I was wondering…

gone... completely... and i have a sneaking suspicion its because its in random. for some reason that forum just seems to get forgotten... maybe that was teh point?

i have no idea. maybe they just take the real popular over posted in threads and put them there so we don't spend all day in one thread and get our posts to skyrocket

well, i hate to be the voice of dissent here, but i think if it's too hard for people to go between the random area and member lounge, the easier solution would probably be to turn off post counts for the ENTIRE member lounge (including both sub-forums) rather than turn the post count on for the random area. i know that's sort of extreme but it can't be THAT difficult to click on another link to get to the random forum. and what some of you said is true - sometimes it can be difficult distinguishing between some of the member lounge threads and random threads; some member lounge threads can be pretty random and some random threads can have plenty of substantial posts.

okay, i don't know if that last paragraph made much sense, so let me try to clarify a bit more. yes, alias is done with for the summer and we talk about SOOO many other fairly important things (politics, schools, relationships, etc) but when it's all said and done, this is allalias and it's primarily an alias site.

and i can understand the logic behind having posts not count in threads that are random (where the posts are a lot more conversational - as in people saying "hi" and "bye" a lot, or only posting one word responses).

also, does it REALLY matter what your post count is? yes, i'll admit it's pretty fun and i get a little kick out of moving up the ranks, but that's not my primary motivation for posting. i post when i have something to say (although i'll admit to being guilty of getting random every now and then :angelic:)

anyway, that was my little (or not so little) shpiel. sorry if that was a bit rambly. i'm tired. and i hope too many people aren't cross with me.

oh, and the off topic games & quizzes is fine as it is. that forum is as random as you can get. ;)

see people always say that about hi and bye, but the truth is we actually dont say that very much...

and yeah, i dont get the thing about it beig hard to go between forums...

actually if we are in like say the french clique we always talk about french and most of the thread is in frencha dnhelp with french so we actually stay very on topic there

yeah, i was trying to say that too, i guess i was just saying it in an unnecessarily long-winded way. :D

and you're right, i've actually seen quite a few random threads more on topic than a lot of the member lounge threads.

so i guess what i meant was that i think either everything in this area should have posts count or none at all. i'd rather go for none at all, but that's just me. [but then again, you get into the issue of whether ALL non-alias topics shouldn't count or just the member lounge. so...i don't know anymore.]

Our big problem with the Random forum is that tons of new threads are started there everyday but they die immediately so its practically an archive of "could-of-been" threads. I agree with pretty much everything crazy spinster said. I think we should axe the Random Forum, start one big thread for all the cliques and random forums in the Member's Lounge (a new one would start every 25 pages to avoided the disappearing posts problem). Some cliques would remain separate though (German clique, French clique, etc) because you really can't combine those. They would also be moved to the member's lounge. Then, post count would be completely turned off in the member's lounge.

Another option would be to leave everything as it is now and then make the Random Forum a "post only" forum. Then, when someone wanted to create a new random thread or clique, they would need to PM one of the admins. If we approve of it, then we will make the thread.

Although this is primarily an Alias site (heck, it’s “All” Alias), I’ve always hoped that this community is stronger than Alias, or at least that it could be. What I mean is that even if Alias had been cancelled, we still could have thrived.

I fell that there can be some very productive and good non-Alias threads where your post count really should count.

As for merging the Random forum and Member Lounge, that would require almost all cliques being merged. Otherwise, the Member Lounge would get covered with cliques and it would become the random forum again.

Another thing is that we’ve introduced so many other “Beyond Alias” forums that the only topics left for Member Lounge are the most serious topics (the Iraq war thread topic, for example) and the most random topics, and it is kind of odd to have them together. Maybe we should introduce a “News and Issues” forum?

I completely understand why people want to have a higher post count, and that’s fine in most cases. In fact, I miss the TC and the “guy trouble” thread/poll. Those were good times.
