Hey everybody. I just finished the last chapter (there are 13 or 14), so I thought I'd let you have the next one tonight.
Chapter 6
Back at the hotel, they discussed what to do for the rest of the day.
“We can’t stay in the hotel. It’s the most romantic city in the world, and I’m not going to sit around all night” said Sydney, who was sitting on the floor, thumbing through Frommer’s Guide to Paris . “Look at this. L’Arc du Triomphe. The Louvre. Notre Dame Cathedral…” She looked at Vaughn pleadingly.
“Sark is in the city. We can’t risk leaving the device here, and we can’t risk running into him.” Vaughn replied.
“I know, but I may never come here again. I want to make the most of it.” she said, pouting.
“Sydney, I promise you that I will take you here again someday.” Vaughn told her, giving in to her puppy eyes. He would have loved to have had more time to spend with her. Sydney smiled widely at his promise and kissed him. Weiss looked at his shoes.
“Sorry to interrupt the lovefest, but who wants to watch a movie?” he asked.
“Sure, sounds good.”
They all piled on the couch where Vaughn had slept the night before and watched Passport to Paris and The Sweetest Thing on Payperview. Weiss fell asleep, but soon woke up when Sydney and Vaughn pushed him off the couch.
“Hey, that wasn’t nice!” he said. He walked into his own room calling over his shoulder, “I’m getting my own room service for dinner.”
Vaughn looked at Sydney who had been snuggled against him when they watched the movie. “Should we get food?” he asked. She looked up at him and nodded sleepily. They ordered the most romantic dinner they could think of and had a picnic in the middle of the floor.
“This is a great burger and fries” Sydney said, her mouth full.
“I can’t believe you’re in Paris and you want American food!” exclaimed Vaughn, shaking his head. She smiled happily before taking another huge bite.
Suddenly, the phone rang. Sydney gestured to Vaughn to pick it up, since she was eating. He walked over and answered it.
“Hello?”
“Agent Vaughn. I was under the impression that this is the room Sydney is staying in.” Jack’s voice boomed through the receiver.
“Um, yes, Mr. Bristow. This is her room.” Sydney raised her eyebrows and mouthed “what does he want?”
“Well then. What are you doing there? I believe it’s eleven o’clock at night, isn’t it?” Jack asked him.
“Her room has a couch. I’m just sleeping on the couch.” Vaughn replied, rolling his eyes at Sydney. She walked over and took the phone from him.
“Dad, did you need something?” she asked.
“Well, no. I was just checking up on you. Did you get the Rambaldi device?”
“Yeah Dad, we got it. I’ll see you later, okay? Bye.” She hung up. She didn’t want to deal with her father right now. Although she knew that he loved her dearly, and she loved him, but he was almost as nosy as Weiss.
Vaughn was piling the dishes back on the trolley that the food had come on. She walked over and wrapped her arms around him.
“I just wanted to tell you that I’m so happy to be here with you. I love you so much and there is no one I would rather be with right now.”
They kissed again, a sweet, soft kiss like their first. Weiss opened the door between the rooms, but saw them and quietly went back to his own room.
“Sydney? I know this isn’t the best time, but I never got to tell you about Alice.”
Sydney frowned at him, but didn’t let go.
“Remember when we ran into you and Will at the restaurant? Well, we broke up that night. She told me that she thought I was in love with someone else because I was so distracted and I told her she was right. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you weeks ago, you just never gave me the chance to explain.”
Sydney looked up at him, her eyes sparkling. He held her tighter and she rested her head softly on his chest.
“I love you so much Sydney” Vaughn whispered into her hair.
