I Believe In Extraterrestrial Life: Intelligent beings, Plants & Animals

I hope I get to meet a few friendly outworlder races and they let me ride inside their space craft to tour Earth's solar system.

I agree with what several people have already in that space is so huge, with so many possible scenarios, that other life must exist somewhere, right now, in my opinion. It may not be a form of life we would recognize, perhaps even beings that really do exist simply as conciousness. Who knows? But if I was asked to put a bet on whether or not there is at least one other example of life in the universe apart from those which exist on Earth, I would definitely have my money on 'Yes'.

of course. When the day happens that we do encounter aliens and make contact I wanna see religion buckle in half.

So guys, you were bought!

"hello" said Pollyanna03
Is this a genuine ET contact, I wonder?

example: THEY COULD LOOK MEAN, AND BE FRIENDLY

OR LOOK INNOCENT AND BE EVIL-MINDED

Well, I still haven't gotten a ride yet in a space craft from elsewhere yet. I can wait.

Anyways, I hope perhaps one day an alien race helps us to settle our worldwide problems and excell us into a positive and spiritual direction.......................unless GOD does that first.

I think it's both arrogant and naive to believe we are the only intelligent life in the universe. Hundreds of years ago people thought the earth was the center of the universe and that everything revolved around us. Hmm... I guess there are still a lot of people who think they are the center of the universe.

We're hardly the centre of the universe: we're orbiting a very ordinary sun in the outer reaches of a very ordinary galaxy among billions of other galaxies.

Is there other intelligent life in the universe? On the basis of statistical probability, there just has to be.

Has there been other intelligent life in this galaxy? Given that there are billions of stars, almost certainly.

Is there other intelligent life in this galaxy now? Possibly, possibly not. There's no evidence to go on.

Is there other intelligent life with an advanced technological civilisation in this galaxy now? Probably not - there's no sign of them.

Somewhat fuller reasons why I say "probably not" are here: http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/Fermi.htm

Yeah, I get the point and I agree to the possibilities of either way, with or without other intelligent life elsewhere.
I was mostly picking at the part where you said there's no sign of them. There's just so many ways we could have missed "signs" of them. But without any evidence one way or the other it's all conjecture. Anything is possible so who knows. The only way we will ever know for certain is if aliens land and say, "yep..there's life out there too". Otherwise if we just get a signal of some sort, there will always be those that say it's fraudulent.

There is another possiblity though as well thats been overlooked thus far. Maybe evidence has been found and/or contact has been made but we in the public don't know it????????

I'd be careful with that, science has had it's share of problems as well. Science has yet to cure the common cold..why would you believe when science says there's no proof of intelligent life off this planet? There's no proof that you KNOW of.
Call it "splitting hairs" if you want, but does that mean splitting folicle based Keratin or "splitting rabbits".:D

Science doesn't deal with "proof" - that's a mathematical (or legal) concept. Science is about developing theories which best fit observations of phenomena.

Nobody has yet observed any signs of intelligent life off this planet (or any life, for that matter). Therefore, science doesn't have much to say about the subject. All that scientists can do is to speculate on the basis of observations of the number and characteristics of planets observed orbiting other stars.

As far as believing in the effectiveness of the scientific method is concerned: well, if it weren't for that, we'd still be living in caves and throwing stones at dangerous animals...

I think there well may be life out there, not as sure if there is intelligent life though? I am even less convinced that we will ever find either due to the vast distances involved.

I'm not sure we can look at our own planet and conclude that because life here can survive in all kinds of environments it can do the same elsewhere. remember that life here started under certain conditions and evolved into what we have now. Because certain life may now thrive in the most inhospitable of places doesn't mean it could necessarily have begun there.

Personally I hope we find life, but I really hope we never meet intelligent life, unless they are backwards in comparison to us.
