college clique

heh, well, my mom moved WITH me to my school so that I wouldn't be too far from her. ;)

We're working on her not coming with me when I move to Cali in a couple of years. ;)

I thought about colleges in Britain and France. And for freshman year, I applied early to Vassar, in upstate-ish NY, so that would have been kinda far away, but, of course, I didn't get in. I thought about transferring far far away for next year, but I'm just not ready yet. I get sick a lot, so I like to be able to come home and rest in my own bed (even though my house is louder than a dorm). But grad school will probably be either on the east or west coast, depends on how sick I get of the cold weather.

 wow, i couldn't even imagine my parents moving to san diego with me!!

trust me, it's not the best arrangement in the universe, but at least I don't have to pay rent or for food, so I guess it's not too bad.

and side note, is this site slow for anyone else tonight?

well i started a topic in the member lounge titled "Squirrel myth"...you can see what i mean there lol! I started it a little bit already but i think its dumb...its just sort of rambled stuff that i ned to make into a story

that's true. the free rent and food is definitely appealing. trust me, you begin to appreciate stuff like that a lot more when you've been eating horrible dorm food for a couple years. -_-

and yes, the site has been REALLY slow for me tonight. i've had to refresh it like a bazillion times because that error message popped up every other time i clicked on another topic.

whew, k good. I thought it was my comp there for a sec. It's taking me forever to get into any topic here tonight.

But yeah, and especially since I've seen the dorms here at my school, I am SO happy I can live at home. The whole curfew thing sucks though, but at least I can actually save some money once in awhile for all my shopping trips! ;)

My mom said that if I go to the east coast for school, she's coming with me. Hey, if she's going to cook and I don't have to live with a bunch of loud people, I'm all for it. And it is all about the free food... I learned that lesson last year, though my college did cards with food points, and I ended up with 300 extra points at the end of the year.

And the site has been really slow for me too. It usually is.

The comm. college I'm going to works on quarters. Augustana (the college I went to last year) works on trimesters, which is basically the same thing as quarters, as far as I can tell, but for some reason it's still a little different. I keep transferring to all these schools with different systems, and now all I can do is hope that, next year, I will actually have junior status! I like trimesters/quarters though... you take 3 or 4 classes at a time. It's still a lot of work, but I feel more focused.

yeah... i'm on the quarter system here. there's pros and cons to both though. the major con for the quarter system is that everything is so rushed. you start the quarter and BAM - the first midterm just creeps up on you out of nowhere. the weeks really do fly by when you're on the quarter system. but on the semester system, you've got more time to really take in your classes.

still though, i like the quarter system. i hate feeling rushed, but then again, there's the idea that if you're stuck in a class you don't like, you'll be out of it soon. :D and i don't know, i think if i was on the semester system, i'd feel like time was dragging. plus, on the semester system, you've gotta study over breaks (thanksgiving, spring break, etc) which totally sucks.

I guess we're on the semester system because we do fall, winter, spring and summer. The main ones are the fall and winter ones, and they're each 4 months.

However, with the quarter/trimester system, classes are generally longer. My Japanese class meets everyday for 50 minutes, but my sex, gender, and power (VERY cool class) meets twice a week, from noon to 2:20. My art class, which also meets twice a week, runs for almost 3 hours... but since it's an art class, it's not that bad. At Augustana, classes met Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or Tuesday, Thursday. Sometimes, those classes lasted forever! But I definately like that better than taking 5 classes in one semester.

I almost done with my first year at Appalachain State University in Boone NC. I"m a history major and a poli sci major. We are on the semester sysytem and at the end of this one, I'll have 40 hours. I love it up here. Can't believe I am almost a quater done with college

that's true. my classes are all pretty long. most psych classes meet on tuesdays and thursdays for about an hour and twenty minutes each.

the quarter system here is ten weeks long (about three months) not including finals week.

Same with my college. Trimesters at Augie were 9 weeks, not including finals week.

Last year, at Augie, the psych classes that I took were both 2 hrs and 20 minutes long, twice a week. Brain and behavior at 8 am until 10:20 was definately NOT cool.

NC! I thought about transferring to Duke... but then I woke up and remembered that my grades aren't THAT good. I've never been to NC, but it sounds great. And a year at college really does seem to fly by.

I got an invitation in the mail to some honors awards banquet at comm. college, but I don't know if I'm going to go. I just don't know anyone here, and I'd feel so awkward by myself... I think I'm going to see if a kid in my Japanese class, Dave, is going. I shouldn't ask him 'cause it'll insinuate that I want to GO with him, but oh well. I'm bad. Sorry, that was kinda random.

hey, we're in the random thread, so whatever! :D

i'm taking a psych class this quarter that's three hours long once a week. and it's at 9 am. that's just a tad too early for me. the worse part is that the lecture is in a theater where the seats are so nice and plush that they're just ASKING you to fall asleep. i always buy a jamba before i go to class and whenever i feel myself nodding off, i take a big sip of it.
