Has anyone noticed how Sydney seems slightly distant from Vaughn lately? She accuses him of being condescending, she doesn't want to talk to him when she's suffering over Emily ... and I have a sense that she's holding back slightly. (It was his idea to reheat their dinner.) Even the exchange several episodes ago about calling him by his last name implies that distance. I know that JJ Abrams likes triangles (Felicity was organized around them) which I thought he was setting up with Lennox in Double Agent. Now it's true that there is literally no man in this series who doesn't love Sydney (and most are in love with her), but what about Sydney's capacity to love? I thought Danny was deliberately written as slightly whiney and narcissistic -- Will's empathy for her struggle to live a double life when he found out her secret was a direct contrast with Danny's self-indulgent voice mail. But the question is: why choose Danny? Does she prefer emotionally unavailable men like, say, her father? Is Vaughn too present, too emotional for her to feel comfortable?
