Forbidden Planet paintings and drawings

This painting of Adams and Morbius was done from a 35mm slide I took right off the movie screen when Forbidden Planet was shown at an "art house" theater in Atlanta. A group of friends and I took over 300 slides from the movie.

This painting was done from a black & white still from the movie. Robby was shaking hands with Cookie in the photo, so I had to change his right arm a bit.

Each of these poses of Warren Stevens were also done from slides taken directly from the movie screen.

The publicity shot I used for the drawing below is so good I think it's just as much a work of art as my humble drawing. In fact, it took me several attempts to get it right. I kept screwing up Altaira's nose. The drawings below it were all done from B&W publicity shots.

This drawing was done as a preliminary sketch for a painting I never did, based on the familiar color 8X10 glossy. The original is pretty pale, so I had to adjust the contrast considerably with my computer.

And these are just robot designs I did for the fun of it. The next two drawings were done with gel pens. The originals actually look metallic because of the ink!

I added these two drawings just for fun the night of the Super Bowl (2012) when I started thinking how much fun it would be if football and baseball players were robots.

Bud, that is some great work! I absolutely love seeing original works inspired by old classics like Forbidden Planet.

The robot shots are cool; I like the first one in particular, with the 'fins' at the shoulders & hips it has a bit of a retro feel to it.

I don't know why some of the jpegs above have stopped working, and I no longer have a edit button on that post so I can fix it.

Here are first two missing ones and the two at the bottom (combined into one). Perhaps a site admin can use these url's to fix the post. I'll add the missing jpeg below the first two above after I fix a problem with it.

These are great artwork. I have something myself: a full length "prequel" to Forbidden Planet that explains what happened before Adams and his crew landed. I wrote it over a 3 year period. Is there any interest to review it?

Cadet ScrolGloambug9ls here, if you drawing and sketching these from a slide by hand then I’m impressed, amazing grasp of shading, from a audio artist to a visual artist, labor of love.
