I got this question from a new viewer a few days ago:
Why dosen't the CIA just storm SD-6 offices?

My response:
Because their goal is not only SD-6, but the entire Alliance of SD-1, SD-2, SD-3, etc. If they stormed SD-6, they wouldn't be able to get the other SD cells.

Response:
Well, then why don't they try to gain more info about the other divisions?

I couldn't really come up with a good response to this - surely, Jack Bristow could get more intel. Why has the idea of taking down SD-6 (and the rest of The Alliance) been less the main goal recently? Instead, just stopping SD-6 from gaining more information is taking on more importance. The only good reason I have is that it would ruin the show.

Can someone help me?

Yes, I know that it takes time, and that they are taking things slowly. Yet they should have been able to at least find out where SD-9 is

They do, but, currently, they do not have a double agent in the other SD divisions (at least not that we know of). I'm sure they get info about them, its just easiest to gain info about SD-6 because of Jack and Syd.

They do know where all of the SD's are, well, most of them. Remember that map at the begining of "So It Begins"?

I thought that was just an SD-6 map...

This is a quote from Alias: Declassified, page 101.

"A guiding point for the Alias writers was that the CIA cannot by law operate inside the United States. "You can't have the CIA just arresting people in the U.S., so that's where we'll bring in the other agencies, to maintain reality," Rick explained. "In "The Box", Agent Vaughn storms SD-6, which he really can't do, because he's on U.S. soil. I think everybody, [the writers] knew that, everyone here is so smart it makes my job easier. So we fudged that by showing that he did it without authorization and got in trouble for it, and secondly, that with the USA Patriot Act passed after 9/11, the CIA had been given the benefit of the doubt in certain situations."

So it sounds like maybe it's not legal for the CIA to take care of it, their job is just to gather information. And maybe the FBI and other agencies aren't comfortable attacking Americans until they feel they have complete information.
