I think he gets into these obsessive stages where all he can think about is his job and money an power. At those times he gets to be really mean. It is like he goes insane or something
but he cannot honestly beleive that what he is doing is actually benefitting society. I mean he just gets power obsessed i think. That makes him act irrationally but he is rationalizing all his actions in his head
