I'm a Pennsylvanian and I know I won't forget him but what saddens me a little is that most people probably will.

I'm from Pennsylvania too and i know i won't forget him...it's sad that he didn't win it all. My mom competed in horse shows when she was young, if it wasn't for the many sports I do, I probably would be riding instead. Just 3 weeks ago my family was down in the outer banks with family friends. We went horseback riding and got to gallop on the beach! It was amazing! I really want to start riding regularly but i just don't have the time (n)

I ride. I show at a bunch of 'A' shows with my horse Primetime. We compete in the hunters. I've been riding since I was 4 (iam 14 now)... I have 3-4 lessons a week plus my own hacking. It's really great. Even better though, I don't have to pay for any of it. Spoiled, I know.. Oh well. My 'rents don't mind. Anyone else do the hunters?

What part of the country do you live in? If it's the northeast, I'm pretty familiar with the A circuit there. I never competed in A shows... a few Bs, mostly schooling shows, since I couldn't afford to do As... but the stable I used to ride at put in quite a few appearances.

I used to do hunters and eq, though my eq didn't really strengthen until a few years ago... I finally started riding with an instructor who yelled at me enough to change my position on the flat. I used to be sloppy on the flat but fantastic over jumps, so I got away with the subpar flatwork. And now I can't afford to ride. -_-

What hunter classes do you usually compete in? I started out riding in maiden classes (I started riding when I was 10 - I'm now 22 - and didn't start showing until I was 13 or so, so my instructors didn't want to put me in short stirrup with a bunch of lil kids) and eventually ended up in junior hunters, some random eq classes, and even some large pony hunter classes (I was never taller than 5' while I was at my "showing hey-day" so, even though I was 14-15, I rode ponies). Basically, I did whatever my instructors wanted.

Hey there.

I am from canada, (in response to the post above mine) so I do the thunderbird, spruce, bend oregon shows. I do the 2'6+2'9 hunters. Soon I will be getting a jumper and then I will be competing in the 'medal' classes.

Spruce Meadows! Never been there, but I saw some sort of special on TV about it, and wow. What a nice looking place.

Have you ever come down to the States to do the Ox Ridge charity show?

Good luck in the medal classes. ;) I used to have a few friends who competed in those... though they've long since graduated to adult A/A and jumpers.

What's your hunter like?

I ride! I compete a little bit, but I like to train... I currently own two horses. Quervo (my first horse), the love of my life, I've had him for three years. And then Diego, I got him june, 2005, he's a mustang yearling, I got him from the BLM. I also ride other peoples horses, train other peoples horses, etc. And no, it's not a sport...it's a way of life. lol.

OH MY GOD! A HORSE FORUM! I was sooo happy when I saw this. I am such a horse lover. My room has horses on every wall, my bed spread, my floor, my mirror, everywhere! I've been riding for four or five years now, and I'm 16 so it seems like a long time for me.

I used to ride a Saddlebred named Anna, and a Quarter horse named Whiskey, then I changed stables. There I rode a Quarter horse named Kozy then was tld to try out a horse that wasn't ridden in 12 years. She was a Percheron/Thoroughbred cross, size of a Percheron, speed of a racehorse. She hated everyone, except me. She tested me that whole night, but after that, the slightest touch of the leg to the side would send her off the rail into a diagonal across the ring. She was awesome.

Then I moved onto Sting, a Haflinger Pony. Once again, I got the stubborn horse everyone hated, except me. He just wanted a friend who didn't hit him or give up on him. I asked him to do things, not told him to. He would follow me everywhere. Once I went out to get him and his owner was like to someone, "Watch him now. He'll turn and run away and he'll keep doing that until he gets tired." I went right up to Sting and cliped on his lead rope. I went to the Haflinger Nationals with him to Ohio. 4th in barrels and 6th in English Pleasure in the first show. Then in the big one, 2nd in Western Pleasure! The best time of my life.

Now I'm at another stable. I ride Sunny (look at my user name). He's a paint that once again hates everyone. He hated me for a bit, but now we're buds. He still tries to get away with things, but gives into me more than he gives into his owner. I love that horse.

Gosh, am I glad I found this forum. :D

Wow. Long time since I have been on here... I have decided not to do the medal classes and continue with the hunters. I bought a new hunter in september and his name is Dante Decaro. We imported him from Holland and he is a 5 year old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Voltaire. He has been absolutely awesome and we will be competing this year in Indio, Pebble Beach, Spruce Meadows, Bend Oregon, Thunderbird, etc. I am currently training 5 times a week with Dante and my trainer and we will be competing in the Children's Hunter Divisions (3 foot). So yeah.. My other hunter (Primetime) and I just finished our season last year and we are leasing him out to ome people and my mom is riding him as well.

Sounds very nice. Voltaire... very classy! I wish you the best of luck!

A bit late, but welcome to the boards, SunnyKnowsBest! The last horse I fell off of was named Sunny... an obnoxious Arabian who had a penchant for turning out at jumps. I had the problem of leaning forward before jumps (which has now been cured, thank you very much).

I haven't ridden in three years or so. I miss it SO much. But I have no money. I do have a friend who is a riding instructor at a stable, and she needs someone to exercise her ponies, so hopefully I will be able to go visit her soon.

Yep. I'm 22 and still a pony rider.
