China Pyramids

Hmm, weird. There doesn't appear to be much plant growth on them from seed/pollen transfer from the lush farming round them. Is someone mining in the area or something? Dumping the unusable earth in nice sculpted pyramid shapes that seem pleasing to the eye, as compared to horrible quarries that look like a gash in the landscape till people sculpt them into usable areas?
