Sci-Fi Donnie Darko

ok ok...i know that most never heard of Donnie Darko, so i'll run it by you guys. A kid lives life a little on the edge, he sees a rabbit who tells him the world is gonna end and he must kill and burn a few things before it happens. If anyone has seen this great classic movie and would like to put in their two cents please feel free to c'mon in and lets talk eh.

I've seen parts of it several times on tv and I finally just went out and bought the DVD so I could see the whole movie and it was...confusing. But definitely a very interesting and entertaining movie. Was it ever in theaters? Cause it sounds like a movie that I would've gone to see but I just can't remember it ever being in theaters.

i just bought it at HMV yesterday for $5! lol i was so happy. i have seen this movie many times.. and it is just one that you can watch over and over again. each time i realize something new. i think the one reason i like it so much is that it allows each person to draw their own conclusions. i kind of wish i bought the dvd though because it has director commentary and stuff.

i really think it is an amazing movie. it is one of those ones that you will either not get and hate, or understand and love.

has anyone else seen it? what did you think??

and also.. has anyone else been to www.donniedarko.com? and if so, how do you get past the part that says "time is up, donnie." (or is that the end?) and how do you get into the part where you can read the "Philosophies of Time Travel" book?

I love this movie, it's one of those rare gems that mixes every movie genre ever and it does it very well. And, I've never been to the website, but now that you mention it I shall take a stab at it.

hey. sweet. let me know how far you get.

i got a little bit farther today. i kept thinking the level 2 password was "smurf", but then i figured out what it really was lol

now i'm stuck after the "who found the wallet" part.. haha. if you know what i'm talking about.. help would be excellent :D

Well, ling ling found the wallet, and I got to the part with two guys talking about where the airplane engine came from then it cuts out and says "time is up donnie." And I've clicked on everything and nothing has happened so I guess that is the end.

yeah i got to the time is up part too.. what did you use for the code to level 3? the thing about the flower? cuz i put rose and it worked.. but he lived on powderham st. (i think).

ok.. so i put ling ling.. and then i get to the article about the wife taking over the "love and fear" guy's company.. and then i get to a screen and it has a date in the bottom.. and there is nothing else to click.

i'm so confused haha

Blah, websites like this kill me, espeesh, when I think we used two completly different routes, this is making my brain hurt almost as much as the first time I saw the movie, at least it's a good hurt.

Only reason I've heard of this is because of the song "Mad World" that they play on the radio constantly

Have no idea what the movies about

oh god.. i can't even describe what it is about.. it is such a "take from it waht you will" tyope of movie.. and it's better if you draw your own conclusions than if someone tells you.
um.. it's about Donnie.. a teenager with emotional problems and the journey (haha journey) he goes through.
yeah.. not good at summarizing :P. but i really recommend it.. it is so good!
and i LOVE the song mad world!

The movie is about how your actions have a ripple effect on everyone around you, no matter how small or self-serving you think those actions are. It is chaos theory personified.

I have seen this movie like 10 times and I love it more each time. Here in Boston there is a stage adaptation playing, but so far I haven;t fuond anyone who wants to see it with me, so I might have to go at it alone. ;)

wow.. ok that was a very good summary! lol thanks!

if i was in boston is would go with yah.. but sadly i am not :(

Thanks. :P

I think no one wants to see it with because they fear it will be lame. I too have these seems fears, but I think it would be interesting to see on the stage.

i read an interesting essay about donnie darko - which made it not about chaos theory but about god and how all things are basically predeermined.
it was basically saying that in the beginning he was guided away by god and thus dodged the crash.............but at the end having seen that god excisted he accepted his death the second time around cos he knew god would take care of him. or something like that.

i'm not religious but the essay kinda made sense - i wish i had a link to post but i have no clue where i read it - maybe i'll go look.

i also like this
We came up with a number of scenarios, but our conclusion is that there just isn't enough information in the movie to draw a definite conclusion. And I don't think there was meant to be -- I felt like the goal was to raise questions, not give answers. We did agree that our confusion is probably meant to make us experience Donnie's confusion. I'm still not sure whether Donnie actually chose to go back and die in his bedroom. He was certainly at peace with it and knew that it would happen, but I don't know if he could have chosen otherwise. We also agreed that there was too much talk about God and free will for Frank not to be related to one or both of those concepts. It certainly seemed like there was depressingly little free will, since Frank knew what the end of the story would be. And I can't image why God would want to torment Donnie and make him flood the school. But then, I can't image why I'd think I could comprehend God's motivations for doing anything.

which was taken from Donnie Darko

Yes but everyone was effected by the actions of those around them.

Causes and effects are in the spoler tags for those who have not seen it.

<!--spoilerbs--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td>SPOILER </td></tr><tr><td id='SPOILER'><!--spoilerbe-->Donnie walking in his sleep and avoids tha crash which results in the school being damaged which results in the english teacher being fired. Donnie avoids that crash which resl**s in his telling off the health teacher, who turns to the motivational speaker for guidence who in turn is disvcovered to be pedophile which leads Donnie's mother and sister to get on the plan who's engine crashes through the house. <!--spoileres--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--spoileree-->

I do enjoy how the film lead to questions rather then answers. From my meek perspective I took Donnie's going back in time and dying as a self sacrafice because he had caused so many bad things to happen to those around him. Damn if you do damned if you don't.
