Books turned movie.

Kara

eternally nostalgic
A lot of good books have been turned into movies, like LOTR, Harry Potter, Catch Me If You Can, Bridget Jones' Diary and tons more. Just wondering, do you prefer the movie to the book? Which book do you think SHOULD be made into a movie, but hasn't?

I sometimes prefer the book to the movie and vice versa. I like the Harry Potter books more than the movie, but I like the LOTR movies more than the books. I though Catch Me If You Can was better as a book, but that The Hours was better as a movie, it all depends. I think they should make a movie out of is A Snowflake in My Hand by Samantha Mooney.

hmm...it definitely depends. generally speaking though, i'm with the majority on this in that books are usually much better than the movie.

take bridget jones's diary, my FAVORITE book, as an example. even though helen fielding (the author) and andrew davies (the screenplay writer for the bbc's pride & prejudice) wrote the screenplay and even though colin firth and hugh grant co-starred in it, it just did NOT live up to the book. i was extremely disappointed. but then again, when it comes to most people's favorite books, they tend to think the movie is felgercarb.

i'm trying to think of what books made good movies, but i'm drawing a blank. the bbc's pride & prejudice was a GREAT adaptation of the novel, but that wasn't really a movie, it was a miniseries. but that's the only one i can really think of.

I think most books are better then the moive cuz a book can take you there like your living it (or maybe not...maybe I'm just weird) movies of books are just blah cz they cut some really good parts out in the movie that they describe in the book, but this is also coming from a hige reader and book lover!

I agree!! The books are usually better than the movies but they did an excellent job with Lord of th Rings!! :D

It really depends on the book and the movie and the type of reader you are. Personally I thought Harry Potter should've been left as a book. LOTR was an awsome movie, all of my best praises to Peter Jackson, but i dont' think anything can out do Tolkien the books were just more descriptive. um... I've actually never read A Walk to remember, i Like to but the movie made me cry so badly. haven't really read any other books that's been turned into a movie or vise versa. and have no clue what book should be turned into a movie.

I prefer the books to the movies though I do enjoy the movies, I just enjoy the books more. (I thought they did a good job with both HP and LOTR.)

of course i prefer books to movies. books fill you with such emotion and attachment to the characters that movies try to and sometimes achieve but not to the extent of books. mystery chick, the book of walk to remember was ten times better than the movie, i loved it! and even though i never read the books to lotr i really enjoyed the movies and tried to read them but i couldnt get into it,sorry i know i shouldnt be saying that knowing the lotr fans here!lol
i think hp should have stayed as books as well, even though i do like the movies i dont think that the hp they picked was right, IMO he doesnt do hp justice at all, i htought he was terrible but once again my opinion.
i really want the nanny diaries to come to a movie(which it is!!!thats exciting!)but i dont know if it will have the comedy that was in it, bc most of the funniest parts were her commenting on what was going on, much with brigdets jone's diary and confessions of a shopaholic!

I agree that the books are better. The movie sort-of ruins the book for me, I mean, you envision how everyone looks in your mind, the setting, and everything, then you see the movie. When you go back and read the book, it's hard to picture the characters and setting the way you did before you saw the movie.

oddly enough when i saw the hp movies they didnt take away my image of it, i still see what i envisioned, and i hope that it will stay that way, hoping!LOL

Movie :D

I don't like reading. I have read a few good books that I really liked, but there's just too much to read that doesn't have much to do with the plot. Or it's just plain boring. But movies either cut out the boring stuff or make the boring stuff intersting.

:D

oh, we were talking about some classics in another topic, and victoria just reminded me of something - emma (gwyneth paltrow vesion) and sense & sensibility (emma thompson version) were pretty good adaptations of the novels. maybe it's just easier to make movies out of classics. or maybe it's just jane austen novels. ;)

I personally think that they totally killed Harry Potter when they turned it into a movie. THat was horrible. I like the books more, I just think that when they turn it into movies, they have to cut out some great parts of the books. I don't know what books they should make into movies. Maybe the fingerprints series. YOU ALL SHOULD GO READ THOSE BOOKS!

I'm all about the books over the movies. There are so many wonderful books out there that just get destroyed when turned into a movie. I don't know why, but no one can ever seem to bring them to the screen without changing or wrecking something.

she is SO right!!!!!!!!! I almost always perfer the book rarley do I perfer the movie@!!!!!!!!!! :D

The Anne of Green Gables movies were actually really good. I haven't seen the Little Women movie, but I would love to so much. I read Tuck Everlasting before it came out in the movies, and loved both the book and the movie. A Ring of Endless Light was turned into a Disney show which I watched, and didn't like. Oh and Sarah Plain and Tall is a nice movie, almost as good as the book. A Little Princess the movie turned out good also.
