Chapter 10
Sydney woke up. She was tied to a chair. She groaned. Her head hurt so badly. She saw another figure across the room, tied up as well. Sydney figured it was Vaughn. "Vaughn, is that you?"
"Yes, Adrianne dear." Vaughn said sarcastically. He lowered his voice to a whisper. "Somehow Lefèvre knew we were coming! Do you still have your purse?"
"No, I don’t even know where we are!"
"Well, all I know is that we have to get out of here!"
Sydney looked at him funny, "Well no duh!"
Vaughn raised his eyebrows. "Well I’m sorry if I’m not doing enough! It’s not like I can do much being tied to a chair and all."
"Oh, how sweet. The Eatons are fighting!" Lefèvre walked in the room. "Did you really think you’d get away with stealing my clock? I don’t think so."
Lefèvre snapped his fingers. The 2 guards that had knocked Sydney out, walked in carrying 2 buckets full of water. "Well, if you won’t tell me who you are working for, you’ll have to pay the price."
The guards placed one bucket in front of Vaughn and Sydney. "Ladies first!" One of the guards laughed. He untied Sydney and held her head over the bucket. She struggled to get away from him, but his hold on her was too tight.
"Well? It’s your last chance before your girlfriend here gets dumped." Lefèvre cackled evilly. Vaughn gave one look of sympathy to her.
"Well, I’ve suffered much worse than this!" Sydney murmured to herself. She took a deep breath and waited until her head was plunged into the bucket.
The water was ice cold. The guard brought her head up and didn’t even let her have a chance to take a breath before he dunked her again. He kept repeating the same thing over and over again. Vaughn had to look away. He couldn’t do anything to help her and he couldn’t bear to watch either.
Finally, the guard threw Sydney to the ground, leaving her weak, out of breath, and coughing up water. "Now your turn," Lefèvre said to Vaughn. The second guard did the same thing to Vaughn, over and over. Finally Lefèvre ordered his men to follow him out of the room.
"So, that wasn’t so bad, huh Syd?" Vaughn said, coughing up the last bit of water. "Syd?"
Sydney lay there motionless. Vaughn tried to get to his feet, but was still too weak. He rested for a few minutes then forced himself to get up. He went over to the window. They were on the third floor. He searched around the room and found a parachute. "Dumb Lefèvre obviously didn’t know how capable Michael Vaughn can be."
He pried the window open and started to grab Sydney, but then realized that they still needed the clock. He found her bag by the door. "Well we know now that Lefèvre is very dumb!" He grabbed the bag and Sydney. He heard voices outside in the hall.
"Come on Syd, wake up!" Vaughn slapped her cheeks lightly. "Oh man, this is not good." Vaughn put the harness on and strapped Sydney in too. He climbed up to the window and jumped out, releasing the parachute.
Back in the room, he heard Lefèvre and his guards yelling. They had obviously noticed that Sydney and Vaughn had left. Once they reached the ground, Vaughn carried Sydney as quickly as he could to the limo.
"Back to the hotel please, and step on it!" Vaughn called.
