread on this hilarious movie yet, so come talk with me about it! I crack up every single time I see it.

It's a pointless movie from 1980. It was absolutely hilarious, it is sometimes on ABC family or the comedy channel. These people are trapped on a plane, and the captain is sick, so they need someone to fly it....ok I can't explain it, because it sounds like a joke. But they make plays on words the entire time, and it is hilarious!
Here are two:
Elaine Dickinson: You got a telegram from headquarters today.
Ted Striker: Headquarters--what is it?
Elaine Dickinson: Well, it's a big building where generals meet, but that's not important right now.

Dr. Rumack: Can you fly this plane and land it?
Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious.
Dr. Rumack: I am serious, and don't call me Shirley

i asked my mom and some of my friends if they have seen it and they said yes and i should too b/c its really funny so i guess i have to now haha we are like the only ones tlaking in this forum

Airplane 2 was pretty great, because it made references to the first one. You should watch the original, it's definitely the best!

LOL! I love that one...I need to see the movie again! I love Johnny's character...

McCrosky: This fog is getting thicker!
Johnny: And Leon is getting laaaaarrrrrger!

Elaine: [over intercom] "There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

and then:

doctor: "we have to get these people to a hospital right away!"
elaine:"what is it?"
doctor: "it's a big white building with patients inside. but that's not important right now."

 This movie never fails to crack me up!

Johnny: There's a sale at Pennys!

Johnny: Well, it's a big pretty white plane with a red stripe, curtains at the windows, wheels, and it just looks like a big Tylenol!
