Fiddler on the Roof

Nobody's posted this yet? The article that we have a link to says Victor Garber will be playing Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" for a Storyline/Disney production (TV movie). OK, so their first choice was Billy Crystal ... I bet Victor's voice is better. Here's the link again. It's right above "New Ventures." I understand that they consider Victor their "good luck charm" because he appeared in "Annie" and "Cinderella" (I guess they did the Judy Garland project as well), so they cast him in "The Music Man" as well.

As I posted before it was so rudely deleted (along with masses of other stuff), this production was postponed due to insurance problems! To which I said, as I recall, "Oh, felgercarb!" But it's good to know that Mr Garber will be well out of harm's way.

Sorry, they were type-cast; casting Mr Garber is casting an actor in the role. I'm keeping an open mind.

i just cant see him as tevya being jewish myself, and it is like seeing the al budny guy play dragnet--he cant do it very well

Interesting. I'm still keeping an open mind. Personally, as a Christian, I don't think it would bother me too much to see a good Jewish actor play Jesus (after all, he was Jewish, why not), a pope, or other character whose Christian religion was important to the story. I have no idea what religion Max von Sydow is, but I thought he was not terribly good as Jesus (The Greatest Story Ever Told), but then his performance was just one of miriad problems with that film. If you had to be like the role that you play, I don't think that Mr Garber would ever have been cast as Jack Bristow . . . (Not that I know anything about him, but he sure smiles a lot more than his character . . .)

I think Fiddler on the Roof will be great ! Victor Garber has done really well in all the other Disney musicals - so I don't see why he'd be so bad as Tevye. My school put on that musical a year ago - and even though it's a little sad - it has some great music in it and I have a feeling it should turn out really well.
