Remember though, the Random is also a place where cliques are to go to. I'm not sure exactly why it was moved because I don't recall ever moving it but that was probably the reason.SiriCerasi said:but the thing is a lot of USEFUL forums are getting moved to random, such as teh cat lovers. that was COMPLETELY on topic, no useless posts, no hi or byes, yet it was still moved there. im a little lost as to why that is random
Getting admin approval is a great idea because so many useless threads are being created.Tommy said:Yes, it seems the best way of doing things is to keep it the way it is now and tweak a few things if neccessary. (like getting admin approval before starting new topics in Random)
Erg!! I know!!! A lot of people start threads... just to start threads! It's so annoying!alias_fan said:Getting admin approval is a great idea because so many useless threads are being created.Tommy said:Yes, it seems the best way of doing things is to keep it the way it is now and tweak a few things if neccessary. I agree with Siri on the Cat Lovers point. The Boyfriendless/Girlfriendless was able to stay because it stayed on topic. I don't see why the Cat Lovers had to move. It stayed on topic and was just as productive.AliasALIAS said:But some cliques would be able to exist in the ML if they didn't get random, i.e. the Boyfriendless/Girlfriendless... because people told stories about their dateless lives and gave advice, etc. And I don't mean to pinpoint anyone, but the reason why TC is random is because it is hardly about tomboys.
but see thats what im saying. i could have called it "cats" and ppl would have posted teh exact same things. we want to talk about cats, im not quite sure how that is a clique.Tommy said:Remember though, the Random is also a place where cliques are to go to. But that's the consequence of it being a random thread. There are certain times when some meaningful things come up but there's nothing we can do about that. The people posting in that thread chose for it to be random and when something meaningful comes then it just doesn't count.SiriCerasi said:but see thats what im saying. i could have called it "cats" and ppl would have posted teh exact same things. we want to talk about cats, im not quite sure how that is a clique.Tommy said:Remember though, the Random is also a place where cliques are to go to. another example. we are talking about this issue in the dr pie thread right now as well. my posts there are jsut as meaningful as they are here, yet here they count and there they dont. this just doesnt make sense to me.
But shouldn't the college clique be the same thing... talk about college? Why was it started in Random?SiriCerasi said:but see thats what im saying. i could have called it "cats" and ppl would have posted teh exact same things. we want to talk about cats, im not quite sure how that is a clique.Tommy said:Remember though, the Random is also a place where cliques are to go to. im not saying that was teh only example, that was just one ^_^Charlie said:But shouldn't the college clique be the same thing... talk about college? What's wrong with merging the forums and making posts count, but only having ONE topic that is heavily watched and moderated?
We're planning un upgrading to Invision 1.2 soon (it's currenty in testing [beta] phases), and it includes the ability to warn members. Mods/admins would warn members once per double post, and if it gets to 100% (10 warns) they would be put on probation.
Oh man.... this is pretty complicated!!!!!!SiriCerasi said:im not saying that was teh only example, that was just one ^_^Charlie said:But shouldn't the college clique be the same thing... talk about college? so... merge all of the random forums? how about just have one "talking thread" and then all of the others be specific, such as cats or colleges?
but that's what I was saying. aliasALIAS said that some cliques would be able to exist in the member lounge if they didn't get random. That means cliques like the college clique or cat lovers clique shouldn't be in random.Tommy said:But that's the consequence of it being a random thread. You mean random threads? That was an idea. To merge all random threads into one random thread, or as you put it, the talking thread. Other specific topics would be allowed, as long as they stayed on topic.SiriCerasi said:so... merge all of the random forums? how about just have one "talking thread" and then all of the others be specific, such as cats or colleges?
The Random forum and Member Lounge would be merged. All threads from Random would be closed. You would be free to restart them, but there would be no cliques - instead of "college clique" it would just be called "college" and would JUST talk about college. Then a new "The Random Thread" would be started for all random conversation.so... merge all of the random forums? how about just have one "talking thread" and then all of the others be specific, such as cats or colleges?
ooo ok i get it now! sry im slow... but we would be able to restart them?Charlie said:The Random forum and Member Lounge would be merged. All threads from Random would be closed. yeah but that will never happen. People almost never stay on topic, and you can't force them too. Eventually somebody would go offtopic.AliasALIAS said:You mean random threads? That was an idea. I'm not sure if they'd have their own archive forum, but yes, they will still exist. They won't be deleted.SiriCerasi said:hmm... would teh old ones be archived or something? because i like looking back on the convos... maybe thats just me...
Ohh... that's a good idea When would this take place? Very soon?Charlie said:The Random forum and Member Lounge would be merged. All threads from Random would be closed. They wouldn't be "archived" but they would be closed and kept in the member's lounge.SiriCerasi said:ooo ok i get it now! sry im slow... but we would be able to restart them?Charlie said:The Random forum and Member Lounge would be merged.
