Even if it meant losing one of my closest friends.
Think about the scene that just went on. I can't post until really late later, but I promise more will go up tonight.

Ch. 7- Rainy Days and Mondays

“Alright, let’s think. Where would they have taken her?” Mike was thinking out loud, but I really couldn’t understand what he was saying.

“Sydney! Syd! You have to stay with me! I need your help on this!”

“Okay, um… do we still have a list of Sark’s warehouses?” I said vaguely, trying to snap out of it.

“Yeah, they are in the database. I’ll have one of the guys bring it up.” He left my side briefly to stand up and talk to one of the agents standing nearby. After Derevko left, security section found their way down to the nursery. He soon squatted down next to me again, however.

“We’ve got an agent down over here!” I looked up and I saw a familiar face lying on the floor. The agent next to the person checked his pulse.

“He’s gone.”

Funerals are never fun. They are a lot of work, a lot of planning, and people expect you to either grieve and let it all out or be strong for everyone else who is allowed to grieve. No one knows how you are really feeling. I scheduled his funeral for Monday. Coincidentally, it rained that day. Francie came with Weiss (they were dating by then) and Mike briefly stopped in. I had to stay because I was the hostess, but Mike spent every waking moment at CIA headquarters, keeping up the search for Jackie. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t leave one of my best friends on his day of remembrance.

Okay, somewhere on this site is my guardian angel b/c that nice person had this chap saved so they were able to save me. I'll have chap. eight up in a few minutes, just to finish up with the story, but I just wanted to thank that person once again!

So, here it is. The last installment. Make sure to keep this thread alive by telling your friends about this story! (Unless you get abducted by aliens or :ninja: ninjas, whichever comes first!)

Ch. 8- The Impossible

There's times in life you don't want to remember. It's too tough. After Will's funeral, the search for Jackie continued. We were starting to lose hope we would ever find her, considering there was proof my mother had left the country. My dad must have been looking out for us though, because sometimes events happen which just can't be explained.

So don't tell me that it's over,
Don't give up on you and me,
Because there's no such thing as hopeless
If you believe
Unsinkable ships, sink
Unbreakable walls, break
Sometimes the things you think would never happen
Happen just like that
Unbendable steel, bends
If the fury of the wind, is unstoppable
I've learned to never underestimate
The impossible.

Syd POV
"Do we have any leads?" I huffed into the intel center, over to one of the tech agents on Jackie's trail. When I get my hands on Mike, he's dead. I haven't slept in two days, looking for Jackie, and he slipped a sleeping pill in my coffee. I've been out for almost three hours.

"We're- well, do you want to hear what you want to hear or the truth?"

I shake my head. "I... just tell me what we know."

"Okay, well, we know your mother has definitely left the country. We got her picture at LAX about, oh, two hours ago."

"Why wasn't I told!" It was more a statement than a question. I was pretty sure I knew the answer.

"We actually had a team at LAX, ready to mobilize at the first sign, but when they went after her, it was like she had disappeared into thin air."

"Did you sweep the airport? Check anyone who might even remotely look like her?"

"Of course, Agent Bri- Vau- Bristow." This guy was obviously new.

"Alright," I said, trying to regain my composure before I throttled this guy, "I'm going to find Agent Vaughn, so update me the instant we know anything. Got it?"

He nodded his head nervously. He could tell I was pissed.

"Good." I walked away, pushing past everyone as I retreated to the employee's lounge. I had a hunch I would find Mike there.

"Syd! What are you doing here? You're supposed to be asle- never mind."

"No, go ahead, say it. Asleep! Because you slipped me a sleeping pill! Why, Mike? You know how important this investigation is to me!"

He shook his head at me, closing his eyes in exasperation.

"Sydney, when you used to do missions, you made sure you were at the top of your game each time, right?"

"Sydney, when you used to do missions, you made sure you were at the top of your game each time, right?" I knew where he was going with this, but I wasn't going to let him win that easily.

"I guess."

"You got sleep, you ate, you made sure you were in top condition?"

"Mike, I need to know if and when we find them."

"I know. But we're still working on it, so I felt it was necessary and alright for you to get some sleep. You're already feeling better, right?"

"No, I'm no-"

"Agents, I'm sorry to interrupt, but you might want to take a look at this." We exchanged scared glances, and jogged out behind the tech guy.

"We just found this email. I have no idea where it came from because- and here's the weird part- it didn't come from anywhere."

"What are you talking about?" I wondered what kind of game this guy was trying to play.

