Season 2 Il Dire: The Telling

Il Dire is a combination of 47 artifacts, including the heart.

The prophecy says:

"This woman here depicted will possess unseen marks. Signs that she will be the one to bring forth my works. Bind them with fury, a burning anger unless prevented at vulgar cost this woman will render the greatest power unto utter desolation. This woman, without pretense, will have had her effect, never having seen the beauty of my sky behind Mt. Sebacio. Perhaps a single glance would have quelled her fire."

So, why would Sloane believe he is the chosen one if Rambaldi is talking about this woman ... and this woman, being Sydney ... as we now know ...

it would be excluding the heart ... remember CIA had 24 and Sloane had 23 ... but then he still needed "the heart" ... so, that would make it 48 artifacts ...

I just copied this from another thread ... didn't want to sit and write it all over again ...

ok, so the codes that Sark wanted Irina to get from Sydney were for what exactly.  I was confused about this way back on sunday while watching the ep.  Were they for the warehouse that had the Rambaldi artifacts in it?

yes, i think so.

but it turned out that irina didn't even try to get them from sydney. she just gave her the info on will and never really demanded anything from her afterwards. ....right? er... i actually haven't seen the episode again; i've only watched it once. so.... my memory's a bit foggy.

Irina did request Syd's aid in helping her while in Marseille ... she told her to help her, and that she would give her the info on the DNA code to safe Will ...

what contradicts this?
well ... back in LA ... Syd is sitting at her desk and talking to Vaughn, and she says that she should have listened to her mother and hear her proposal ... to know what she wanted in return. Turns out, Irina sent the intel to CIA and Will was cleared ... never we saw Syd help her or anything ...

More contradictions:
on the ice-rink ... Irina tells Syd that one month after she was extracted from the CIA .. Sloane had raid the NSA facility in Nevada, so he now had all 47 Rambaldi artifacts with him ... and that she needed Syd's help to recover those artifacts ... Syd tells her that she never heard about the raid ... and how come that CIA didn't know about it either ... She tells Syd where Sloane's warehouse is and the rest is history ...

Point:
Irina told Syd on phone, that she didn't know how Sloane knew that she would double cross him ... and she said she didn't know where Sloane was but Sark knew ... (weren't they all working together) ... she sent her to Sweden and Sark is captured .... and Syd stells Vaughn "I don't get it ..."
Vaughn asks "what? ... and she says she doesn't get her mother ... with all the things she has done, I wouldn't get her either ...

On the roof-top, Irina tells Syd ... that Sloane believes that he has been chosen to realize the work of Rambaldi ... but then adds, that "you have been chosen too ... only you can stop him"

Okay, so now, back to the prophecy:
"This woman here depicted will possess unseen marks. Signs that she will be the one to bring forth my works. Bind them with fury, a burning anger unless prevented at vulgar cost this woman will render the greatest power unto utter desolation. This woman, without pretense, will have had her effect, never having seen the beauty of my sky behind Mt. Sebacio. Perhaps a single glance would have quelled her fire."

Thats what we know of the prophecy ... but if Sloane knows that, why would he believe he is the one to realize Rambaldi's work, if Rambaldi says "this woman" ... and knowing what we now know, this woman is Sydney ... and he knew this all along ...

What do you think now? Are we actually seeing what has happened, or are we in for the shock of our lives when Season 3 begins ...

Sydney didn't hear her out, so Irina told her the favor at the ice-skating rink. The favor Irina wanted in return was for Sydney and the CIA to recover Rambaldi's artifacts in Zurich. The CIA did listen to it, but it turns out that Sloane had the artifacts removed.

The NSA raid was kept a secret from the CIA. This is another example of lack of communication or even rivalry between government agencies. That explains Kendall's frustration with Brandon.

As for the 47/48 artifcats, I'm not sure, but I'm thinking only one thing: The De Regno heart was probably part of the CIA's 24, but when Sloane had a raid on the NSA, they had only 23 at the time, because I remember Vaughn or Kendall saying that Sloane had everything except the heart. And Sloane told Jack that it was 47 pieces.

I'm not so sure though... I see what you mean. I'm still trying to find another way around it, but maybe it was a blooper.

Added from vh's Spy Family column:
But she also lies. She claims that Sloane has all of the pieces needed for the device: "Sloane had 23 Rambaldi artifacts. The CIA had 24. In order to assemble the device, they need to all be brought together. Those are the pieces in Sloane's warehouse." But the NSA only had 23 pieces. Sloane is missing the Di Regno heart, as he confirms to Jack: "I've acquired them all, including the Di Regno heart."

aliasAlias--- you're very interested in Il Dire right?? ^_^
I find it so confusing though!! Why does Sloane want this?? What is the ultimate GOAL of all these artifacts??!

My main theory about Il Dire is that it must be some sort of revelation. Sloane believes that he's been chosen to realize the word of Rambaldi. Maybe The Telling gives him this word. But because Il Dire contains other artifacts, including the De Regno heart, this leads me to believe that Il Dire may have some secrets to life. Possibly immortality or resurrection.

HMM.... getting a little sci-fi here. On one of ABC.com's polls it asked what is sloane up to and one of them WAS immortality and another was supernatural powers. Very interesting... thanks for answering.

Right. My sense is that it is 47 pieces, including the heart. Irina was lying when she said that Sloane had everything he needed, because he needed the heart (he says, "including the Di Regno heart"). Irina lies so that the theft is exposed and the CIA will force the NSA to move the heart from its location with newly strengthened security to another location. This makes it vulnerable to attack en route. Why should we base our "facts" on what Irina tells us? How frequently does she tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
;)

not very often, but you just never know where the lie ends and the truth begins...

so, on Sydney being the woman in the Prophecy, it states on page forty-seven that a glance of "the beauty of my sky behind Mt. Subasio" might have "quelled her fire" as he put it. And Sydney did see that, did she not? I think it was episode 18, she climbed Mount Subasio, and disproved the belief that she was the incarnation of the Prophecy, forcing the CIA to remove her from their custody. So am I just really screwed up, or does this whole Mt Subasio thing not factor in?

that's what's so confusing about sydney now being the woman in the prophecy. she did literally see the sky behind mt. sebacio (since she was on top of the mountain, i assume she saw the sky. that would just be retarded if she didn't see the sky behind mt. sebacio). but then again, the prophecy was written, "perhaps a glance of the blah blah blah," with the key word being perhaps. so... i guess that left room open for sydney to still be the woman in the prophecy even though she's been to mt. sebacio.

and then there are other theories going around that perhaps "the sky behing mt. sebacio" is some sort of painting. but i don't fully understand that, so... i'm not sure about that one.

This might sound insane but, it says that this women will "bind them with furry" could this not be Irina because although she has not physically put forth Rambaldi's works. but she is the main person that is finding a way to bind all the pieces together using other people.

maybe so...she might have just been protecting her from something.....or maybe irina is just greedy! but i don't really think that
