Sydney decided it was best to not make speculations. He probably had an emergency, so that's why he wasn't there. It had better have been a pretty damn big one she thought. It wasn't everyday you destroyed something like a dozen SD cells. What could be more important she thought. Maybe he and Alice had ran off to Vegas to get married early. Vaughn probably thought she hated her now, Sydney sighed. She had probably ruined her dream of them ever becoming more than friends or co-workers. Sydney pulled into her driveway and shut her car off. She was a new, free women now, she could do as she pleased. (and do whom she pleased....lol..::cough cough Vaughn:
What should she do first? she thought. She felt incomplete, she had never had free time on her hands. And when she did she usually spent them hanging out with Francie or Will, or her and Vaughn would meet somewhere secretly and talk. She always loved meeting with him. It was special, he would listen and make her feel irreplacable and smart and funny and ..... STOP SYD! You're doing it again! Just think, okay what do you want to do the most? No Sd6, i can do anything The only thing Sydney could think of was the thing she had been waiting forever to do and since SD6 was gone nothing stood in her way. See Vaughn. But Vaughn didn't even know SD6 was gone and he probably didn't want to see her. Oh well, she thought, it was probably for the best.

"Michael?" Alice said looking deeper into his eyes.
Vaughn moved his head downward, he didn't want her looking into his eyes. He barely let anyone see into his eyes, except Sydney of course. -Ring Ring- Vaughn's cell phone was ringing.
"Stupid phone!" Alice said. "I told them to quit calling, i said you were taking the day off."
"What!?" said Vaughn, reaching for a towel.
"Well, Mr. Wiss call several times and he was being very rude to me."
"Mr. Wiss....oh you mean Weiss. What did he say to you?"
"Well he called like 10 times...he just said you needed to come in it was urgent. He also said the bank reached it's 12 goals."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Vaughn was angry and in shock. 12 goals....was it possible. (he knows what it means) He reached for his phone too late.
"I didn't tell you because you spend too much time there, you're becoming distant." she said calmly.
Vaughn checked his voice mail.
-Voice message #1- It was Weiss. "Listen here, you get your ass down here right now! We did it! I mean Sydney did it. She found intel and well...just get down here." -end message-
-voice message #2- "Michael, it's me again! Where are you? And why is Alice answering your phone? Geez, you've really screwed up this time! Get down here now!"
-voice message #3- "Guess who? In the background you could hear Sydney, "Did you get ahold of him?"
"No his voice mail." Weiss said. "Damn Michael you really jacked up huh? Don't bother coming in, cuz frankly me or Syd don't wanna see you right now. " Weiss began whispering, "you insensitive jerk, Sydney is in tears here, she called and Alice answered the phone, she thinks you two are doing....anyways, I thought you cared for her? I guess not, well as I said before don't bother coming in tonight, we don't need you anymore. Lambart is filling Sydney in right now, so you can thank him later for doing your job ...click. -end message-
Sydney called? "Alice did a women call?" he said turning quickly to face her.
"Yeah." she said brushing her hair.
"How long ago?" he asked frantically.
"Oh, i'd say about 2 hours ago. But she called back again right after you got in the shower."
"Why the hell didn't you tell me?"
"Sorry..."
"What did she say?" Vaughn said cutting her off
"Well first, she said could you tell him i was sorry. And i asked why. She said oh, he'll know. Other than that, nothing. She sounded upset, and kinda excited. But the second time she called i could tell she had been crying."
Vaughn was already dressed. Crying? he thought. Oh God! He was halfway out the door.
"Wait Michael," she said stopping him, "What about us, tonight? I thought we would celebrate?"
"Sorry, i can't." he said still walking.
"Michael if you get into the car, don't bother coming back!"she said holding back tears. She had seen the way he lit up when she told him about the girl. Vaughn stopped. "Look Alice, i just have to go."
"Then take me with you!" she said pleadingly. She could tell he was going to meet this women.
"I can't," he said sadly.
"Michael you never answered my question, do you love me?"
He looked at her, her hair a matted mess, her eyes filled with tears. He couldn't say no, even if it meant lieing. "Yeah sweety, i do." He kissed her passionately got in his car and drove off.

"Well La T DA..." he said sarcastically. "Done with Alice?"
"Shut up!" he said, "I'm on my way."
"Why? Sydney left like an hour ago, all the paper work is done."
"Where did Sydney go?"
"Mike, i'm not telling you so you can go and hurt her again. Just get over it."
"I hurt her?" Vaughn said taken back.
"Well duh, she was waiting for you all this time. To be with you. But instead you went home to ... to BANG that thing....Alice. Just go home, there is nothing you can do for her, your ENGAGED remember!?!" yelled Weiss.
"I know, but i just have to talk to her." Vaughn was begging.
"Well tomorrow you can. You'll see her at the debriefing."
"What debriefing?" Vaughn said, "I thought we handled everything tonight, that's what you said?"
"We did finish everything tonight, you will be debriefed on your next asset. Syd has asked that you be reasigned to another agent. She wants another handler."
"What!?!?" Vaughn was going crazy. "No..."
"Don't fight this man." Weiss said cooly. "It's for the best. Sydney can't stand seeing you anymore, she can't take it knowing you're with Alice. Do you really want to hurt her anymore? You weren't there today, because of Alice. You know Syd, she doesn't like being 2nd best to anyone, especially to Alice. Please don't make her suffer anymore..."
"I gotta go, i'll see ya tomorrow." Vaughn went numb. Everything he said was true. Sydney wasn't second she was first. But then why did he act like she was? He dialed Sydney's number -ring ring- no answer. Where could she be? Oh yeah.... suddenly Vaughn knew the answer.

Sorry, I never read this story before, but I like it. Expect why isn't Vaughn saying no to Alice. He doesn't love alice, he loves Syd. He's being a jerk for keeping them both like this. He needs to say no to alice, and go make it up to syd, if she takes him back. Grea story though, keep it up
