Actually racehorses can be Quarter horses too... but usually when someone is talking about racehorses, they mean Thoroughbreds. They're my favorite breed... along with ponies, who are just so funny. TBs are just so much fun to ride...

i think racing is cruel and harsh. i could never imaginw whipping horses like that.

Look more into racing before making assumptions like that... racehorses usually (though there are sadly many exceptions...) are not treated cruel or harsh. Believe me, if they were, the ASPCA and the hooved animal society would put an end to it.

I love horses and I would never do anything to endanger them. I started riding when I was 10.

^_^ yeah I know, that's why i said actually, but I never got around to that

Gandalf's horse is a pair Adulsian(sp. i can never spell that right grrr) they alternate so they're not over worked. it's a spanish breed, they use them a lot at the Riding school in Vienna. but I just had to pick Arabian! they're so pretty, such a pretty form too. and line of their neck and back *faints* and if i hear anyone say somethng about making glue out of horses again I swear I'll knock some sense into them. My friends they were like haha, now they're going to the glue factory, and i just cover my ears and run away. pretty sad I know. but hey what can i say. if any one read Animal Farm at the end of it Boxer was sent to the slaughter house. I was like NOOOOOOO!!! you evil PIGS!!!! I Hate you all!!! hehe lol okay enough babbling. but Arabians rule!!!!

It's not sad!!! There are these guys at my school who say the same thing to me!!! And they would always be like, I had horse veal last night and it was gooood! Ugh... I'd either hit them or run off -_-

well really it depends there's physical characteristics of different breeds of horses. quarter horses have wide shoulders, short, wide head, small muzzle, fairly long and flexible neck. While horses like the arabian have a mroe graceful line, small heads, curving neck, with long sloping shoulder with well-defined withers. Throughbred is a mix of English mares and Arabian staillions, usually refined head, elegant neck, well-sloped shoulders, strong, muscular hindquarters (for the running. Warmblood generally refers to all horses that are light in the legs so not draught horses. But specific breeds like the swedish and Danish Warmblood have a well proportioned body, and long neck. Ponies must be under 14.2 hands, I have no idea what a Poa is. Paint are horses that have patches of white and usually a form of brown, they are suited for ranch work. Appaloosa are horse that are spotted with powerful hindquarters and strong limbs, with good hard feet. They are known for their gentlness. ya so i had some free time to read on horses. but i have a whole book on them i just don't really have time to look it up right now. :D hope that might be some help. and if you live in America, it's likely that your horse is registered for some type of horse breed. maybe you can check?

any ways for those of you who only watch horses races. yes the Belmont is Saturday. I'm so excited!!! we have another 'potential' triple crown winner, second year in a row. Funny Cide is up against a fairly small field of 6. 3 of which he have already face. two other that are new entries for the third leg of the Triple crown...

only 6 for the 135th Belmont Stakes

1 Empire Maker
Owner: Juddmonte Farms Inc.
Trainer: Robert Frankel
Jockey: Jerry Bailey
Morning Line: 6-5

2 Supervisor
Owner: Dr. Rodney G. Lundock
Trainer: Linda Rice
Jockey: John Velazquez
Morning Line: 50

3 Scrimshaw
Owner: Robert B. and Beverly J. Lewis
Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas
Jockey: Gary Stevens
Morning Line: 20

4 Funny Cide
Owner: Sackatoga Stables and Jackson Knowlton
Trainer: Barclay Tagg
Jockey: Jose Santos
Morning Line: 1

5 Dynever
Owner: Dr. Catherine Wills and Peter Karches
Trainer: Christophe Clement
Jockey: Edgar Prado
Morning Line: 5

6 Ten Most Wanted
Owner: J. Paul Reddam, Michael Jarvis, James Chisholm and Horizon Stable
Trainer: Wallace Dollase
Jockey: Pat Day
Morning Line: 10

Best Minister was pulled because he didn't take his feed and he coughed three times. Now most of the triple crown winners went up against a small field and a field of six is what I call small. I have a feeling that we might just have another triple crown winner here....

Ponies must be under 14.2 hands, I have no idea what a Poa is.

A Poa is a Pony of the Americas... they are kind of like mini-appaloosas. In my photo album here, click on the photo album "the horses"... the last picture (the one of me and Brando) is of a Poa... he was a reject and didn't have spots though.

Grrrr... my dad used to joke about horses and glue factories... made me soo mad! I mean, the stable I used to ride at burned down and all the horses died and he was like "oh, they all got sent to the glue factory."
And Gandalf's horse's breed is spelled Andalusian.

And spysurfer, if you can send me a pic of your horse, or post a link here or something, I can take a look and make a guess... I'm usually pretty good at it. I need a side view though, of all of the horse.

cool! if i were ever to buy a horse, id probably buy a retired race horse. most duds and retired ones do go to the slaughter house :'( . so sad. im saving up $$ to buy one.
Yeah, most of the horses I plan on having are going to come from rescue organizations and retired TB foundations.

And actually, horse slaughterhouses in the US have been completely diminished to I think one, which is in Texas. Unfortunately, many horses are being shipped up to Canada to be slaughtered, but we're all trying to put really really strict laws on trailering those poor horses, since that's where much of their pain comes from.

I've ridden a few ex-racehorses... I almost bought one... he was a dud on the racetrack. Which was hard to tell 'cause he was hyper and fast. My old stable had one ex-racehorse... gorgeous chestnut mare... who was actually a pretty good racehorse (she almost made it to the Breeders Cup) and a great show horse, except she was very high strung. At shows, we had to stuff cotton in her ears or she'd freak out. Ex-racehorses are great rides... they will totally take advantage of you if you don't know what you're doing, but if you do, they're sensitive and speedy and elegant.

i have ridden many ex race horses. they are the best! i like them because of all their energy. they are good for jumping and mostly have really good ground manners. thoroughbreds are some of my fav! i also love quarter horses and poas. i ride many types of horses. spysurfergrl247, if u send me a pic of your horse, i can find out what it is, like mandy said. so mandy, u know alot about horses? thats so cool. go to The Express Page if u want.
