Has anyone read the commonwealth series by Alan Dean Foster? I love this series! It includes several about Flinx an Pip, and others that are set in the same universe on worlds that are often mentioned in other books. It's a very good set in my opinion.

Alan Dean Foster looks familiar but I cant place his work. I read a lot of 'Best Of' Compilations so I most likely read his work in a short story.
Is the story you refer to a SciFi adventure or Fantasy Adventure?
Do you have a link to more info?

Here is a link to his site. It doesn't show much info about the books, though.

Tough to remember, huh!

He writes some of both sci-fi and fantasy.

Anyway, you might know his name from a couple of short story books he wrote, entitled With Friends Like These... and ...Who Needs Enemies, as well as several novelizations of movies. He did Outland, Alien, The Last Starfighter, and the one I will begin reading this weekend, The Chronicles of Rid****. (Some may be books he wrote that were made into movies, I am not sure.) He also did several Star Trek books.

My favorite series is the commonwealth series. In it, humans know several other sentient races and quite a few planets. Some planets are idealistic planets with perfect weather and lots of development, while others are nearly uninhabited due to lack of interest in settling there. Tran-ky-ky is a frozen world where there are no native wheels, only skates. Midworld is a jungle world literally covered in jungle several hundred meters tall, with amazingly beautiful but even more dangerous life forms. Cachalot is covered in water, and Dis hosts the galactic surfing competition, where a ride on one wave can take several hours and even a day if you don't fall. The truly reckless (insane?) surfers take only boards, with no weapons for defense against the predatory fish or suspensors to escape the nearly always fatal surf.

I will write more later. It's hard to write much without giving away significant plot lines of several books.

WoW, That CommonWealth Series does sound good. Perhaps I will seek it at my next trip to the P.L.

Yes. I have read just about every one of his books & enjoyed most of them.

My favourites of all the thranx/humanx Commonwealth books are the 3 Icerigger books - Icerigger, Mission to Moulokin & The Deluge Drivers.
