[flashback]
Restaurant from the episode ‘The Getaway.’ (kinda revised a little)
“Playing pool, I can see it.” Sydney said looking deeply into his eyes.
“We should play sometime.” Vaughn said he was imagining her on the pool table in lingerie summoning him over.
“That would be fun,” Sydney said. Her eyes gleamed with sadness. Every time they set foot into public they were at a risk, when would we ever get a chance to do that she thought.
“That will be the first thing we do when SD6 is destroyed okay?” Vaughn said caringly. “I know a great place, it’s about three blocks from the warehouse, and it’s called the Corner Pocket. The second we get a free chance after SD-6 is gone, we’re heading straight there.”
“It’s a date,” Sydney said smiling, at least I’ll have something to look forward to she thought. “Then we’ll go for ice cream and to the beach.” She said laughing.
Then we’ll go to my place he thought.
[end flashback]
Vaughn veered to the right, he was going to the Corner Pocket. He was only about 5 minutes away. The entire drive over Vaughn thought about what he would say to her. He knew what he wanted to do, he wanted to kiss her and tell her how sorry he was for everything. Tell her it was over with Alice and he loved her. He pulled into the parking lot. He sighed heavily. He opened his door and braced himself. He was going to tell Sydney. He walked inside. He quickly skimmed the inside, until his eye caught something. In the corner he saw Weiss.
“Hey Eric, what are you doing here?” he said puzzled.
“Oh, so you don’t want me here?” Weiss said jokingly.
“No, I just thought…”
“You thought Syd would be here right?” he shot two balls into the corner pocket.
“Yeah…”
“Well she is here, she’s in the bathroom.” “So what’s this deal with Alice? I heard you got some play today…I’m open for more details…” Sydney began walking closer. Neither Vaughn nor Weiss saw her.
“What?” Vaughn said in a hushed tone. Sydney inched closer.
“Yeah, Alice called like 10 minutes ago. She was worried about you. She said you were uncomfortable in bed.” Weiss said teasingly.
“Uncomfortable?!” Vaughn said in shock.
“She wanted to know if you were seeing someone else… said you were yelling someone else’s name…if you get what I mean. So how was it anyw…” Weiss stopped unexpectedly. Vaughn turned around. Standing there was a broken hearted Sydney. She heard everything. Their was a discomfited silence.
“Look Syd…” Vaughn said desperately.
“No, don’t.” she was crying now.
“It’s not…” Sydney cut him off again.
“It’s not what I think huh? Is that right? So let me get this straight, you care about me, yet you’re engaged to Alice. You told me you would be there the day SD-6 was destroyed yet you went home to…to to” Sydney was at a loss for words, “To BANG your fiancée! You missed it all Vaughn! And now this, you’re seeing someone else, so whose name were you calling out in bed? Which old girlfriend was it?” She grabbed her jacket and began walking to the door. The tears stopped, she was just angry now. She thought it would have been a good excuse to miss the most important day of her life. But it wasn’t, he just went home to get laid.
“Wait Syd, let me tell you…”
“Don’t call me that. I can’t take your lies anymore. Address me as Agent Bristow and nothing more. I don’t want to be anything but professional with you, and tomorrow, that will end. Hey Mr. Vaughn, here’s an idea,” she said while walking toward him, “why don’t you sign Alice up for the C.I.A, then you two can have sex right in front of me, and make me feel even worse. On my desk, in the debriefing room, in my chair, on our lunch table, and in our warehouse, how does that sound?” Sydney poured her beer on his pants, “did that cool you down, you must be awfully hot because you’ve been in bed all day long with Alice.” Sydney Bristow walked out of the room and left Vaughn speechless.
“Whoa!” Weiss said. “She told you off good.” Weiss was laughing hysterically. “…hey and while you’re at it why don’t you and Alice have sex right here on this pool table…oh God that’s great.”
“Shut up!” Vaughn yelled.
“Well maybe if you would quit being an ass for all of 5 minutes you wouldn’t get something on you every time you go in public.” Vaughn looked down at his pants, they were soaked.
“Well if you wouldn’t have opened your big mouth about Alice…” Vaughn said irritably.
“Don’t you even blame this on me. You’re the one who screwed yourself into this mess. All I did was tell the truth, that’s more you can say.” Weiss took a deep breath.
“Sorry man, you’re right.” Vaughn looked down.
“Look Mike, let me ask you something. Do you love Sydney?”
“Well…”
“Yes or no.” Weiss said impatiently. “Do you love her?”
“Of course I do.” Vaughn gave a cute smile.
“More than Alice?” Vaughn had never really admitted the truth before.
“C’mon answer, there is nothing holding you back, just your conscious. Do you love her more than Alice?”
Vaughn thought no more SD-6 she’s there for the taking. That didn’t matter though, either way he loved Sydney more. “Yeah I do.”
“Than why the hell does Alice have a ring and Sydney doesn’t. Sounds like you got it backwards.” Weiss said energetically.
Never in his life had Vaughn heard it so simple. Weiss was right what was he thinking?
“I love her.’ Vaughn said. “I guess Alice was just a figment of my imagination since I knew I couldn’t have her with SD6 in all. Alice was the closet he could get to Sydney.” (She had the same birthday month.) This could have all been eluded if I woulda just told her how I felt he thought.
“One more question,” Weiss said taking a drink of his beer,” why are you still here and why aren’t you telling the person who matters the most this?” Vaughn darted out the door.

It was 9:00 now. Sydney was sitting across from the ice cream stand. It closed an hour ago. Behind she could hear the waves washing against the beach. It muffled her tears. She tried not to concentrate on Vaughn anymore. She had clearly misread his body language in the warehouse. The air was thick and it smelled of his shampoo. She hadn’t been on good terms with him for 3 days and it was killing her. She sobbed harder. Quit this she thought. You crying aren’t helping. Finally the tears subsided. She walked to the pier. This was the first place her and Vaughn had held hands. She remembered throwing her pager in the water. And she remembered him telling her she could call him any time. She wondered if this applied now. Her cell rang.
“Hello,” it was Francie. (the good one)
“Are you okay?” Francie asked.
“Yeah…I’ll be home in an hour. Okay, bye.”
Secretly she wished it were Vaughn. She could here his sexy cute voice.
“Hi,” Vaughn said walking up to the pier….
