Overview: Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the near future. Specifically, 25 years after "The Extinction War," when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas.
Dominion (SyFy)

Based on the 2010 film Legion, SyFy is working on a new series, Dominion, that will be a sequel to the film.

Dominion is a post-apocalyptic supernatural drama set in the year 25 A.E. when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel, and a rebellious young soldier begins a perilous journey as the war between the human race and the fallen angels escalates.

I have watched the first two episodes so far and it isn't bad. I was expecting it to be a lot more 'gore' oriented when instead it actually reminds me a bit of David Lynch's adaption of Dune.

Based on the movie, the series takes place about 25 years after angels, led by Gabriel, have nearly exterminated mankind. The war never really ended as much as the losses on both sides left so few survivors that they have more or less secluded themselves into their own parts of a devastated Earth. Humans, aided by the angel Michael, are holed up in mega-cities that are the last pockets of civilization. The mega-cities are ruled by "Houses" that are separated by family lines. There are houses based on military, religion, and even gender (all women). The Houses have become complacent and spend time working as much as against each other as they do the angels. With the factor of the angels involved there is a thin-line between politics and religion to the point where the two nearly become one & the same. A 'Chosen One' is destined to lead & unite mankind in the war that is about to start back up again.

The reason for the angels anger is the same as we've see in other works -- Gabriel and others are angry at their 'father' because he has chosen his creation, humans, over them and for that they vow to destroy humans until the day their father returns so the gates to the holy kingdom are opened up to them. It is heavy stuff at times. Odd as it may sound, watching the movie Dogma would act as a nice introduction to the mythology before watching Dominion.

There are some risque scenes and SyFy gives plenty of warnings that the show contains nudity, violence, and mature themes.

If you are looking for a straight horror series with blood & gore then you might not like Dominion. By contrast if you like dark dramas with a bit of intrigue then give it a shot.

I might be the only one watching it around here :barefoot: but Dominion has been renewed today by SyFy for a second season.

You guys/gals should give it a viewing if you haven't already.

I watched Dominion.
Glad to hear it has been renewed.

Think it's a solid show. Not an all-time favourite perhaps but still well worth watching.

Not impressed to be honest, got through the first half of season one then the siren call of Walking Dead kicked in and didn't bother going back for the rest of the season

It's one of those shows that if you watch through it grows on you a bit, otherwise at first glance it's slow pace can be a boring. If you're really bored (I mean really, really bored :D), stick in your queue to give it another shot. If nothing else the mythology can be interesting at times.

Dominion has been cancelled and won't be back for a 3rd season. It's unlikely to be picked up by any other networks with its low ratings.