"I mean, either the sender is the ultimate creator and controller of the entire internet or ... it's something else."

"Let's read it." I was eager to see if someone had sent us some information about Jackie. After waiting a few minutes, it finally opened.

She's headed for Russia. Her hometown, Zapolic. Get there in twenty-four hours, before she does.

"How do we know if this is legit?" Mike turned to me, those wrinkles making their hourly appearance.

"We don't. But it's the only lead we have, and we have to act on it." I wasn't going to let this one go so easily.

"Alright. We'll have a team ready to leave in three hours." Weiss strode up to us, looking as stressed as I felt.

"Thank you."

"Go home and pack, we'll call you guys with the rest of the information," he said, looking at Mike. Without another word, he steered me towards the exit and before I knew it, we were driving to the house.

"Mike? What if we don't get to her in time?" I said, tears welling up in my eyes.

"Don't worry. We'll get there. I just need you to hang in there and be strong for me."

"Okay." I rubbed my eyes and stared straight ahead at the road until we got home.

Two Hours Later
"Hey, Syd, how are you?" Weiss tapped me gently on the shoulder and took the empty seat opposite me. Mike was already asleep, so I put my finger to my lips to quiet him.

"How do you think I am?" I whisper through unshed tears freshly springing to my eyes.

"Hey, we're gonna do this. Don't you worry. Your moth- I mean Derevko will be executed before you know it. Okay?"

"Weiss- why did you ever forgive me?"

"For what?"

"For everything that happened between us those few days when we weren't speaking."

"Oh, that. Well, I resolved myself to the fact you were marrying my best friend. I guess I instigated our little fight because I was afraid he wouldn't be the same. But I was wrong. He hasn't been the same since the day he met you."

"Really?" For the first time in days, I smiled.

"Yeah. You coming into his life was probably one of the best things that ever happened to him. Anyways, I realized I was jealous of your position in his life, so I thought I could drive you away. I didn't realize until afterwards what a huge mistake that would be. I thought I was saving him if you would have left, but it would have ultimately killed him. You are the single most important thing in his life- unless you mind sharing that spot with Jackie?"

"No, not at all. Thanks for telling me this, Weiss. It helped."

That was the longest plane ride I had ever been on. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't concentrate. All I could think about was getting Jackie back.

Zapolic, Russia
"Wow, that was one of the bumpiest car rides I've ever been on," Weiss exclaimed as he sat in his chair at our makeshift comm center.

"Well, they don't exactly use asphalt here, now do they?" Mike was back to being a smart ass. "Wait, we've got something."

There was a car similar to the one we had been in coming down the street. It was midnight and dark, so we couldn't see much, but I could make out a woman holding a child and a man standing next to her. They quickly got in the house the car parked in front of and shut the door.

"Alright, let's move in!" Mike ordered, grabbing his gun. I followed, grabbing my own.

"One, two... three!" The door flew open as over 20 CIA agents filed inside the miniscule house.

"Hands where I can see them!" Weiss, Mike and I pointed our guns at my mother who had Jackie asleep on her lap.

"Everyone drop your guns!" Another CIA agent, the actual leader of the team, shouted at the rest of the men in the room, including Sark. Once we had all their guns, they were all handcuffed and put under tight security until backup came. After Derevko was cuffed, I got Jackie, who had woken up half way through the raid.

"Mommy, I was scared."

"I know, sweetheart. So was I."

"That bad lady said she was my gramma. Was she?" Jackie looked at me, ready to cry. I beat her to it, the tears flowing steadily from my eyes.

"She used to be your grandmother. But she isn't anymore." I felt arms slide around me and Jackie as Mike pulled us into a hug. He kissed the top of her head, then asked her how she was doing.

"I'm fine, daddy. But I missed you. I love you daddy. I love you mommy."

So that was it. We brought Jackie home, safe and sound, and my mother was soon after executed. I don't think my father would have minded her execution, but then, thanks to her, I'll never know much more about him than I did before Mike and I were married. I'm a teacher, though I still do some work for the CIA from time to time. Francie's restaurant is franchising, and she's already got three here in California, two in Nevada, and two in Colorado. Mike is as wonderful as he has always been, and I make sure to visit the cemetery every week, bringing one white rose for Will, one red one for Danny. I don't bring my Dad any because I don't think he would appreciate them, so instead I just bring Jackie. I believe this was where I was supposed to end up. Happy, with a loving husband, a smart, beautiful daughter, and another one on the way. Living a normal life, just like I always wanted.
